They Turned Deadliest Warrior Into An Esport? - For Honor

  • For Honor is a fighting game developed and published by Ubisoft. The game features players playing as characters from various medieval-themed factions ranging from Iron Legion (Knights) to the Dawn Empire (Samurai).
    As a competitive title with a high skill ceiling and unique mechanics, For Honor has a passionate grassroots community that took root following the game's launch. While there have been various tournaments including appearances at the EVO Championship Series, it has been challenging for the title to break into the mainstream.
    This is the story of For Honor esports.

      Freeze, could you make a video commenting on the feasibility of a combo system in For Honor? I play both Street Fighter and For Honor and I don't see spam complaints on Street Fighter. I believe this is because the characters' stronger mechanics and the greatest damage is only achieved if you know how to execute the combo correctly.

    I’ve thought for a long time that For Honor is a really underrated game for esports. It’s had bad balancing issues for a long time, but things are improving, and it has one of the most unique combat systems in gaming. I’ve heard even people who don’t like the game often express that they go back to it purely because of how good the combat system can be.

    • @jasonarreguin1047
      @jasonarreguin1047 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the balancing better? Last I've heard they gave nerfs the lawbringer and centurion that just shredded their identity and then released jormungdir, who was essentially day 1 centurion. I left because they just kept violating shinobi by constantly nerfing him, and he was my favorite

    • @thepearled0120

      @@jasonarreguin1047 That was a verrrrrrry long time ago. Centurion got his rework like, a year ago, and is now one of the better balanced characters in the game. Shinobi just got his rework in the testing grounds, and it looks like he's going to be genuinely viable by the next season. Jorm, on the other hand, is arguably one of the weakest characters in the game in its current state. You should see how much things have changed!

    • @jasonarreguin1047
      @jasonarreguin1047 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Last I checked, centurion couldn't combo charged punch into the jump anymore, which was his whole gimmick, shinobi lost almost half his bar of stamina doing a kick and it didn't have armor or do as much stamina damage, and jorg was dominating like s2 centurion. As someone who plays other fighting games I want to point out some things I really enjoy about this game that I wish other fighting games would start doing more of.
    - Online training mode (Guilty gear: Strive also has it but there are a lot that do not)
    - The ability to play ALL characters in training mode (You do not have to look up data online for other characters to learn how to beat them, and you are able to try a character before you buy it)
    - You can buy ALL characters with the in game currency (I bought the base game when it came out and now own all 29 heroes and only purchased 5 of them with $)
    - Great customization options (Multiple armor sets and weapons to deck your guy out and really make him stand out from the rest)
    This game got me to try other fighting games and fall in love with the genre and I get more and more excited seeing all the toxic problems of the game get patched out and I highly recommend trying the game out if you ever get the chance.

    Been with For Honor from it's very start (mainly since am a sucker for Medievil Knights and Fighting games)
    What was probably the most curious thing about For Honor, that it legitimately took the devs YEARS to realize that what they made was, in fact, a Fighting game.
    As initially For Honor was effectively pitched as an action/Moba/Dynasty Warriors-lite hybrid game.
    Also, while controversial, I'd say this game still remains a fair monument on Ubisofts long-term support of games. Adding Dedicated servers and supporting it even through it's dark times, couldn't have been profitable, but they still did it. A LOT of people dropped the game cold during it's initial launch and peer-to-peer time.

    I just got this game a year ago and honestly, I can't quit playing it. I was just watching TH-cam clips of it and thinking it would be really fun. Idk what everyone else's experience with this game is but it's amazing. It never disappoints and I have fun even when I'm losing. Love the video!

      4v4s are more fast paced, less defensive and have more depth than 1v1s due to external attacks, ganks, peels and feats.

    • @randomuser-mv7bb

      The 1v1 would be better if they tone down the clock a bit like 90 sec or something, to force players more aggressive. 5 minutes is too long, and it rewards the passive playstyle, which makes the game slow and not fun to watch.

    • @SiahEV
      @SiahEV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@randomuser-mv7bb doubt that would Solve anything , whoever has the lead doesn't need to do anything and still just wait the clock just for a shorter time.

    I was hyped in 2017 when it released. But then it was unplayable and I was very sad that they killed such a unique game. One year ago I got back into it and this was where For Honor was at the lowest. I was so afraid that it would die right as i jumped in. But now, glad to see that its here to stay and is even being recognized.

    My take on For Honor: the main reason it didn't get as good as it could have is that Ubisoft didn't know that what they were making was a fighting game in the first place. Many of the blunders of year 1 and year 2 could have been avoided if the gameplay was closer to a fighting game than to a zelda, and the game wouldn't have lost as much momentum as it did.
    Still, I'm glad that Ubisoft didn't give up on this project, and that they're still showing support to it to this day
