I think I can recognize nearly every video Corey has behind him; Danzig, NIN, Prong, Type O Negative, Dream Theater, Tool, just to name a few.
Also bit of a correction; Headbanger's actually got cancelled in the States in 1995. The UK version did run until '97 however.

You know, in a way we’re kind of unlucky now that we can see all the video of any game we want. This video really reminds me how every time a game commercial came on I dropped everything and intensely stared at the screen. It was like a random Christmas present

Maybe, but now we don't run the risk of getting a bad game. It's pretty rare for me to buy a game I don't like anymore. Really at worst, I get games that I think are fine, but don't hold my interest. Back in the day I remember friends complaining about buying a game they hated. I was lucky as my father was a gamer so he was able to suss out if a game was bad or not by reading magazines and talking to independent store employees.

Very well said; these were among the few commercials we would be excited to see back in the day. Back in the '80s, video game commercials were even less common; the only one that I remember is Dragon Spirit: The New Legend. It strikes me as odd that while back then, we'd use commercial breaks as an excuse to get up and grab a snack, today, people willingly flock to TH-cam or wherever just to watch commercials. Times sure have changed...

I remember those days. 3DO took E3 95 by surprise, announcing the M2 Accelerator, a technical update over the original hardware that would push 1 million polygons per second. Imagine having a console with Dreamcast graphics competing against the original PS and N64 in the same gen. 3DO managed to get many third party games for the console and advertised the then impressive looking Blade Force as an M2 launch title. But... the M2 would never become a reality. I remember buying Gamepro mags, I still have them with me. The last one I got was the Sept 95 issue. After that, they stopped being distributed in my country but I started to buy them imported many years later.

Great job on the video transfers!
I still have around 112 VHS and SVHS tapes that have tons of video game related news stories from 1987 - mid 90's (from CNN, E! News, The Next Step, Computer Chronicles, and more) + many game commercials from that time period, as well as some VHS tapes from the 80's of Japanese TV. I'm sure some of those must have video game commericials.
I need to look into a service that can convert these for me. I've been wanting to preserve and share these tapes before it's too late.

Wow. What a heavy piece of nostalgia this was for me! In 1994, I was 11 years old, and it always threw me for a loop how in your face commercials were back then. Some of these I don't remember, like the Sonic ones (probably because I was a huge Nintendo fanboy back then, and would change the channel anytime Sonic showed up,) but yeah, those ads for those other consoles were ALWAYS trying to piss on their competitors. This was great, I'd love to see you do another one of these! Also, what's up with the HEAVY thematic use of grumpy/assertive old men and black and white commercials? Most of these commercials had some sort of combo with these two things. Weird.

You should check out some of the Sega ads we had in the UK in the 90s. They were odd. All based around this pirate Tv channel. There was also a commercial for Super MArio All-Stars with the legendary Rik Mayall in it. Not quite as in your face nuts as these US adverts though.

I love stuff like this. Its funny how we used to hate commercials but years later we ll go out of our way to watch them. They definitely are the best "time capsules" . MTV used to have such great programming. Animated stuff like Liquid Television - The Head - The Maxx - Beavis and Butthead - Aeon Flux to name a few. Their other shows were awesome too. MTV's The State maybe the best sketch comedy show ever. The obscure Dead At 21 (which I cant find anywhere) was pretty interesting and would love to watch it again as its been about 24 years (I believe it came out in 94)since Ive seen it. The here in mentioned Headbangers Ball and Matt Pinfield's 120 Minutes were great and introduced me and Im sure a whole bunch of people to awesome music. Yes MTV used to play music videos - weird yes I know Music Television was...music television. Great stuff as always guys.

I love gaming!! I just dropped a video on the very first gaming console ever made, so if you're seeing this can you check it out and give me your thoughts?

This was so much fun, it's inspired me to do a retrospective on commercials for Spider-Man video games. Thanks!

I remember watching the 3DO and Jaguar commercials when I was a little kid and being fooled into believing they were the better consoles.

Did you just say Gambit was the most popular X-Men of the 90s? Are you dumb? It was definitely Wolverine? And still to this day remains one of the most popular X-Men of all time your opinion is biased. I didn't even like Wolverine that much but Gambit? I'm pretty sure he wasn't the most popular I mean I didn't like either of them but I like Gambit significantly less than Wolverine saying Gambit was popular is like saying Jubilee was popular. Let's all be honest jubilees Power Sucks I did like Gambit's power but it's nothing compared to an adamantium skeleton.

Since we're talking about Mortal Kombat I wanted to give everyone a tip. Play the PC port. I had the game on SNES, Genesis, 32X, and Game Boy but when I heard the PC version was arcade authentic I knew I needed it. So I got it, plugged in my gamepad, and I played the best home version of MK I've played to this day. It's still very much worth playing today.

I was a poor college student back in '94. I got gifts sometimes so I had a SNES with DK Country, Pitfall, Madden and Uniracers and a Turbografx16 that my brother didn't want. I bought used games from the movie rental store for the Turbo once in a while. I switched to PC games after I got my first computer in 1994 because the graphics were better. I got a Playstation after I graduated and got a job in "96. I have no idea what happened to any of that stuff....but I've replaced all the consoles and games. This comment is for me...not you.

The Sega IR7000 brings back some fond memories. In the UK, it was released as the Casio My Magic diary 7000, which my sister owned, and I always used to pinch from her on car journeys to play its version of tetris! In fact, I'm on ebay now trying to find one :)

Guys i'm looking for a guide like the RGB ones but in Surround sound sistems and decoders aplied to gaming. Since i've seen a lot of dolby surround games (like Dk64 or perfect dark, ps2 titles, xbox, gamecube etc.)
    I love your channel!

New to this channel and I appreciate your thoughts and analysis as opposed to just running the commercials without comment, which is what I was expecting. And this might sound strange, but I'm also thankful you're as old as you are...it lends your commentary significantly more weight as someone who was there at the time. Call it ageism, but I find it difficult to put as much stock in some of these other retro gaming youtubers who were born in the 90s, who weren't around to personally experience (or too young to fully fathom) the gaming climate they are commenting on.
*adding: The Atari Jaguar port of Doom was much better than the 32X version though. ;)

Wow, this video makes me feel my age, I remember the bulk of the commercials shown. 1994 was an odd era of gaming with Sega bringing out 32x and Sega-cd and the games really pushing the snes and genesis to their limits. Good times. SEGA!

Cant wait for the 1995 video for the Mr. Creosote influenced Yoshi's Island commercial. Soo horrifying as a kid and then baffling when my parents finally let me jump from the mostly kid friendly Monty Python and the Holy Grail to the gross Meaning of Life.

"I mean, think about it: When was the last time you saw a video game commercial on television?"
Well, it was for Anthem. And I actually thought it was a movie trailer. Turns out, the game kinda sucks. Oh well...

I could’ve sworn I just heard you call the Sega CD a success... I might’ve heard wrong, but I looked it up, because I wasn’t sure and I was curious and yeah... 2.1 million is five years... So, no, not a success by any means.

In response to your last statement, I'm 31 so this was my childhood. lol And while we couldn't just look stuff up on the internet, we could however, try a game by renting it. In fact, that was how my friends and I played most games because our parents wouldn't buy them for $50 a pop. Or I would get older games used, cheaper. A local game shop opened here and became very popular because of that. Until EB Games and Gamestop came around, they were the place to go for used games.

Indiana Jones, Super ROTJ and Pitfall are all great games. Most negative reception today is younger audiences not being able to handle the difficulty.
Have to say, the SNES versions of MK titles are inferior due to way less buttons and altered music.
