Thanks for the great tips. Me too audio books don't work for me when I am in a reading slump, but reading children books/fantasy manga/T Kingfisher's books actually got me out of it. Nowadays these books will be my in-between reads. It's like taking a little break, without me needing to think too much while reading. Some of the children books that get me through will be Kiki's delivery service, wild robot, heartwood hotel, little princess, etc.
I LOVE rereading books when I'm in a slump! It helps me remember why I love reading. Absolutely LOVED Just for the Summer, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and The Martian, and I've got Remarkably Bright Creatures on the TBR!
I have read another book that has a similar magic system to The Book of Doors! Ink Blood Sister Scribe has a magic system where spells are written as books. The individuals in the story can either write books (i.e. make spells) or read the books (i.e. perform magic). It was super interesting and I would definitely recommend!!
My best trick for getting out of a reading slump is an extremely short read!! Either a super good, short classic that'll ignite my love for literature, or else a super casual manga that I can go through quick and engage with online. My fave short classic is Dazai Osamu's 'No Longer Human'! A stunning read, easy to comprehend yet really well-written. Also outside of most people's average genres!!
Id recommend dungeon crawler Carl. I haven’t even read it yet but it’s just dumb fun. My wife is reading it and loving every second. Just a nice funny turn off your brain kind of book. It’s good to read between big series too!
Ugh I have been sick this year and just do not feel like reading 🤦♀️ I’m hoping I will feel like it soon. I have read half of the books I usually read this year.
Great tips and recs (especially Remarkably Bright Creatures and Fourth Wing)! My top tip and what’s most helpful for me is definitely audiobooks, but I know it’s not for everyone. Buddy reads/book clubs are also very motivating and fun! Some books that have gotten me out of reading slumps include Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, None of This is True, Funny Story, What the River Knows, Legendborn, Hidden Pictures, and The Housemaid!

Love that! I've definitely resisted some books from my childhood during a reading slump and that's helped me as well.
I recently read Heartwood Hotel - so wholesome and cozy!

OOh we have very similar tastes it seems. :)
September was the worst reading month I’ve had all year only managed 1 book. Trying to climb out the slump 😊
I had a really tough September too to be honest.

Yep short reads for the win! Great recommendation. :)

Love that kind of book! Will definitely look into it, thanks!
HARD agree about Project Hail Mary being read second. I think about PHM all the time, but Martian fell flat being read second ❤
Ah yeah! That's a bummer cause I loved it so much. But totally see how that would be the case.

Yeah not the best feeling!

I was really close to including Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow on this list as well! Those are some great recs.
