Making and fitting a picture frame window

- Well, half way through working on the kitchen and the boss decided the window isn't big enough so I had go off and make a new one! She decided it would be a 'picture frame' window without any openings because the extra framework blocks out the light! It's best to just do it, peaceful life and all that. I went into quite a bit of detail on this one. Enjoy!
I have been posting regular updates on this patreon thing- / newyorkshireworkshop - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I don't believe there is anything more satisfying than watching a master craftsman ply his trade, hats off to you.

yes, i could watch this lad all day
There is more heart and soul poured into this restauration than there ever was when the damn thing was built in the first place.
I watched his video and they are spot on .top grade and all on his owen a true craftsman top marks
I really look forward to your uploads mate! 👍
Same!
Same for me
Me to!
Same for me too 👍🏾💙
I build windows for a living and that wood is the most beautiful stuff I have ever worked with.

This kind of humour is why I love this channel
what more could one ask for at christmas than an hour long video from Russ .. bliss 🙂
Agreed 😊
A two hour long video.
Two and half hour
Three !!
That's not a window, it's a work of art.
👍 I just had to watch this again, that was a lot of work that went into this window and I'm sure it will last 100 years.
Unrelenting pursuit of quality. A joy to watch. Thank you.
All I want for Christmas is…. New Yorkshire Workshop! Thank you 😊
Aside from the great variety and skill of the craftsmanship, the subtle humour is one of my favorite things about the NYW. Thanks
Agreed 👍🏾💙
Damned, you‘re modern Leonardo da Vinci 🙏
Never has so much been thought without a word being spoken
I don't know how any of the tools work, what the words mean, what the purpose is, but I cant stop watching. It's like listening to music without knowing the names of the instruments or how to read the score, its just beautiful.
Another hour of absolutely no prisoners taken...
a
I do know and its still compelling viewing. I just wish I could do similar but a stroke took away my left arm and hand
@@stephenyoud6125 I am sorry you lost that. I am glad you can still enjoy the music though.
@@Warriorbox I still manage some things one handed like modifying loudspeakers and making up new cables for the home cinema room just need o be creative either how to clamp and hold things like holding the solder in my teeth while soldering
@@stephenyoud6125 That's a video I could watch Stephen! don't set fire to your beard. That is a true craftsman, finding a way. Happy Christmas
The magnificent vista through that picture window is something to behold
Made my day waking up (in the US) to a new video from you.
Beautifully done, should last several lifetimes.
One of the best on utube and he’s a Yorkshire man. Well done..
It was a pleasure, as always!
The greatest TH-cam channel that ever was!!!
You make me laugh out loud, along with super good work. Thank you.
Good to know there's still some out there who are true artisans.
"Sighting down the wood to look for curvature" - feels like I spend hours doing that with every bit of wood Wickes, B&Q etc sell.
ive litterally just spent half an hour at wickes buying 7 lengths of 4x2, had to go through the whole rack! :/
@@NewYorkshireWorkshopalmost all UK DIY shops these days seem to specialise in selling wood bananas. I used to get some decent stuff from PBS in Harrogate, until they closed :(
Simply use 8x4 and remove the curved outside parts.......Oh......Wickes......12x6 may be a better starting size.@@NewYorkshireWorkshop
@@NewYorkshireWorkshopyour doing well if you got that many and only visited one Wickes!
Thanks, Russ! I've been jonesing for a dose of epic New Yorkshire Workshoppery 😅 Yet another mesmerizing example of planning, attention to detail, and craftsmanship that crosses over into artistry. Merry Christmas to you and the family. May 2024 bring nothing but peace, joy, and love to all of you!
Excellent work. That window frame is never going to come apart
What really impresses me is how calm and composed you are throughout. I redecorated our hallway in an Edwardian house recently and when I went to repair some cracks, a whole wall of plaster just came off 😮 I was left with a brick wall. I panicked like hell and ended up dot and dabbing some plasterboard over the top and skimming it myself but I was a bag of nerves throughout and constantly questioning what I’m doing. You’re a master of all trades and I wish I had an ounce of your confidence.
With how much metal fabrication I've been into lately, I've been more afraid of injury from the workpiece rather than the tools.. I almost forgot just how ridiculously quickly the average woodworking tools will dismember. The shaper in particular really put the fear of god back in me, I'll tell ya. 😂
Beautiful job, you're wife will be proud of you. Thanks for sharing with us. Happy 2024.
New Yorkshire Workshop is to woodworking and home renovation that My Mechanics is to metal working and item restoration. Both gold standards in their fields, as far as I'm concerned! Well done, sir.
Got to say, Is there anything you cannot do? So many different trades on show. All the expert woodworking in countless videos, your electrical work setting up all the CNC stuff, the plethora of building work (The coving was ridiculous) and countless others, and now this, Your wife is a very lucky woman.
We all wondered what was going on in New Yorkshire as it's been a couple months since the last video.I think we all know how really difficult this project was, but our New Yorkshire man was up to the task!
Its always fun when the lump hammer comes out to play
Happy Wife, Happy Life. We have all been there with that one Russ!
Genius. please don't leave it two months between video. I'm beginning to bite my finger nail in anticipation. Well done on video quality and building skills.
As much as I also want more content. I feel compared to most creators with Russ’s attention to detail that 2 months is not unreasonable.
There are a lot of great woodworking channels on TH-cam, but none of them can compare to Russ' craftsmanship, detail, tool skills, and production quality.
Amen.
Here the thing: this content is next-level in every way. Watching this is like going to the opera or Seeing a Broadway play. I realize it's not everyone's thing but that doesn't diminish the quality. Like when you go to a really good lecture or presentation... I walk away from each of these and think to myself how much richer my life is because of the experience. Honest to God this is one of my favorite channels! I can't tell you how unbelievably impressed I am!
The only problem....the wife has a better view of the row of fridges out back 😆 Lovely window though!
I dare not move them in case they sprout legs and start attacking me. god only knows what is inside them!
Ah, to err is human; finding the missing piece is divine! Another top-shelf video. Thanks for all you do, and all the best for the holidays and 2024.
Isn't it frustrating when the client decides that the scope of the job "must" change. That's got to be worth a few beers with the first meal cooked in the revamped kitchen. Great job, thanks for sharing.
My favorite channel right now 👍🏻😎
Congratulations, Sir! You are a real craftsman. No doubt the missus was very pleased with her new kitchen window.
I love your style, custom builds CNC Nibbler, yet clenches butt and uses a framing hammer to nail in window beadings. Goonies never say die.
I can watch you all day….screw that I would jump in and help. I love it! Thank you for sharing
Top job as always!
A master craftsman at work.
I get a lot of comfort out of knowing I'm not the only person who wears the same work clothes every day for 6 months
🤣
Good job like always…😊
That window looked terrible, but I love what you've done on the patio! No, seriously, top job, love the way you used a hardwood for the frame, it lends itself so much better to the stonework.
29:27 That angled sled is a very clever idea. I never would have thought of that.
Never seen anyone cut into a wall with no dust, amazing!
I'm German. We damn well know how to deliver absolute quality. This man is a master. Period.
Except you're bad at winning.
quality comes from the individual not the nationality.
Is there no limit to this man's skills!
Another excellent presentation Russ. I like the judicious use of the Safety Squints while removing the blocks ;)
Terrific job Russ! Wishing you and your Family A Very Happy and Healthy 2024❤❤❤❤❤
Great job as always. I hope the site foreman was happy!
Call yourself a Yorkshireman?
3:1 mortar mix? Surely, about 8:1 would be cheaper? 😀
Beatuful, high standard work as always. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for all the effort you go to.
Always waiting for the next video. I don’t know why but I’m always curious what you’re working on next.
Sublime, you're gonna influence tons of DIY'ers into all sorts of trouble, hehe. Great work, Russ, a true mastery of ALL crafts!
from someone who thinks what you do is magic, thank you for showing a mistake. it makes me think I could give wood working a go.
Woohoo! A new New Yorkshire Workshop video! You just made my day!
I hate it when your videos come to an end :-((
I could watch them all day !!
As ever struck by the meticulous craftsmanship contrasted with the absolute tip of a back yard.
Maybe he is waiting until he has enough rubbish for a skip?
As a hobbyist, you're projects are well beyond my capabilities but over the years I have absorbed and used all kinds of little tips and techniques from your videos. Thank you for posting these. 👍
I love these videos, it’s therapeutic to watch someone who is so good with an eye for such detail and perfection.
Thank you for your videos. You are truly a craftsman without peer. Lubbock, Texas, USA.
Is there anything you cant do?? Always wonderful watching someone who knows what they're doing, doing it.....
The crowbar has always been an essential part of one's toolbox 😂
Proper job as always. Thank you for posting.
Just been through the same job but went for a pivot hung window instead. What a mission!
You’re truly an amazing craftsman!
It is good to see you back. Longtime no see. You have some of the greatest videos.
Wow. A true artisan at work!
The craftsmanship is beyond belief 👍
Fantastic work/humor, always love your content.
That casing will never come apart. Good job and thank you for sharing.
Perfect timing as I've just finished rewatching the roofing video!
I think the battleship gray goes perfectly with the color of the block. Great choice your a fine craftsman. God bless
What amazes me is the fact that at some points in his videos I, a clueless hobbyist, am thinking 'Wouldn't there be a better tool/way to do just that?' and then he just goes ahead and makes it all work out seemingly easily. Really goes to show you how much skill and experience mean to produce masterful outcomes. True craftsmanship, fullest respect!
That's a beautiful window, excellent for gazing at that flock of wild kitchen appliances in their natural habitat (;
I am so excited for the box sash window build, every time you upload I get genuinely excited, love your videos so much mate!
Excellent build and the linseed oil paint was just beautiful.
As a fellow DIYer with an 120 year old house I watch your videos with a level of admiration surpassed by very few. You make me want to redo every job ive already completed!! :)
Having the window extended downwards makes a heck of a difference to the view, fantastic work.
Oui, on voit mieux les vilains murs de brique et le tas de chose à jeter ... 😂

Perfect as usual ! and i'am was forced today to rewatch your DOOR making project again... thanks !
wow, that's the closet to wood welding I've seen, M/T, wedged, and pegged. like when Spock told Kirk "You must be one with the Rock Captain"🤪
You should use eye protection when doing any renovation work etc. I know from personal experience that mortar in eye ain't fun :(. Keep yourself safe!
That said, awesome video! Nice progress and nice sneak preview of the kitchen cabinets! :)
Superb video. Excellent to see a window frame made by a proper joiner. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just be careful of debris in the wall cavity during enlarging the opening. Bridged cavities = dampness.
I am so ashamed that my first impulse was to throw my debris down the cavity. I know better, but it's like an intrusive thought. LOL
That Sapele dust is burning my lungs through the computer screen!
Fantastic work as always!
I wish my contractor knew about those diamond blades, then my apartment wouldn't end looking like the Sahara! haha
Career metalworker just retired. Getting into woodworking. I really enjoy working with wood. Great video. Learned alot. 👍
The track saw hack was genius. Another great video thank you.
Great video. A safety reminder is always good. Thats why they have toolbox safety meetings at work every day. When I was in college, I was a framing carpenter. One day it was late in the afternoon and we were trying to finish this house and I was ripping a 2x4 down the middle on a 45 bevel to add dead wood to a bay window. I was rushing and didn’t nail it down to the saw horses as usual and instead held it in my hand and proceeded to cut the fingerprint pads off of two of my fingers. You could see the bone on those two fingers as the pads were gone. Thankfully the fingers were still “full length” but the injury was super painful and took months for my pads to grow back.
This is the one channel that I watch at least once and several of a the videos a few times. Very skilled guy. Please keep up the great work you inspire and give a lot of pleasure.
Nice job! The glass looked bloody heavy.
Lovely!
Thanks for sharing the safe cross cut setup.
If the women don't find ya' handsome.....
They better find ya' handy!

You're an Ace ! Boss !!! 👍👍
Another masterpiece!
PS: I bet the neighbours are asking., "What on earth is he doing now...?" LOL
Awesome. Thanks for sharing with so much detail. It's really nice to have some content like yours.
Peaceful work, with a lot of detail. Keep on going, this is so enjoyable
Great video Russ can't wait to see the finished kitchen, hope you and the family have a great Christmas & New Year.
I’m currently doing a lv2 bench joinery course at college. Learning a huge amount from your channel.
My favorite channel. So much skill, I rewatch your videos frequently because they are so relaxing with just the sounds of the work being done. Can't wait to see the kitchen finished. ❤
In Italy changing the window size of an historical building would require a lot of paperwork and a NO from the authorities.
Lucky you!
