      The genre really did shift to VR didn't it? Not to say that's a bad thing at all. Having on rail shooters nowadays on other platforms is questionable. The market for that is even lower considering the peripherals you need on a TV. It is cheaper, but most people aren't gonna get a peripheral for one specific genre

    I've been rocking the Time Crisis games literally since the very first game and love them so damn much. The first game being cheesy as hell with the voice acting but fun with all the action scenes. All the way up to the PS3 versions. On rail shooters are a dying genre for console gamers which sucks pretty bad. But if Namco busted out Time Crisis 5 with all the extras like they typically do for a home release and give us a proper Guncon 4 then I'd be all for it just like I have been the past 3 generations.

      I'm with you. I have almost every major light gun game from the 32-bit era and up. I even have Elemental Gearbolt on PSone which is really cool but quite hard. Virtua Cop and House of the Dead was king up until Time Crisis came out for me. After that Time Crisis took the crown and hasn't been dethroned since. Sadly the PS3 and Wii era was the dying days for light gun games. I remember when the Guncon 3 came out I was really excited for a resurgence of rail gun shooters but after the release of TC4 nothing else came ever came out for it except for Razing Storm... Lol.

    They could’ve just let you use the D-pad on the second controller or let you move the Sniper Aiming Reticule by aiming the Guncon at the corners of the screen. That would’ve let Time Crisis 3 be playable on the original Guncon.

    I'm so glad time crisis 2 and 3 was ported to the PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 2 was at the point of technology where it had better visuals than the arcade. Both time crisis 2 and 3 on the PS2 had enhanced visuals and extra game modes not present on the arcade. I highly doubt time crisis 2 would ever fit on the PS1 disc, let alone run at a stable frame rate.

I would have continued but the price to play one game is really expensive. I really wish Sega would have shown the same love for Virtua Cop like Namco does with Time Crisis. Virtua Cop 3 is one of my personal favorites but it seems like it'll never make it to a console.

    Time Crisis feels like a love from a past life. I remember playing the games down the arcade with my little brother, playing the PlayStation 1 games at a friends and eventually grabbing my own copies that quickly became the most played games on the system.
    TC2 was pretty much the reason I picked up the ps2. I remember first seeing the G-Con 2 in a pokey little store 30 miles away during a trip to Norwich... I had to have it.
    I'm pretty sure I own TC3 but for some reason just don't remember it =\
    TC4 was OK... I never got the G-Con with mine... eventually it got patched to work with the move so that was my only way of playing it.
    I would love to get a TC2 arcade setup for my garage which the huge screens... never going to happen... but I can dream.
    Thanks for taking me back to the days when one if my favorite styles of games... was king of the arcade (at least at my locals)

    That was the main problem with TC1, bullets that hit you were unmarked. So it was impossible to dodge. You just had to be fast.
    TC2 Arcade was also MUCH harder than the PS2 version, most notably due to the decrease in graphics (bullets are a bit harder to spot) but also, Wild Dog's bullets didn't give out a pulse when they were about to hit you.
    Also, Alan and Wesley were the best :D

    Man, one tip for you: If you want to play the PS2 lightgun guncom games whit a Guncom 45, then just unlock the region limitation of you PS2 with a modchip (matrix infinity better) and buy the cheap PAL versions. The games included not only Guncom45 and Guncom 2 compatibilty , but also Pal 60hz option, so it will not be slow like many supossed. Also if the game doesnt support pal 60 natively, you can force it properly with the Matrix chip. BTW you will need a CRT TV that supports PAL and NTSC, or maybe a signal convertor, but I bet you already have the solution. This will also help you in ordr to buy an dcollect PAL exclusives and some games that offered better options and prices in the european market. Like Project Zero 3 with progressive option or a much cheaper Haunting Ground copie with the same quality. (It also add some times, more language options for non native english speakers).

Even the FPS mode is not nearly as bad as people say. I think it's just they are so dam good at making arcade shooters that other modes can't live up to it.

    Oh boy. I remember getting a CRT AND a VCR (PS2 hooked up to VCR using composite and CRT hooked up to VCR using coax?) all to get my light gun working. Ironically, I was better with the controller than the light gun, probably due to my hand eye co-ordination. The first time I ever saw/knew about Time Crisis was in Turkey where I saw a single player (PS2 with ingenious system) arcade machine. I sucked at the game, but that was my first taste.

    I loved Time Crisis 2 on the the PS2 and still have the game and GunCon. I have a small portable CRT but it's way too small for shooting games. I do use my PS2 all the time though on my 32" LCD tv & it's good playing some of the old classics like 'Jaws' the game and remember sports title 'Come on Baby'. Yeh me either. as both are rubbish.

    I fell in love with Time Crisis from the first moment I played it in the Arcade. Once I had money as a teenager i started collecting the home console versions and all the gcons to go along with them. The home console versions are great, but nothing beats the feeling of playing the arcade version, getting your best friend and playing the two-player mode and having each others backs. The foot pedal on the arcade version was so intuitive, and I remember that the guns on the Time Crisis 2 cabinets had the pistol slide that would actually pull back with serious force whenever you fired a shot. This is one of my favourite videos from you guys. Well done Coury.

    Great video, Corey.
    I love lightgun shooters, but being a SEGA fanboy, always stuck with SEGA lightgun games. I've only just got into the original Time Crisis and am really enjoying it. Your video helped me to see I need to check out the rest of the series.
    Thanks for recommending the Razing Storm collection. I hate war-based shooters, but the arcade mode in Razing Storm is actually pretty fun despite the godawful, generic dialogue and lack of character. Time Crisis 4 is great fun and Deadstorm Pirates is easily the best game in the collection, with that zaniness that's usually characteristic of SEGA lightgun games.

    What was your exact set-up for getting good quality lightgun gameplay recorded? Did you use one of those rgb scart passthru adaptors that also extracts av composite & s-video (like the one on retrogaminguk site)? this way you record the RGB feed as you do through Framemeister and have the av feed going to the tube tv? Something I been curious on lately for the Sega Saturn Virta Cop games, and something I can test when one of those adaptors comes in the mail. As you'd expect - running the game thru framemeister and hdmi out to a splitter, one cable going to an hdmi to composite box wont work. analog to digital to analog again ;p was worth a shot for less than $10 on that hdmi to av box.

    • @Arkathtoo
      @Arkathtoo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MATTKBAN Just a guess from personal experience but since they have a broadcast grade CRT they likely have an RGB out on the back that can be hooked up to a recording device.

    • @MATTKBAN
      @MATTKBAN 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was another option I later realized ;p Not what was done as I messaged and they shared their set-up. Something I got for myself to get this to work is a component distribution amp. One component in to several out. These exist for all cable types and is pretty convenient. I now have double fat ps2's w/link port, Time Crisis 2 and Sony Wega/Trinitron tvs to have the arcade in my living room haha!

    We had a Time Crisis II Machine in the arcade near me, my old local hangout, but there was only one gun. They took it away, and replaced it with a Raising Storm one, which I never knew had anything to do with Time Crisis until now. They took that away too. Now there's some stupid Emoticon claw machine there.

    There is another great way to get a good foot pedal on the PS1. Just use one of the steering wheels for driving games on the second port. The foot pedals use the same button layout. What about dancing mats? might be also a solution. Great video, makes me wanna play TC again.

  • @Deadite8593
    @Deadite8593 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think I remember the FPS levels in TC4 having an option to put the look controls on the second analog stick, instead of basing it on pointing your gun at the edges of the screen to turn. Once I figured that out they were MUCH more enjoyable....buuuut I wouldn't say I preferred this gameplay style. Overall I love this series, and quite often break out my ps1 or ps2 for some time crisis! (or point blank, vampire night, etc.)

      PS2's _End Game_ lightgun game (speaking for NTSC-U/C) has 16_:_9 aspect ratio support in the game's menu but haven't yet used the lightgun for it on my 4_:_3 CRT set to its widescreen ratio mode. The angle for the field of view _does increase_ , IIRC. 👍 Also, IIRC, none of the beautiful 16_:_9 ratio tube CRT TV's will work with light guns - needs to be of certain models within the 4_:_3 CRT tube hardware (some of the 4_:_3 CRT's are not lightgun-friendly if they have certain specifications or advertised features)

    I've played Time Crisis 2 and 4 in the arcades back in my Teen years up to late Teens every Saturday with my mom before she goes to Bingo and then shopping for food. It was fun for me and got hooked to it along with House of the dead 2, 3, and 4, Time Crisis Blazing Storm, Operation G.H.O.S.T, That one game where you have to shoot Sea Creatures who are trying to kill you(can't remember name), Tekken 5-7(arcade versions except Fated Retribution) as those were the ones released in World of Fun, Timezone(yes, it's an arcade name), and Quantum World. Now I don't see them as much often as those were replaced with claw machines, coin pusher slots, Racing Games, Card Trading games(Oreca Battle as the name I can remember), Ocean King 3 games and the only game still standing in arcades and updated rn is Pump It Up. Now I have to use either emulation or just watch it on youtube (cause these consoles aren't worth buying anymore in today's standards as well as PS5 and Xbox One Series S imo) as they're the only ways of enjoying them. Like Time Crisis 4, which is the only gun game standing in the arcades mentioned above, are starting to show their age as they aren't properly maintained by the arcade Technicians.

    Instead of using the button at the butt of the grip as a pedal, consider this alternative. If you hold the GunCon 2 the same way that most people are taught to properly grip a real life handgun, your supporting hand's thumb naturally rests on one of the side buttons. (Either A or B depending on whether you're right or left handed. Both buttons do the same thing.) Now to pop out of cover, all you have to do is just squeeze the GunCon 2 with your support hand and relax to go back into cover.

    At least throw in a mention about how the Namco arcade gun actually worked similar to a real gun-- the rail that covers the barrel would move back an forth after each shot. In your hard, that shit was amazing an really added to the overall effect. I'd randomly press the trigger during menus jus to see it on action lol.

    Its a shame Namco's Cobra the Arcade never got ported to the PS2 in 2005 when it came out in arcades as its basically anime license Time Crisis. Also shame the series never came to PSVR. I dont expect it to come to PSVR2 either.
    I think I heard people say Oculus Quest 2 can run them but eh.
    Maybe one day Arcade1up will make a Time Crisis collab cabinet.
    Also regarding the Guncon 2, I absolutely detested that bright orange color so I got the Japanese version which is all black; as as well as a mini pistol one also in all black that works just as good.

    Stellar production quality, as usual. Not gonna lie though, I'm disappointed the Move controller wasn't properly tested and explained. Especially now that we have PSVR, the sharpshooter, that aim controller, etc. 🤔 I think another episode exploring those options might be great 👍
