and this explains why this would probably be the last season of fleabag, phoebe said she would make one maybe when she's really old, precisely because fleabag doesn't NEED the audience anymore because she used the 4th wall to dissociate from reality and avoid it; but love made her see herself like a mirror for one's soul and mind. Maybe fleabag would get lost again and find us down the road, or maybe she would get so good at loving that she wouldn't need the 4th wall to dissociate from the real life but instead use it to cherish them. We'll see what phoebe comes up with, it WILL surely blow our minds. Loved this. This is hands down the most beautiful explanation of this gem of a show I have watched yet and trust me I have watched EVERY single one of them. This was so interesting. I never really thought about how Fleabag's faith in higher power is driving/influencing her. I mostly thought of it as The Priest's sincerity and belief is what attracts her. It was also interesting to hear your take on the camera as character. I always interpreted it as Fleabag performing her life and relationships. And the Hot priest's speech about love in the finale. . .is my absolute favourite speech/dialogue writing on screen. What a joy this show is!! ❤ P.S - Would you consider doing another video on the s2 dinner scene? I can watch that on repeat.
i don't think fleabag ever considered us her imaginary friends. To me it seemed like she knew she was part of a film and we were the audience, like the priest could see us but not hear us as well. I once found a blog where this phenomenon was described as the priest being a spiritual agent, able to see otherworldly presence like us. After all we vieweres are otherworldly to those inside the movie. I thought it was like the 4th wall was thin arounf foeabag and she knew she was being watched and there are people who are entertainment with the disastrous life she lives. Amd at the end she asks us to stop following her, because she realizes that her life can never be better as long as WE are watching. We demand entertainment, we demand her suffering.
