Someone on another video told me that Purple's music was watered down Led Zep riffs, and they sounded like King Crimson and Led Zep. Not sure if he was taking his meds or not. 😕
Adam Curry doesn't have a clue. He didn't listen to Deep Purple and knew absolutely nothing about the band or their music. The WRONG guy to do this interview, indicative of the level of respect MTV had for Deep Purple.
Adam Curry's biggest achievement in life is having been married to Patricia Paay. Pity Blackmore wasn't there, he would have given the most nonsensical answers he could think of.
Красавцы, великолепные музыканты, без пафоса и выпендрежа. Жаль, Лорд покинул нас физически, но всё равно среди нас живёт, пока жив хоть один его почитатель!
Excellent points here, particularly re. Bon Jovi. I think BJ were fairly influenced by DP, especially David Bryan/Rashbaum. When I first heard them, I thought some of Purple and UFO had gone into American hard rock. The blend of heavy guitar and classy keyboards - you can't beat that. Lizzy seemed the only HR band that didn't need keyboards, but even they got a keysman in from 1980.
Yeah, it's not in the same league as their all-time-classic "Made in Japan", and Purple all said as much. Blackmore made a huge mistake in switching to a different type of guitar, and Gillan blew out the highest range of his vocal chords on Black Sabbath's "Born Again" tour. The surgeon told him to rest his vocal chords, but Gillan screamed his head off, instead. That's why you hear almost no screaming at all on the "Perfect Strangers" album, other than a few seconds on "Not Responsible." "Nobody's Perfect" was a major letdown and reflected Ian Gillan's alcoholism - as Lord said, Gillan couldn't remember the words on half of the 17 concerts they recorded. That's why the disc was/is garbage. More than 30 years later, Gillan was still singing and sounding good on albums and terrible in concert. Sad, because he was one of the great live singers of all time in the 1970s.
@@AlbertEinsteinSpock To be fair, after Child In Time on In rock, there wasn't an awful lot of screaming on the studio albums. Gillan did scream a bit Live, as can be heard On Made In Japan...Strange Kind Of Woman.
A couple of the songs were edited together, the first half from one date and the second half from another. Ritchie broke his hand during the show in Phoenix, which is why there's an x-ray of a hand on the record sleeve; not sure if it's included in the CD booklet. The Japanese version of the album is a double-CD and has one or two extra tracks, making up what would have been their set-list at the time (more or less).
Gary Unsworth - Yeah, it’s pretty awful. They simply weren’t at their best. It’s widely known that Gillan was sloppy at the time but Blackmore’s playing (live, anyway) was pretty atrocious in the 80s DP.
Concordo, há muitas bandas ótimas ms em meu coração DP e LZ estarão sempre em primeiro lugar 😊 (acho que é hereditário sabe, meus pais eram e ainda são fãs deles)
They were doing it only for the money at this stage ... they’ve admitted recently. However they regained their dignity when Steve Morse joined on guitar and they made Purpendicular, one of the best rock albums you are likely to hear .... by anyone. They now have no 1 albums 50 years into their career . Infinite was no 1 in Germany and Austria. New album due in a couple of months ... 2020... called whoosh!
I thought they were going to tell the story behind the bet lol. Heard the background story of that several times. Was new fact to me that it was in fact arson.
@@AlbertEinsteinSpock Nah I was joking, I'm sure it was just coincidence. David Coverdale wrote the lyrics to Burn and I doubt that he was thinking of SOTW when he wrote the song.

The WORST album ever released by the Great British Dragon, that was, Deep Purple. If you don’t believe me, just look at how awkwardly, Jon Lord is answering these questions. I know and he knows….this was shite 👌
Why oh why did they put out that album. The only tracks they played without being sloppy were Bad attitude and the studio jam Hush. I am a huge fan but that album should not exist.
Never understood why they released that version of hush which was very sloppy. They even spent money for a video which could have went towards a better song.
For most fans this version (with Gillan) has become the definitive version of Hush, it’s harder, wilder and alot more brash than the tame 60’s original.
What a nice, polite young lady asking the questions.
Nobody looks and sound like them, they were the perfect Rock Band.

The Interviewer who is 15 years younger than Glover and Lord today looks more dated than the Purple guys
