this rings SO true... many of my friends in high school were these types of kids.... they all dressed like Marilyn Manson clones and it always struck me as kind of missing the point. I, too, felt very different and didn't want to just go along... so... I actually spent time inventing things to do with my hair, clothes, etc. that *nobody* else was doing... haha... got some weird looks... but... you can't very well call yourself a nonconformist if you just copy your peers or some celebrity you like...
This part went over Dash's head. Sad :\
This is honestly the episode where Butters' parents treat him like decent parents
The Jimmy “cont” bit was a stroke of genius, as an example of “plausible deniability”. If the network objected to the repeated use of the taboo c-word, Parker and Stone could just say the censor had a dirty mind, nudge-wink.
I just appreciated the fact/irony that the original broadcast show had Jimmy say "cont" completely uncensored, but when Wendy said "tell Stan to f**k off" that was still bleeped 😂

‘Continuing source of inspiration’ was one of the all time great uses of Jimmy’s stutter. I laughed my balls off the first time I saw this episode 😂

Butters is literally the most well adjusted, emotionally intelligent kid in this show. Truly a wholesome character.

I like that Stan cont...inues to maintain a good relationship with the goth kids after this relationship. They don't agree with Stan or understand him, but they still seem to care about him.

I like that the *show* still has a great relationship with the goth kids. IMO if you never go through a goth kid phase (or a punk kid phase, etc.) and grow out of it, then how can you really call yourself an adult? 🤔

This episode is one of my favorites. Butters' speech about accepting his pain in order to move on to the future is a lesson worth more than gold. We talked about this a lot back in a Philosophy class in college centered around South Park. "All becoming and growing,” Nietzsche wrote, “all that guarantees the future, postulates pain.”
I love the irony that Butters better understands the underlying message of most gothic poetry better than the goth kids.

Kyle couldn't get through to Stan 'cause he was essentially just saying "Dude get over it", where Butters at least helped Stan understand what he was feeling and the good that came with the bad.
Matt and Trey nailed Goths! This episode takes me back to 1992, drinking coffee at Denny's, smoking, going to the Rave to see Siouxie and the Banshees...life was honestly beautiful when I was young.
15:46 Butters' "beautiful sadness" speech is one of my favorite speeches in movies and TV, and it became real world relevant to me last year when I suffered a huge loss of things that had meant the world to me resulting in a "Why even bother to care/why even bother to try if everything sooner or later just turns to dust and ash anyway?" depression, but I eventually decided that the things I did and the things my family and friends did haven't been erased even if the tangible reminders/mementos/evidence were destroyed, and that what we did and why we did them haven't lost their meaning and value.

Such a great dig at people who all try to be different in exactly the same way.

Hear hear, the Goth Kids are some of my favorite characters. "No way no way no way!" _Dawn of the Posers_ is off the chain, it's almost like _Pip_ breaking the format to tell this random, very involved story. So fun. "I wanna be called by my goth name: Nightpain."

@@TheCapedWanderer I don’t know if you played South Park the Fractured But Whole in the Casa Bonita DLC you can play with Henrietta in your party which is awesome and at the end of the DLC Kenny’s sister Karen becomes a Goth kid. I kinda hope she continues as a goth kid in the actual show, probably unlikely though.
@@rintedder No. Way. I have it and loved it but didn’t play the DLC, I’ll have to check it out. Kenny’s sister has been an interesting way to give him some depth and characterization, which I know they’ve struggled with for “prop characters” like Kenny and Timmy who can’t have real dialogue. _The Poor Kid_ is great for the Karen-Kenny dynamic, and that super sweet ending of _The City Part of Town_ from S19. I’d be happy to see her join the goths, she’s certainly earned it lol!
Ive been waiting for you to do this episode just for the Jimmy part 🤣one of my favorite south park moments ever. I love how south park treads on the line of whats acceptable or not, and basically saying the C word on national television through someone with a disability is just pure genius
One of my favorite episodes and lowkey actually took Butters speech to heart when it came out. Just one of the random life lessons taken away from South Park.
The "continuing source of inspiration" joke has to be the most clever way to get around censoring I've ever seen. When the episode airs on TV, they don't censor the "cont" but they do censor the "well tell Stan to f*ck off." Hats of to Trey and Matt for that one lol.

Butter's words of wisdom at the end is probably one of the most iconic quotes for me. What a beautiful perspective to have.

This episode really helped me when I was going through a similar situation. Butters life lesson at the end really spoke to me and let me see the good in the bad. South Park isnt just swear words and crude humor after all
Interestingly at the end Butters basically describes what goth philosophy is actually about, finding beauty in the sad things of life.

I'll never forget having a bad breakup and my close friend (mutual friend with the girl that broke up with me, she's how we met actually) coming over with a bottle and watching South Park with me. She played this episode, never mentioned the absolute truth bomb speech Butters was going to have and I weirdly felt a lot better afterwards. Life is going to have really happy moments and really sad moments, it's human to feel hurt when you and someone you love and care for go separate ways. My friend that put on that episode and drank with me and got me through my sappy crying stuff was a real one.
This reaction made me realize just how much music was in this episode. It's pretty cray. They must have been opening up the checkbook tons for the rights to those songs.

This episode came right on time! I was literally just thinking about Butters’ speech because I’m going through my own mental struggle regarding someone I was involved with. That speech actually made me feel better.
We had a guy in the army that was exactly like Butters in this episode. He so thoroughly misconstrued his Hooters waitress' flirting that he went there nightly to see his "girlfriend." We even showed him this episode, and he was still in denial. We had to go there to tell her to stop leading him on and tell him the truth, because he just wouldn't accept us telling him they flirt with you for bigger tips and that it wasn't a real relationship.
Did he eventually accept that the Hooters waitress wasn't intrested in him???

However, I can't help but think your talents are being under-utilized. So it's alleged that part of the inspiration of this episode was inspired by Trey's tale of heartbreak in which his college sweetheart who he was engaged to in the early 90's cheated on him with an acapella group member. This was during the time that Trey was developing his college project which later would become Cannibal! The Musical with Matt and as a particular F U to his ex-fiance, he named the main character's unloyal horse after her and hidden some snide remarks directed at her in the script. He also had her do some choreography work for the film and invited her to the premiere so she would have to sit through everything directed at her... also her name was Lianne. Who inspired a certain other promiscuous character...
