Such an amazing day. The drill definitely looks dalton, but when worked that far down it is kinda hard to really tell. The one before the Gary, i would say it almost looks pelican lake. Could be a Kings as well, as they seem pretty close.
Yeah, that little one before the Gary still has me pretty stumped so I thank you for offering some possibilities. I think one other person may have also suggested Pelican Lake... hard to remember though. Lots of comments on this video!

@@erongarrett2080 I hope you are able to find a hot spot and pull some smokers soon. I really do. Just keep on exploring and they will come. Good luck out there!
WHAT A VID!! Every point you found was whole too. Im frankly wuite dumbfounded 😂 that lobed point (cocetot river?) has flat notches that would allow for easy crossing of the sinew hafting in a thick band if that makes sense at all. Tht is an extremely cool point style. Awsome dalton drill too! I often wonder how many used up knives are falsely identified as drills but that is clearly a drill. About the Garry drought- maybe the historical layer the Garrys are seated in has been washed out over decades and you are slowly going to get older points? Or perhaps they will go in cycles as the gravel churns older and newer stuff over so some years its older and some years it’s more recent points. Just a thought! Thinking about erosion of layers and the statistics of points is crazy with all the factors involved. Glad you had a good hunt 🫡
Yes, the Cossatot was a bucket-list find for me. I've seen other people in my area find them and I just love their design. They are associated with the Calf Creek type as well, if I'm not mistaking. I often wonder, as well, about the intended use of "drills". Sometimes I even wonder if they liked the natural design outcome of an exhausted knife so much that they would intentionally make them that way in a first stage... probably not but it's fun to consider. Seems like you could use them for so many different purposes, and in that regard, I suspect they did. I think the latter point you made about the Garys is pretty accurate for my area. The Arkansas River acts a lot like a giant blender and those gravel bars are constantly being cut and shuffled in the low lying areas. Even the high areas get blown out sometimes with even a moderate rain. So, I think things are just in a constant state of shuffle. Garys are in abundance here though so it's odd when I hit a Gary dry spell.
Thanks much for all the great comments! It gets me pumped up to do more hunts and more videos when I see someone getting pumped up at my videos, haha! I appreciate you dropping me the good lines!
Maybe this will encourage you: Although, I don't know where you're located, up until about 6 years ago I always assumed that nothing like this was near me. I always just figured you have to go "somewhere else" to find stuff like this. Well, after living in NE Oklahoma since 1996 I finally decided in 2019 that, surely, there MUST be some kind of artifacts around me... right? Well, it turns out there was. I just had to be determined and to do my research and to go exploring as much as possible. Took me months to find my first one but I finally did. Even if there really isn't anything like this near you, I promise you that treasures of some kind absolutely ARE near you. Every place has history. Every place had people and people drop things, lose things, throw things away. Don't be afraid to go looking for treasure even if you don't know what kind you're trying to find. Where in the world 🌎🌍🌏are you hunting all these artifacts, son? ( no specific area, just general ). My 70 yr.old self can’t get out anymore and hunt these beauties. Great finds! 😊
@@wildvideos3328 God is visible in all of creation down to the last molecule. You just have to look. Seek and ye shall find. The Lord Jesus Christ loves you. His gift is free for the taking. If you haven't already accepted it, I pray you will. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@meandmyshadow6269 Existence is more understandable for me than God, God lives in ones imagination, God is such a comforting idea if you believe what you want to believe about him and his plan,to me God is like a ghost that gives you hope if you feel he is on my side and is looking out for what I want. I don't really know but I do know I am a part of this amazing world and I am grateful to existence and all that is.
Crazy how so many perfect points get revealed in one search. It’s as if the river moved sand and gravel around just right where it exposed pieces that haven’t been exposed in 100 years. Nice job. I’ve continued to hunt the Arkansas River but have only managed two points. Need to get myself a yak to broaden my horizons. Curious, would you feel safe taking an inflatable kayak on that river?
I know, right?! Trust me, if you watch enough of my videos, you'll know a day like this is pretty rare for me, haha. The hunts can definitely be tough much of the time. Just keep going and you'll find more! As for the inflatable kayak, it's hard for me to comment on that because I have not used an inflatable before myself. I have heard people talk about them but I haven't heard how well they're made or how tough they are. In general, I find the Arkansas a pretty easy float except in very high winds. I guess, the only thing that might concern me with an inflatable is how durable is the bottom on one of those things? I do run into submerged logs on occasion and I wonder if a sharp branch could poke through one?
Thanks for the feedback! I looked up the Palmer after you mentioned it and, yes, it does seem to share some similarity. A lot of the examples I saw were barbed but then I also saw some that were not. I felt the base of mine and I don't think it's ground unfortunately.
I have a couple in my collection that are not ground at all either, but that are under an inch and a quarter and do not look like they were worked down. I think you have a good one there
To be specific, I don’t have papers on them, but in my area, they are either Kirk or Palmer. In some places in our country, they can actually be arrowheads at that size, real arrowheads, but not where I am in Central North Carolina.
It’s interesting how in the western us the corner notch tradition seemed to be prolific in the woodland period. But in most of nc and neighboring east coast states the corner notches are all archaic or even possibly trans-paleo
Grinning..... You have done real well. Pretty hard to get a point/drill like that to get out your face. Pretty sure you have turned around and inspected it every few minutes/hours since you found it. Questions Questions! That was full use?!?? Except still fully ready for it's last form?!?? I always wonder if these fines/(perfectly useful tools) are basically deposited or disassociated from their owners by flood/tornado and other quick violent events happening over time . They would be subject to many such cycles given the lack of infrastructure control we have today.. Anyways...persistence paid off and all the little hiccups on the way seem much smaller I'm betting 👍
Yeah, I'd hate to ACTUALLY get that drill stuck in my face, lol! You got that right, I can't stop looking at it! It's so cool! I think the drill stage of the tool/point/knife is considered a final stage. There's just not much meat left on it at that point and, I'm guessing would have been used at that point for all jobs that require something narrow and pokey. I always wonder if they would have made good frog gigging/fish spearing tools? The points we come across in our river have certainly been through all manner of weathering events and have been scattered far and wide. And it amazes me just how many still survive mostly or entirely intact. It's a testament to their craftsmanship.
Just a tip. You said your back was hurting. Try bending backwards, not forward. It’s likely hurting from you being forward. The opposite action might help. Sincerely, someone with chronic back pain.
@ absolutely. I know I didn’t explain it well, but basically: hands on your back/hips. Slightly push your hips forward, and leave the top half of your body back like you’re looking at the sky.
I really don't know much about this hobby, but I know it's exciting finding any arrowhead or artifact. Would take a mo and explain why the arrow @7:00 is an amazing find? :-)
Your question just made me realize that I forgot to include some info about WHY I though the point at 7:00 was so cool. I actually meant to freeze the video and drop a narration in there to do just that. Oops! So, a Cossatot River point in some people's books may actually not be that cool. But it was a bucket-lister for me. For a few reasons: I have never found one before (haha), I like the fact that they have a notch in the base most of the time (not a terribly common trait in points), and they are considered to be associated with Calf Creek points which I think are one of the coolest looking points ever made. And Calf Creek points have a special place in my heart because an amazing find was made in my area in 2003 by a lady who found an ancient bison skull with a Calf Creek point embedded in it. It made world-wide news and has been in museums. Try googling "calf creek arrowhead bison skull Tulsa, OK" and I'm sure you'll find articles and pictures. Anyway, sorry for the long response. Short answer is: I just think Cossatots are a cool looking point and have a cool associated history, haha
Interesting! I started wondering about that possibility a while after I found it when I was looking at it because I have found another Graham cave drill in the past. Thanks for the feedback as always, good sir!

@meandmyshadow6269 Existence is more understandable for me than God,
God lives in ones imagination,
God is such a comforting idea if you believe what you want to believe about him and his plan,to me God is like a ghost that gives you hope if you feel he is on my side and is looking out for what I want. I don't really know but I do know I am a part of this amazing world and I am grateful to existence and all that is.

I find hundreds of prehistoric points in Pennsylvania but I don't share the information with others because they start following us around. 🚫🤫🤫
Nice! Thanks for watching!
That small corner notch might be Palmer. Check the base it should be highly ground. Transitional paleo

I will give that a whirl and see if it helps me out! I appreciate you taking the time to try and help me out with that!
@@meandmyshadow6269 Ok I understand now. :-) Thank you and I will check out the bison skull info!
