    It's ben 51 years since I first put on headphones and listened to Deep Purple in Rock. And, still, never once in all those years have I ever been disappointed by Ian Paice. So talented .

    Bravissimo Ian Paice ! non ostante la non più giovanissima età , il suo solo è ottimo in fluidità e il suo "grip" proverbiale ancora eccezionale : davvero in gran forma ! un grande professionista , sempre generoso nelle sue performance , anche se quà si spazientisce , colpa un monitor mal funzionante : ma lui è un grande signore , non lo deve dimostrare adesso ; la carriera parla per lui :) bravo Ian !

    This is the best I've seen him solo in recent years, getting angry made him play like he did in his 70's hay day, that buzzing on the PA is fucking diobolical I don't blame him for being angry

    He's mad because he's a professional and doesn't want his fans listening to feedback. Plain and simple... a lousy job by the sound man... and another great job on the drums Ian!

    • @onemoremisfit
      @onemoremisfit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It probably wasn't the sound man's fault, small hard rooms are impossible. When you put a lot of mics and speakers close together in a tight space with a lot of volume you get feedback.

      @@onemoremisfit Sure, a challenge but not impossible. I did sound for my old band (and I play drums). In my experience, it's best to mute all unused mikes during any solo or this can happen.

    • @onemoremisfit
      @onemoremisfit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@magster65 I too was a drummer doing sound, I spent 5 figures on gear, bought the lights too, because otherwise there'd be none. Had to be at the venue 4 hours early to rig it all up, ALONE, then I'd be there 2 hours after the gig taking it all down ALONE. Bar mgrs would ask where'd the rest of the band go, I'd have to explain that they wanted nothing to do with my gear so it was all my problem to handle. There was nobody to ride faders during performance, so I just had to set things for least chance of runaway feedback and keep fingers crossed. Floor wedges NEVER could go loud enough to cut thru stage volume without feedback and they would loop the stage volume back in your face anyway due to all mics leaking everything in the cramped conditions. I rigged IEM for myself, and the rest of the band resented me. The whole thing was such a miserable experience that I had to pack up and quit playing out altogether. Today I won't even consider playing in ANY band situation if my ears can't get a mix, and I am sitting inside of my instrument, something guitar players don't seem to comprehend. I don't care if it's a gig, a rehearsal, a tryout or just an informal jam at a party, if there's no monitoring then you guitar players have to put your speakers where I say, or I can just pack up and go home. If I can't hear anything but myself then I'm better off practicing alone anyway.

      @drumtracksdirect 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had very similar to this happen while soloing - sidestage, in the dark the singer managed to kick the jack lead out of the splitter box for our intro tape/samples rig..."BARRRRRMMMM!!" it spewed through the monitors and PA. I use in-ears, but luckily I don't have the intro tape/samples in my ears, so was luckily shielded from it, although it took for what seemed like an eternity for the soundman to realise where the hum was coming from. Other times there's been horrendous low end feedback (as the soundman's got it into his head that he needs to fuck about with the drum mix) and on one occasion a Marshall chose my solo as the time to shit the bed and let out a God awful "GRRRRRRRRRRM" death howl.
      In this instance, it's not as if Paicey is genuinely mad, it's just nigh-on impossible to get a simple message across to a soundman who you don't know and you have to be as animated as possible to wake him up. Like in the studio, talking down your snare mic is the best way of being able to speak into the PA and get your message across.
      The ultimate worst when drum soloing is when the guitarists/bassist are backstage, but they forget they're on wireless and start widdling.

      @Dibbdroid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow, possibly the dumbest comment of the last two centuries. You don't get invited to perform at Buddy Rich events by being weak. Undoubtedly one of the greatest rock drummers ever, from the old school where influence came from further afield and subtlety was hand in hand with bludgeoning. Have a listen to Scandinavian Nights, Made in Japan and Live in London and when you're done cowering on the floor have a chat with Chad Smith

    Floor monitors just don't work well in small cramped rooms with hard reflective acoustics because they won't go loud enough without feeding back, that's why they become "fucking useless", and the mix that works for a vocalist won't work for a drummer, but you can't get separate mixes without a separate power amp for each mix. Then they just throw all the mic leakage back in the band's face, creating more unwanted stage volume and putting more total sonic energy into a small room that is already too loud. Floor monitors only work well in large spaces where you can get some distance between mics, speakers, and reflective surfaces, and even then they can have nulls and dead zones. That's why in-ear monitoring is a thing, because it solves problems. Once you get it dialed in it works consistently the same in every shitty room because it takes the room out of it. But it requires the band to proactively bring its own monitoring gear and take control of its own front end, and that's why every band mate of mine has been against it, they don't have to play while sitting inside of their instruments, and they hate drummers who don't serve their convenience. Ian Paice is rock royalty, he can stop in mid performance and have a fit and people still love him, as for me I was hated and had to pack up and go away, and it was all due to live sound and monitoring issues.

    Ian's one the great drummers who never got the credit due him[what the fuck Deep Purple still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame], but his flipping out during his solo was a bit petulant. I had my left eardrum blown out during a gig [monitor squelch] but kept on playing. Now that I can only hear 50% of the music onstage, I think of it as an improvement in my ability to concentrate

He is rarely mentioned, which is such a joke how pathetic people are and not realize how great this drummer is and was, and is on par with the best of them as good as John Bonham, in my opinion better but I’m a fan.
