- Previously the best handling Ebike out there, do the changes made by Santa Cruz keep it that way?
Is a bigger battery and suspension worth it? 750wh is a lot but is it needed?

Hi Chris, great review. I live in Santa Cruz and grew up racing MTB's in the 80's and 90's, watched the whole suspension evolution and quit racing DH when 8" of travel front and rear was the norm in 2001. I have been looking from the sidelines at EMTB's for the last 3 years to see what happens. Started riding everything I could here as all the shops have demo's, I was really liking the Santa Cruz Bullit for the trails I ride and then the Heckler came out. Tried both models and the MX is so nimble and flickable, I bought one the following week. Had it for a month and ridden about 300 miles and absolutely love it. I bought the MX S model, the 36 fork will get a coil kit installed and putting a Fox DHX2 coil in the rear, the stock 40mm stem was too short for technical climbs and installed the new SRAM 220 HS2 rotors. The battery in this bike lets me do three different loops in one day that would normally be a single day for each.
So awesome to hear! I've rode with the Canadian Rep on his Bullit and it flys. Sounds like the best thing for you!
they should install two batteries in that tube. each could have 350wh or one couldn have 450wh and one 300wh... so you can chose if you wanne take just one for your quick ride or two for your longer weekend trip... that would add or remove about 6 pounds to your setup.
That is a great idea, you don't always need that extra range or weight
Very good presentation. I would like to buy a heckler, but unsure if i take a MX or a 29er and not sure s-kit or XT.
Thanks, i really enjoyed the MX style, just felt amazing in the control, I always like Sram personally
I rode both and depending on what you have owned previously and the terrain/trails you are going to be riding would be helpful. There is not a huge difference in overall ride characteristics but the MX version is more playful in the tight and twisty stuff. I also like SRAM Eagle components, first bike I have owned with their brakes and will at some point put Hope Disc but the R or S if you can afford it are worth the extra coin in my opinion.
Great review. Last year’s Heckler wasn’t a full 29er (27.5” or mixed), and this year’s comes with an Assegai on the front.
Right I couldn't remember! Barely out a year before it was replaced!
One thing i notice is the long bracket on the rear shock. Just seems like it could allow play.
They never used Fox 34 in their Heckler..
My bad
Love it 😍
$10k bike. $1.99 pedals
Lol didn't even come with pedals, these are at least $65 haha
