I saw this movie when it came out in 2018. Tilotama Shome is an incredibly talented actress who adeptly portrays even the most subtle emotions, such as a smile... it's as if she tailors the length of her smile to fit the character. Anyway, I admire how many key moments in this film were deeply explained, which I had overlooked due to my lack of understanding or limited knowledge of filmmaking. Great job! Lots of love.
The way she talks, walks, emotes, carries herself, you'd think she is someone from that "class". The tension, hesitation, insecurity...she conveys all of that so well.

The reason she calls him ashwin according to me is she finally thinks shes equal because of her job she finally felt she has achieved something which is acceptable according to the societal standards she feels that she is equalent to his level of hierarchy and she has achieved something she feels this can be accepted by society hence they can both be in a relationship notice how ratna do not care about the societal standards in the beginning when she comes back to work even after Ashwin's fiance is no more but gets a reality check and then again do not care about society despite caring about society there are lot of layers to this beautiful movie

Ashwin is the biggest GREEN FLAG in a lot of romance movie i have watched.
Excellent Analysis. I know this film is the POV of Ratna. But what I felt after watching this movie is a Man always prefer a Woman who takes care of him.
Completely missed the point of the movie. The movie is about Ashwin finally noticing a woman full of capabilities and intelligence reduced merely to being a servant taking care of him and gradually sees her as an equal, provides her with means to start her career and finally setting her free to pursue her dreams despite being in love with her.
Felt like a love letter for the movie ❤
I watched this movie long long back and i recommended everyone to watch it. This movie touches your heart with its characters, narrations, performances, subtilty and most importantly it's own pace. You will feel for this movie, it doesn't rush nor tries to prove any point. It just uncovers a layer from our heart and makes us feel good about them throughout the journey.
this is so well articulated, in one the core papers I study at university, we have a concept namely space by henri lefebvre and the front and back theory by goffman. this movie is the perfect example for the analysis. 10/10 presentation
These narrations are kind of needed for people who watch a heartwarming movie, without understanding the art of cinematography, so that we can also pay attention to the details made by the maker. how the small elements in the frames are arranged to portray the essence of the characters. We the common folk might just only get the partial warmth of an artwork at its face value, but now because of the narration, we can also indulge in the hidden beauty intricately woven in it.
This film has my heart. It's simple in it is potryal but yet it's effective the Simplicity to show class levels is beautiful.
loved how you interpreted the details. This is one of my favourite films to watch. How subtly the society always reminds you of your class and how difficult it is to emerge from them. I am still not convinced that she is ready to love him back but perhaps this is finally a sign where she acknowledges that he truly loves her and has risen from the shallow societal norms of class divide. Her calling him by his name is the most important scene in my pov where she considers herself as an equal - perhaps not in class yet but equal as a person, maybe even as a friend. Not lover yet but just a small step that shows that you have to consider yourself equal to your potential partner. That's the first step of falling in love. Nobody's above each other in a relationship. There's no class divide, no income divide. Just equal partners in ways more than one.

The way you have explained the scenes, and the gestures of the characters is utterly commendable... Now I understand why the general public do not understand the body language of Movies... Now I would watch every movie or a character with the your lens :)
I watched this movie a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. I liked it better than any kdramas.

This movie is not in Netfix anymore, because of obvious reason that people don't watch good movies in our Nation. I wanted to show it to my mother and then I found it on TH-cam. A lot of us complain we don't make good movies in India. The fact of the matter is we don't watch good movies in India. To all the women who cry foul for men's behaviour, if you don't want bad behaviour from men you will have to stop promoting it first. Women call Kabir Singh as misogynist but you went to see that movie and made it a super-hit and when the representation of Ashwin comes to the screen, you don't watch it even at the comfort of your home.

I would recommend watching this movie alone. Once someone recommended this movie to me and I decided to watch it on calm Sunday afternoon with my family. Now they discard any movie recommendation coming from me without even bothering themselves with trailer. I watched this video because I missed movie little bit under the pressure of disappointed glances of my wife and brother throughout. I think I somewhat like the movie, I might've enjoyed the subtlety more of it if I had watched it alone.
Ashwin tells his dad "I've got the budget, I've got the design, you wanted me to handle this site, so let me handle it" Cut to the next scene where Ratna asks permission from the tailor master to use his sewing machine. This flawlessly shows the difference between privileged vs unprivileged.
Ratna's bag zip always gave trouble while packing. Ashwin's was so smooth. The class divide cannot be said anymore subtlety than this.
Kudos to the director.

The man helped her to be equal with him , as it was one of the problem in Ratna's life , this is love he tried to solve problem , which we should also learn breaking every problem into little solution to deal with it .
I think it is possible in India only because it's a poor country literally and metaphorically, you don't see this type of films from developed countries as they have their dignified lives as cleaner or servants. We have of economic inequality and per capita income so low that it allows this kind of situation. But one thing I can't make out of riches, "if you talk of manners and etiquette all the time, why can't you show it to your househelps ?"
I partly agree but it is true for many other countries as well. A good portrayal would be the one in Parasite by Bong Joon Ho.
@@Cinemawali No you're right but in other countries the case will be of class division only but in india there is also an angle of caste and untouchability strikes through.. and yes probably in everywhere there will be some classification based on economic strata, but what will be the relationship that is to be a matter of exploration

In a very short time we just feeled the whole emotions of the beautiful movie. The movie holds a pure emotion and a very natural story line. The role played by both ratna and Ashwin is soo beautiful and perfect and vibe of Mumbai City adds the remaining magic✨.
