Next year it will be 50years of Ian Paice druming in Deep Purple. An amazing man and a rock solid drummer.

Great for Rick Wakeman mentioning "Emeretta". It is indeed just one of the wonderful showcases for Ian Paice

I remember watching it first time round! What a drummer - what a keyboard player. Great memories.

These interviews from the past have a much more intimate and personal atmosphere. Looks just like to people talking in a bar having a very meaningful conversation.

Wow. The subtitles at the bottom of the video are just as bad as the auto-generated TH-cam ones. Cool.

A super group with John Paul Jones, and a Singer to be named later as well guitars cause there's so many of that time that could do the job justice.

Ian Paice is one of those drummer who actuallys hits the snare at the right time. I hear so many drummers who don't have that basic ability.

Briefly met Ian Paice at a drum-clinic, and he's a real gentleman. I asked if Emmaretta was his drum-solo number in Mk.1, as The Mule, You Fool No One, etc., became. He thought it had been. Shame there's no recording of that.

Can still remember as a kid receiving the 7 inch Emmaretta which I ordered in 1972. It was great at that time to discover the 3 albums they produced before their monumental ... “In Rock”. In some ways nothing like their later output (though full of invention) except for their very first ... Shades of Deep Purple (1968) which has great immediacy and impact ... I think because they only had 2 or 3 days studio time to do it.
“And the address” was the very first piece they recorded. There is a new version of it on Whoosh! (2020) which is less trippy with some great solos. The original has one of Ritchies best ever studio solos IMO.
An indication of how great Ian is. Saw him do a solo with Paice Ashton Lord. The band had to plead with the crowd to stop cheering after his solo, so that they could play the next song. Everyone was on their feet for a good 3 or 4 minutes 😀

Might be the worst subtitles I've ever come across, and that's really saying something! Nice interview though, Rick always brings up Emmaretta. Paicey didn't seem too fond of it. :)

Rick loves the Deep Purple album that it's on. Emmaretta was Rod Evan's girlfriend at the time and she was a political activist. Since I never seen Ian Paice be political, that may not be his taste.

Love Paicey, but he didn't mention that he (and Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray) had in fact been fired from Whitesnake after the recording of 'Saints & sinners' by Coverdale and his manager. It's explained in detail in Marsden's autobiography. Of course it is understandable that he didn't want to say that in public...

The chorus bars shrink with beat countdown: 8,7,6,5,4,3,2 and then expand 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 near the end. That's prog for ya
