  • Costing more than a billion US dollars, the Singapore Sports Hub project includes a gigantic array of facilities. The jewel-in-the-crown is a cutting edge 55,000-seat national stadium with a unique, opening domed roof. Over 2 years we follow the construction team as they face the tightest of deadlines, unexpected obstacles, and high risk construction procedures. It’s all in the story of Singapore’s Field of Dreams…

      I have mixed feelings about Singapore - there are many great things about Singapore - so clean, definitely impressive - but it's a dictatorship, and for the many immigrant workers and minorities who live there, it often isn't a very pleasant experience.

    To give a bit of background, this was the first megastructure that was built on public/private partnership and co funding. The private side dictated the rental fees etc and it simply became too expensive to host any event. Heck, even the SG govt found it expensive to host the national day parade which its predecessor hosted without a hitch. A stadium should evoke emotions and this doesn't do that.

    • @shohunsuresh6651
      @shohunsuresh6651 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Facts bro, the stadium isnt even used at all unless theres a concert or some random exhibition match

    • @AimlessSky
      @AimlessSky 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost is definitely a factor. On average, the recent editions of the NDP (before covid) is approx. $20mil at the floating platform, compared to almost $40mil at the stadium (And there's a tighter and shorter rehearsal period for NDP at the stadium). TBH, it makes more sense to have the NDP at the floating platform/NS square rather than the stadium. You get a much wider audience penetration; 30k seating capacity at the future NS square plus additional 100k littered around marina bay area. Compare that to the 50k to 55k capacity at the stadium.

    Wish the pitch would mechanically drop at least 10 feet for football matches. The first rows are supposed to be the most sought after but not with this stadium as the viewing angle is horrible. Bad for TV and for the world to witness a stadium that cannot even fill up the first 5 rows.
