  • Captain Dave Hansen here with an original video I did on the Rubber band technique when targeting bluefin tuna for deeper depths. This technique is great because it does not weaken the line when adding a weight to the line VS tying a weight directly to the line. This is a great way to target deeper depth tuna in the 60 to even 100 + ft range. try this technique out ! the bluefin tuna , yellowfin, and yellowtail will bite! This is a great live bait rig !
Bluefin fishing is the pinnacle of Southern California sportfishing (and arguably the world) for its pure brute strength and incredibly tasty table fare.

I have a theory that the weight doesn't get shaken off but that it actually gets bit by other tunas that get excited by the fast shaking of that shiny sinker.

Many anglers paint the sinker black for exactly this reason.

I use rubber bands as well. I don't put it on the knot because the knot is usually the weakest point of the line. I put it on the fluoro....as it is more abrasion resistant than braid. Tight lines everyone!

We landed 7 of those bluefins on a 1.75 day trip last week , mostly on this sinker rig.

I am a kayak fisherman out of Dana Point. I love your videos and am very interested in subscribing to your website, especially concerning fishing spots in my area. However, I was wondering how much help it would be since I cannot go more than around a mile and a half offshore. Would it still be worthwhile for me?

What size of flourocarbon we used for sinker rig?

I saw one of your previous videos where you used a torpedo sinker but tied it inline between your braid and floro, when do you prefer that over the rubber band? I’ve just used the rubber band technique and have had luck with that but I’m curious to try it inline.
