I am so glad when people don't count their sleeping time for these readathons. Sleeping is healthy! I really liked Horrorstör because I like the way Hendrix mixes the mundane with the supernatural/scary. It was my first book by him.
The House at the Bottom of the Lake is so good! I have a rule that I have to like 3 separate works from an author (series count as one) before I consider them a favorite author so I can't say that yet but I have loved everything I've read from Josh Malerman so far.
That's exactly how I felt about Horrorstor too! His writing has improved so much between that book and his other books that it felt a bit lackluster having read his later works first imo.
I also didn’t know how I felt after reading Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke. I wanted to throw up while reading it and I can’t look at raw meat for a while. I’m so glad I hadn’t eaten anything before. I plan on reading Nothing But Blackened Teeth tonight after work and I’m so excited!
Pretty sure that’s the only reaction one could have to the end of Things Have Gotten Worse. You know what’s a bad idea? Listening to the audiobook while making dinner. Especially when dinner is tacos and you’re cooking ground beef. Yeah. That’s my life. THAT PART while cooking GROUND BEEF that I then ATE FOR DINNER.
This was awesome! I really should take notes from you and do a 24 hour readathon thing but break it up into 12 hours per day because I just did one and it ruined my sleep cycle. 😅 oh well. I really want to read Nothing But Blackened Teeth too. It sounds SO amazing.
We've read so many of the same books recently! I'm currently reading Night of the Mannequins, I read Nothing But Blackened Teeth last week (and ~loved~ it), and I read Horrorstor in October too (it didn't work for me either. I loved the premise and how immersive it was with its catalogue format but the story itself fell flat for me too)
I'm planning to read "nothing but blackened teeth", the rating on Goodreads for it is so low now?? So I'm very curious to see if I'll like it too. You definitely put "goddess of filth" on my tbr! Also, the whole time I was watching You S3 I was thinking of "my lovely wife"! I hope you like it, I know I enjoyed it but it's been a while.
I had the exact same reaction to the end of “Things Have Gotten Worse Since we Last Spoke”.. but did I still give it 4 stars.. Yes 😭😭 You should read his other book “Strange Thing we Become” it’s also super short but it’s compiled of 8 short horror stories. I didn’t love it as much, but I still thought it was a solid horror novella
@@skrodlada The strange thing we become? I would say it’s more horror than gore, although I would say gore is definitely a sub genre of horror. It definitely isn’t as disturbing as “things have gotten worse…” Since it’s short stories though I would say that maybe 2-3 stories were gore-ish but more just disturbing and creepy than anything
Hey Riley! You’re a lover of horror AND romance stories? Those genres are right in my alley as both an avid reader and a fellow writer. Newly subscribed!!! And I love listening to ambiance music as well! I recently got into dark royal music, and it inspired me so much for the stories that I create for my work. 😇 Also, have you ever read “Books of Blood Volumes 1-3” by Clive Barker? You might really enjoy it because it’s an anthology of speculative cosmic horror tales and it’s beautifully written and equally horrifying!
🤣🤣🤣 your reaction to THGWSWLS was epic. I got an early copy of it for review and I could never come up with words to review it til this day! 🤣 all I know is that it was 5⭐️ I really want to reread it.
Our reaction to Things have Gotten Worse were the exact same 💀 I initially hated it, but now I’m not sure if I gave the right rating .. I mean, it did do something 😂 this vlog was so fun! always my favourites on booktube ❤️
I completely agree with things have gotten worse since we last spoke. It was disturbing and gross. I didn’t know how to feel about it but I gave it 5 stars. The book did what it was meant to do. So good job to the author.
Man i wish i could read that many books i 24 hours. Although i will say i read the doctor by nikki sloane in just over 24 hours which i believe was i one of your videos that i watched and i have got to say as good as the book was i was not expecting as much sex as there was. Overall a great read so thank you for that recommendation
Omg your Face!!! Yes that was my face at work reading that book. But I loved that book and so surprised how much I enjoyed that messed up book. The meat scene had me wanna throw up
Interesting! I haven't heard anyone talk about The Goddess of Filth. I didn't expect you to rate it five stars. I enjoyed it but it was still so weird especially with all the bleeding the girl did.

omg loki the blanket monster in the background of the beginning 😂

This was so relaxing. Really makes me want to set some time aside to get a bunch of reading in again.

I'm reading The Duke Heist for this round of Smutathon on your rec. I wanted to pick something both you and Lainey have read in the past!
LMAAAOOO please more reactions to books 😭💗
I love your vlogs so much!!!!!! ❤️
I felt similar with Horrorstor, it was quirky but I was expecting more... I haven't read any more by him yet
I hate to double comment but I NEED another blurbed by my favorite author video!!!

Love Grady Hendrix, but Horrorstor didn't work for me

A series of unfortunate events!
Second!
I gave Horrorstör 3 stars, it was fine but nothing spectacular :- )
