After many years of watching hundreds of guitar videos on many different channels, I consider myself qualified to say your channel is top-shelf. Your playing, tone, technical ability, soul, accuracy, etc...are second to none. Your videos are not only extremely helpful and enlightening, but they're damn fun to watch. Top quality in every aspect. Cheers, Ben! 🤘

Vito was an incredible guitarist, criminally underrated. IMO Vito and George Lynch were among the best soloists of that era. I miss this incredible era of music. Thanks for the video

It took awhile to realize how many of the west coast player "borrowed" from George Lynch. Vito is quite possibly the most melodic soloist I've ever heard 10/10

I saw them with Cinderella and Tangiers at UNCW. I think that place held like under 2000. I was able to get backstage early in the day and talk to some of the guys in all the bands. I had lunch with the crew that day and had a wonderful time. Miss the 80's.

Another great lesson Ben. Its bitter sweet listening to White Lion now as I believe Vito had so much still to offer before he moved away from the industry to care for his ailing father and injured his wrist. The Pride album is just full of world class melodic lyrial playing, Inventive Chugging Rhythm Playing, Broken Chord Pre Chorus's , mazing Fills and Song within Song Solos. One of the very best players in an era of great players like Sykes, Nuno, Lynch etc. World Class Musician. Solos from Wait, Little Fighter, Broken Heart, Dont Give Up, Love Dont Come Easy etc all superb he just had that ability to be so lyrical with his call and response solos.

I met Vito back when he played in the cover Metal band Dreamer playing Van Halen and UFO... Vito was the nicest guy and let me checkout his Strat with the brand new Floyd Rose locking tremolo (No fine tuners yet). I used to go to see the at Emmit's Inn in Jamesburg NJ opening for TT Quick and Twisted Sister! Dreamer's drummer at the time was Glenn Evans who later played for TT Quick after Vito left to play with White Lion, then he moved out to CA to play drums for Nuclear Assault! TT Quick's singer Mark is now singing for Accept and well Twisted Sister made themselves great successes! We all new we were looking at total Rockstars at the time. All ten year overnight successes!
This brings back so many great memories, not to mention many of those nights are erased from my memories due to the amount of liquor put back!

  • @ClassicPass_

Favorite part of the solo is the end: Lands on the D (root of the D chord) holds it, and then it becomes the minor 3rd of the Bm chord that starts the post-solo pre-chorus. The note is the same, but has SUCH different feel once the Bm chord hits. It's really a one-note ostanatto. Vito is a MASTER.

Vito is smart, he put his wealth in real estate and other successful ventures so he's not forced into the music biz with the travel and other possibly negative effects on his personal life. He is one gifted player that's greatly missed but I get the logic of not wanting to get back out there. Family Vs Fame It would be nice to see an occasional public appearance but likely he's not in guitar condition like he was in the 1980's.

The story I heard was he hurt his arm from playing and practicing for like 10 to 12 hours a day. Apparently there was nerve damage that made it excruciating to play. He said playing an electric guitar was like getting a hard shock. He's said he can play nylon stringed guitar.
One of the reasons he stayed out was to take care of his ill father.

This is Vito's most beautiful solo ever! it's so melodic and the melody is so nostalgic and almost melancholic that it fits perfectly with the style of the song. the solo is relatively easy but the precision and the feel is what makes him a little complex. also the bends have to be in tune. Vito is a master of melody.

"All you need is Rock n Roll" from The Pride Album. The acoustic intro is Kool, also sounds like someone's getting beat LOL 😆 The use of Octaves with neck pickup engaged during solo. Plus the outro solo. Then on top of that they go into a completely different jam at the end where he shows off more of his skills. Alot to cover on this one.

  • @KarlKarsnark

Moar Vito. This is one of my all time favs. He gets a great "80s tone" on the original track too. He was an early pioneer in lots of cool guitar tech too like EMGs, headless guitars, Tuneable-Locking-Floating trem systems, etc...Would be cool to dive into his gear a bit. Yet, by the end of the band he seemed to be down to a more stripped down basic Strat set up as seen in the "Radar Love" vid. That would be a great song simply because of all the cool licks and tricks he uses. Lots to learn in one easy song.
The C note against the D major chord also creates that suspended 4th to maj 3rd(in key of G) half step interval that is always so bitter sweet too. Vito really plays guitar like a piano player with all of his voice leading and chord tones, as opposed to being a scale shredder that just sort of hopes for happy accidents along the way. While it's certainly intentional, it's also so effortless for him because he does it with such ease on every song. I recently saw an interview with the engineer on Pride and he said Vito did the "Wait" solo in the booth, DI straight into the board in one take and just improvised it on the spot, ffs. Talk about a natural.
Keep up the great work Uncle Ben. Cheers!

I mix Vito's solo with the original when my cover band does "Radar Love." I'm pretty sure i'm the only person who notices. 🤣
When i was starting out learning lead, i thought it was just playing the chord notes in random order. And then years of noodling scales, then learning to move things from my head to my fingers... aaaand all along, it was about targeting notes from the chord. Full circle. 😎🤩

It’s not just that he’s playing notes in the chords. I think you skipped over the real meat, which is often the tension and release of getting in and out of those chords. For example the first C you talked about, over the D chord. You rightly explain that it makes the implied harmony a D7, and in classical harmony that C should resolve down to B in the V-I progression. The beauty here is the C resolves to B, but in a deceptive V-vi cadence when the expected G chord is replaced by the E minor.
Similarly, the bendy-tappy part may “start” on E but really it starts with the D bending up, again creating some tension in getting to the D.
It really stood out to me how many bent notes there are in this solo, and it’s the tension in those that really creates the sense of tasty melodicism that you’re discussing.

The worst thing I can think of about Vito Bratta is that he ever met Mike Tramp! He could have teamed up with any other singer and he would shine brighter than most guitars stars with that golden touch of his. White Lion was such a stillborn project pointing in all directions but forward, if you ask me.

I agree. Mike had a great voice and was great for the time, but Vito was capable of so much more than to be a footnote in a dying genre.

I’d love to see you tackle the solo for Little Fighter. That song is underrated, in my opinion. It’s probably their “poppiest” sounding song too. 🤘🏻
