If you don’t like Achilles I think you’ll really like The Silence of the Girls. Achilles isn’t the hero and Briseis talks about how much she hates him a lot lol. It’s definitely a quiet book but I liked the perspective of the Trojan war from the people who weren’t “allowed” to have an opinion if that makes sense
What I loved about the song of Achilles was the love Patroclus had for Achilles, Achilles himself was a bit of an arse but I loved Patroclus so much that it made the story
I do love the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus but you're 100% correct about Achilles being a red flag. I think because it's not a Romance book I can forgive it. To me it's about an unequal relationship and I think that's interesting. It's not unrequited love, but it's almost close in many respects.
Oh I also had really mixed reviews on this The Song of Achilles. It took me forever to get through it because I just didn't care about anything, but then the last 20 pages I was crying like a crazy person (not for the love story, but for Patroclus alone). I ended up giving it 4 stars too. It was a 3 star all the way through, but the ending just wrenched emotion out of me.
BRAD PITT IN TROY! YESSSS! He is who I pictured through this whole book and he and Henry Cavil as The Witcher will forever by what makes me drool over men with long blonde/white hair!!!
I agree with everything you said about the song of Achilles and Circe 100% I also read the song of Achilles in January and loved it. I read Circe last year and as you said it was like a chore!
I felt the same way about The Song of Achilles! I felt like I was missing something and even went back to re-read some of it, but nope, the love story just didn't work for me. I own and plan to read Circe but have been putting it off. Really like this vlog concept! I always tend to read from authors I know I love but rarely think about authors who are only ok, or even disliked a book. I definitely want to give some a 2nd chance now.
You literally have the exact thoughts on history of wild places!! I was so disappointed by this ending and how the explanation of the twist didn’t make sense overall
I felt the exact same way about History of Wild Places and gave it the same rating, lol. 3.5 stars. I rounded down to a 3 on goodreads. I didn’t like Circe either. I dnfed it. I’ll have to check out Song of Achilles and see if I like that one. Fun vlog!
@@RileyMarie_ I think I will just out of curiosity, maybe with low expectations. I'd love to try her Persephone story once it comes out especially if it's not romantic (there are plenty of those).
I 100% agree with you on the Song of Achilles. I HATED Achilles and I never understood why Patrocolus loved him ever. It took me so long to get through it because their relationship was not interesting to me.
Oh yeah, plot twists and endings affect how I'm going to rate thrillers for sure 😂 maybe there are exceptions but I've yet to read any.. a bad ending can definitely dampen the whole thing for me.
Can I talk about "The silence of the Girls" for 2 sec? Yes, it's _mainly_ from Briseis point of view. But about 50% in, we're having Achille's too. And more and more... I was soo upset that by the end, we mostly have Achille's and less Briseis's. That my only complain about that book. Just to adjust your expectations.
The only book that I’ve loved about the Trojan War was Warrior Rising by P.C.Cast. I haven’t found another one that I like although to be honest I haven’t looked 😉 It was so good that I haven’t needed to read anything else about it😂
Omg I’m so glad someone else doesn’t like Madeline millers writing (I mean I’m glad she’s successful but you know what I mean) the whole book I was like ok but why do I careeeeee

coming from a person who studies antiquity professionally -- THIS!! I recommend the Silence of the Girls to EVERYONE
What I loved about the song of Achilles was the love Patroclus had for Achilles, Achilles himself was a bit of an arse but I loved Patroclus so much that it made the story
I loved Petrocolus too.

I totally get that, i think maybe I would have enjoyed that aspect more if there was more discussion or a resolution to Achilles toxic behavior
"They're wizards." 🤣 I love the spontaneous foundation review!
I liked the Song of Achilles but i do think it's over hyped. Sometimes i feel like I read the wrong book because of how I see people reach to it 😅
i feel that, like it was really good but not as special as people make it seem

this concept is so cool for a vlog! I also didn’t really like Circe and still want to try reading song of Achilles ✨

yesss the longer i think about it the more the ending just really ruined it for me
i dont care about spoilers either. it actually heightens my enjoyment :)

I cant wear foundation either. I wear tinted moisturizer or missha bb cream
I agree completely with the song of Achilles but now I’m worried about Circe which I have not read lol
Okay I’m in love with Wyatt
💖💖💖
I didn't like Circe but everyone loves Song of Achilles so I wanted to try it but now I'm not so sure 😬
You should try it! It was way better than circe in my opinion

LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!

I bought the song of Achilles bc it’s so hyped and I have like 0 motivation to read it

Describe your book in five words or less: "Dudes on a beach"😂
The only book that I’ve loved about the Trojan War was Warrior Rising by P.C.Cast. I haven’t found another one that I like although to be honest I haven’t looked 😉 It was so good that I haven’t needed to read anything else about it😂
everyone surprised that they cried of the song of achilles lol it's a greek tragedy! I thought everyone knew it would be sad
I haven’t read any of these and based on this.. I still won’t.
SBU’s #baileyblizzard! Like her!
I love your videos x
😘😘
Hard agree with Song of, the romance is so underwhelming. A better love story in the same vein as this one is Axios by Jaclyn Osborn
I always give authors a second chance cause they have their ups and downs too.
Omg I’m so glad someone else doesn’t like Madeline millers writing (I mean I’m glad she’s successful but you know what I mean) the whole book I was like ok but why do I careeeeee
Enjoyable video. As an aside, you were gorgeous as a brunette.🙂
i am very tired of the Trojan war obsession. I want to read more Greek mythology but please something else besides the trojan war
same like please write about anything else i'm begging
Yes! I wasn’t a big fan of either song of Achilles or Circe. Her writing just does not seem to be for me!
Hated a history of wild places
sorry it didn't work for you
