wuthering heightsss omg i love hearing about your vocal training for this project. obviously i'm biased toward verbose writing but i feel like crypts is FOR MEEEE and i NEED ITTT. thank you for continuing to speak out and against gen AI in the writing community
Just discovered your account thanks to this video, I adore your video style. You're very inspiring when it comes to writing, makes me want to pick up my own projects again ! tsym, you're amazing.
Didnt realize i was unconsciously doing the vocal emulation thing. My nanowrimo project takes a lot of reference from soc and brandon sanderson. I really love soc's epic prose and flashbacks, and a love the epic dialogue in brandon sanderson. Doing my best 😢
😂 people adore it so much but it does have a creepy feeling. In middle school we had used artworks by him as writing prompts. I wrote a darker storythan other people@@lynndjung
those firefly earrings are so cute! i like what you were saying about how each of the books you've finished have taught you something different. it reminded me of how, when i was younger, i used to come up with writing projects that would require me to work on a specific aspect of writing that i wanted more practice on as a night owl, i'd love to see you try a nighttime routine
I have a similar experience, being 2nd generation American. I'm connected with my japanese heritage and culture, but I didn't grow up there. I struggle with knowing whether or not I'm the person to write certain stories. So, I've also shifted to sticking with stories more in line with my own experiences as a mixed, 2nd gen American with Japanese heritage.
It's such a nuanced subject-I'm glad that I'm not alone in thinking about these things! Our own unique experiences are just as valid and worth writing stories about
@lynndjung Absolutely! I spent so much of my younger life not feeling like I was enough of one or the other, only to realize in recent years that this seemingly in between place is also meaningful as part of identity. And our stories matter. In fact, in some ways, I feel we are a seriously underrepresented community in media, considering how many of us there are. I love that you're sharing some of your experience through your work.
That Pinterest session was such a mood. Haha It's really such a useful way to visualize things, especially as Google gets less and less usable with time. I don't have aphantasia, but I never know what my characters look like (like, I have a general idea, but aside from that...especially with faces, proper images do not exist within my brain), so Pinterest helps fill in the gaps sometimes. (Also, the nighttime routine video sounds very interesting to me. As someone who is also usually more of a morning-focused person, but who can get "zoomies" at night, I'm interested in taking notes on how I can capitalize on those random bursts.)
Haha it's kind of reassuring to hear that it's not an issue specific to aphantasia - there are so many little details in people's faces + unique traits that I love to describe, so I get what you mean by filling in the gaps! Also, I'll add the nighttime writing routine video to my list :)
almost a whole 40 minute vlog from Lynn?? we're being spoiled🤩 gothic classics are so good, I finished reading wuthering heights and want to binge watch all of the movies for atmosphere/setting inspo-- vocal training honestly sounds so fun! and I love the idea of improving something with every book
all of the fall montages are just so wonderful I want to live in them LOL project crypts sounds like so much fun hehe all the gothic vibes and a family that hates each other 10/10 😊
yeyyy!! finally found a new vlogger that can motivate me to write💗💗 please do more a video like this hihi, I'll love to watch all your videos. Stay safe and warm ^^
So much I loved about this vlog!!! Especially loved your reflections on how you want to grow in a different aspect of craft with each project, I will absolutely be carrying that with me ❤
I really enjoyed Juniper and Thorn! I hope you like it! I also heavily rely on reference photos to describe characters too lol. My brain just doesn't come up with an image when I invent characters. 😅
Sorry it took me forever to comment again! I’m definitely not a morning person or writer (also at the mercy of my mom’s or another caregiver’s schedule), so I admire you for even attempting this! I’m definitely more of an afternoon and nighttime writer. It seems like you got a lot of words written, though! Almost 10K is really impressive! I also admire you for writing a secondary world fantasy as I don’t think that is something I could ever write. I’ll read it, though. But it’s so cool that you write it because it seems so complicated. I’m only 4K into my YA gothic horror (about 2 chapters) and haven’t written anything new in months. The last time I wrote something was in August and that was a YA horror short story. The novel is very loosely adapted from my most recent pilot I wrote last year, but not as heavily adapted as my PhD dissertation script/novel was. I just prefer to adapt my own work when I can. Your vlogs are so aesthetically pleasing and wonderful. I’m also hoping to get my first draft of this novel done by January if I can ever start writing again. Also, thank you for mentioning vocal training as a writer. I just read 2 YA horror books to try and prep my writer brain for that kind of voice and now I’m back to reading YA and Adult fantasy again. Thank you also for talking about culture and diaspora. I probably told you this on Instagram, but I’m part Egyptian and not very connected to that part of my culture/heritage because my Egyptian grandfather died when I was very young. I guess writing Egyptian characters now is my way to honor that, but I don’t always feel Egyptian “enough.” 🙃 Anyway, excited for your upcoming videos/vlogs! 😍
Absolutely loved this vlog! Seeing some of your thiught processes as you're drafting was so cool! Thank you for talking about your thoughts on heritage and culture as a disapora- it's something I'm wrestling with all the time as a disapora myself so it's always nice to see other writers thinking about it!!! Also dying at the one ring pumpkin 🤣🤣
thank you so much for watching!! and yes it's been an ongoing theme of my life especially these past few years as an artist-and i think as i grow and change as a person, my answers as to what i feel comfortable or what i even want to write about (re: heritage culture) will change! which is so interesting to me haha
If you have one and I've missed it, or if you don't, can you please make a video more about the whole vocal training thing? I've seen Rebecca reference it in her newsletter, so you're right there, but I feel like I struggle a lot with voice, so I'd love some more pointed discussion and advice for how to try and find that, since everyone is different.
I have an idea but the protagonist is male. I have been thinking of turning the character into a female lead but I am having a hard time making it work. Do women read fantasy romance books with an adult male lead? I haven’t read fantasy romance but curious about it since it’s more popular than any genre. Any realistic tips would be appreciated?
Hi,I'm still a newbie writer👋🏼Can anybody in the comments tell me what the format is for manuscripts?I'm using Google docs atm but I need to know what the line spacing is,margins, indents, etc..

Ahh, thank you so much!! This means a lot to hear, and I seriously hope you pick up your projects again (when you're ready!)

It's such an interesting phenomenon imo! Those sound like two great voices to draw inspiration from :)
"Alright we'll see how it goes."
Cuts to Lynn poking out the design edges 😂
Omg I can't escape that painting 7:40
LOL tell me why it ended up being a group project when it was his idea!! (also that painting kind of freaks me out, i've yet to remove it though)

Stories and story ideas don't have a copyright. You're a writer, write whatever you want and don't overthink it
i'm trying to sit down and write as a daily commitment, too. and oooh i love classic gothic lit!

ahh thank you so much, Brielle!! Definitely one of the most important things i've learned about writing so far

Yes, absolutely! I'll have to take some time and organize my thoughts on it, but i'm adding this to the list
I feel like there’s been a real rise of Asian fantasy! Good luck on your current wip 😊
thank you!!
