Your ability to memorise this stuff on the fly blows my mind as someone that will learn a part, think I have it down then learning the next five seconds of the song makes me forget the first part and I have to relearn it. Something like this would probably take me most of a day just to memorise it all.
Don't feel bad, that's most of us and we probably just do our interpretation of it instead n of note for note. It could take on months if it's out of their comfort zone
@@supernothing77 Plus, it's helpful to break it into parts and practice each part. Like Mike did in this video, when he broke the song into shorter manageable sections, not to play each section right, but to make it easier to remember. Factorization is a great mnemonic tool.
Don’t feel bad for not being a quick a learner as Mike, even if you watch the podcast with his own former band members, they say that they had been playing guitar for years and he started and passed them within months
This should give people greater appreciation for Brad Gillis having to learn something like 19 complete songs in a few days to take over for Randy Rhoads.
Vito was one of the all-time great soloists, technically advanced but with a real gift for melody. You're brave to learn his music, let alone in just an hour!
Enjoyed this thoroughly....Vito doesn't get mentioned a lot when people talk about 80's guitarists...but he was a absolute monster. All of his stuff is so melodic...he didn't just shred for the sake of speed.
I actually think he’s remembered and revered as highly as almost anyone from that time period, still underrated and such a killer player . Guy had so much melody
Really good. Vito is one of those players who the average listener can't appreciate as much. He's so good at what he does that it just flows along, and until you go to break it down you don't realize just how incredibly intricate his parts are. Had he remained in the music industry, I suspect he would be considered by this point one of the greats of his generation. Even with his relatively short career, he's already gets those sort of "dark horse" mentions as one of the best.
Great, great video. If you’re anything like me, if you get anywhere close to knowing a tough solo, I don’t try to get it perfect on the first sitting. I’ll sleep on it and the next day I’m usually much, much closer to nailing the piece and can work out any kinks at that point.
I've seen a lot of bands play live over the years, and when White Lion opened for Frehleys Comets it was really special. Vito was so smooth and flawless and he left a mark on me that day. Kudos to you for attempting his work.
I remember my guitar teacher learning this to play with his band in high school. ‘85-‘88. You remind me a lot of him. Dave Kahler. You actually had ‘learned’ it at 38mins. Thanks!
Wow this was an impressive video! One of the greatest guitar solos ever written and you covered so much ground in such a short time. That says a lot of what a powerhouse player you are.
Mike, you did awesome.to get it in an hour is phenomenal,I am an intermediate-semi pro (,who's been playing for 40 years) and this would take me a few days to a week to learn.you are very well ear trained and fluent in the guitar.i think you did awesome.bravo👍🤟
"Showtime Synergy!" Ha-ha. Bonus points for the Jem and The Holograms shirt! even though only those of us of a certain vintage may recognize it. (I'm not old. You're old. :) )
Awesome! Love this solo 🤘🏻🔥 Birthday upload for me 😊You did great with this! I remember learning the solo in Soul Asylums Got It Pretty Good and I kind of did the same thing, started at 50% speed, upped it to 75% as I got it down better, playing along with the full track at that speed at each stage. I also did that same thing, playing it faster and then coming back down, it really worked for me. Thankfully I had a tutorial video from Ryan Smith which gave me the notes haha, i'm not quite a learn by ear wizard just yet, give me a few years. Congrats on 884k Subscribers!
Very nice! I took it upon myself to learn this a while ago. Now it's one of my warmup routines along with wait and radar love. Definitely took me more than an hour... I'd say its taken 10 years and counting!
Really impressive for just an hour! "Big Game" wasn't the great album that "Pride" was, but had its share of good songs and musically they were at the top of their game. Helping the outstanding musicianship is the fact that this album was recorded at the peak of Michael Wagener's production powers.
Great video, bro! That's a really hard solo, not that there are easy Vito solos, lol. I'm learning BLS' Stillborn solo while watching, making some progress. Have a great day!
You're one badass dude, Mike! Give yourself a week, and you'll have this nailed better than Vito himself! I tried really hard to do the 'Wait' solo, and I could never get it down. I practiced it for months. I just eventually had to tap out. I could not get all of the nuances and tapping down cleanly. It always sounded sloppy.
Vito was one bad mofo. Good job wading through it. That solo is changing keys and fast as hell and you did great. You actually played it better than he did on that live version to my ears( not saying anything bad about Vito) I’m looking forward to your polished version for sure. Really cool video!
Knowing fully I will probably never be able to play this, I found a slight joy in watching you choke. Vito is a special player, I wish he had been able to continue his legacy, thanks for highlighting such a great solo.
Ben Eller does a great take on it, as well. Check out the solo in another one of their songs called "Wait". It's another modern classic and right of passage for any would be shredders.
Back when Guitar World rarely printed tab they tabbed this one. It was tuned up 1/2 a step to F with the TransTrem on his guitar so trying to play along woth the tape in standard didnt work.
Great effort man! Vito was a beast! You came very close relatively fast, I think the last phrase was lacking a note b/f the tap, but what do I know? I have been attempting this solo for years.
I'm no expert on learning songs by ear, but I find it very helpful to listen to a part, then sing or hum it, and only then try to play it. It helps a lot when you internalize it first.
I'm trying to learn the lead breaks on a song called "Hope" by Simone Mularoni in a band called DGM. Fantastic. Similar stuff. Check it out if you've not heard of them..
Trying to learn this solo was what finally convinced me that I simply was not good enough😂 Great job! The Goin' Home Tonight solo is another masterpiece
I mentioned this solo on your last livestream. 🙂 Now if your students ever ask "Hey can you teach me the solo to Little Fighter?", you'll be like "Yeah sure. No problem.". You should try his solos for "Don't Give Up" and "Sweet Little Lovin". I love the short choppy (staccato?) stuff he does. Check out the channel Rob Peters III. He has 3 videos of him covering most of Vito's solos.
Think you should do more videos like this! Really really cool concept for a video. Some cool solos to do would be Tooth And Nail by Dokken, It's A Monster by Extreme. Or maybe even newer Extreme stuff like #Rebel and Banshee
Brave man (or crazy) to try to learn a Vito solo in an hour. Seems like you were rushing through section 2 and into section 3. Vito's smoothness is extremely tough to replicate. Good job though.
Learning by ear is the fastest way to learn songs. Yesterday I learned 7 songs for the 3rd set of a gig that I have this coming Saturday. 40 songs learned and 2 more to go. I am almost there.
The rumor is that he did this in one take sitting in the control room just noodling around before the real take and the engineer just happened to be recording. May not be true, but I wouldn't be surprised either.
Dude, in one hour you learned a ridiculously complex guitar solo to the point where you could play it live and nobody would notice where you messed up. I can only dream that I'll be that good in ten years.
Love everything about this song except the lyrics, which are so try hard and cringy that they take me out of it. Felt that way then, and still do. Also, Mike "figuring it out" for less than an hour, better than most people learning it from tabliture for a month. Always impressed.
I"m a player of 30 years . I never found vitos solos super hard really...I never thought of him as a virtuoso and it doesn't surprise me you figured this out so quickly. Personally I think he's got some CC deville/ kirk hammet vibes in technical proficiency. With that said and I can't believe I"M saying that because Vito is my favorite player his solos are the best. They're thought out intelligently and super beautiful / melodic, but I don't think of VIto as some crazy technical player. He's simply brilliant in terms of how he structured his solos. They're a beautiful song within a song and his rhythms were equally as impressive in terms of structure too. He just took the time to think the shit out unlike a guy like yngwie whose constant improvisation gets boring and stale. . Vitos solos are timeless because he thought them out

Even according to Vito now he doesn't remember how to play the song LOL
I've loved this solo since I've heard it in the 80s.
This should give people greater appreciation for Brad Gillis having to learn something like 19 complete songs in a few days to take over for Randy Rhoads.
Mike, Awesome! 👍👍Thank you for keeping Vito's and White Lion music alive! 👍👍🎸🎸🙏🙏
I guess I was too late in telling you about this video. lol
Vito was one of the all-time great soloists, technically advanced but with a real gift for melody. You're brave to learn his music, let alone in just an hour!
Vito is one of the Kings, a lot of people took his playing for granted but man that guy had some incredible leads.
What's cool is everyone forgot about him during the grunge and nu metal years, but sll that stuff had a resurgence
He gets mentioned plenty amongst 80s guys, he’s got his fans and is not overlooked
No doubt, wish we had gotten more from him too. Just amazing playing!
Really good. Vito is one of those players who the average listener can't appreciate as much. Vito was so crazy good. I love his melodies and phrasing. My personal favorite 80s guitarist.
Great, great video. If you’re anything like me, if you get anywhere close to knowing a tough solo, I don’t try to get it perfect on the first sitting. I’ll sleep on it and the next day I’m usually much, much closer to nailing the piece and can work out any kinks at that point.

Was he using his whammy them? I remember him saying he got rid of it because he would go to grab it too much
I remember my guitar teacher learning this to play with his band in high school. ‘85-‘88.
You remind me a lot of him. Dave Kahler.
You actually had ‘learned’ it at 38mins.
Thanks!

Awesome job!
Vito was so talented man,he just stood out.
How Have I never heard of Vita Bratto. That’s a fantastically structured solo.
Now your duty is to spread the word my friend ;-) Vito's underrated, though he's one of the most fantasy guy out there.
@@pizzafreddaVito rules.
This and the Tell Me solo are really fun to play. Bratta gets overlooked
"Showtime Synergy!" Ha-ha. Bonus points for the Jem and The Holograms shirt! even though only those of us of a certain vintage may recognize it. (I'm not old. You're old. :) )

A true modern classic that is fun to play and always a challenge. Come back Vito!
Vito was an excellent guitarist....almost sounding like a violinist while playing. Very talented and expressive!
Very nice! I took it upon myself to learn this a while ago. Now it's one of my warmup routines along with wait and radar love. Definitely took me more than an hour... I'd say its taken 10 years and counting!

That’s awesome. Great song. Still have the 45 in my collection
Love his solos!! Goin’ home tonight is my fav.
We need a Chris Poland technique video please 🙏
Great video, bro! That's a really hard solo, not that there are easy Vito solos, lol. I'm learning BLS' Stillborn solo while watching, making some progress. Have a great day!
Very impressive, Bravo! Or should I say Bratta?!
Thats bad ass dude! Vito 👌🏻
Ideal combination of flash technique and great melody
You're one badass dude, Mike! Give yourself a week, and you'll have this nailed better than Vito himself! I tried really hard to do the 'Wait' solo, and I could never get it down. I practiced it for months. I just eventually had to tap out. I could not get all of the nuances and tapping down cleanly. It always sounded sloppy.
Love the pun: "I had to tap out." :)
@@TheArtofGuitar I knew you would catch that!
Vito was a killer player. Wish he would come out of exile to play again. WL had some banger albums and tunes!
Vito was one bad mofo. Good job wading through it. That solo is changing keys and fast as hell and you did great.

Really cool video!
I saw a kid band called high and dry cover ozzy and soad good for fix this band segment
Really cool! As a coincidence I uploaded an isolated track of this solo on my channel a few days ago. So good!
Good god VITO was gifted.
Knowing fully I will probably never be able to play this, I found a slight joy in watching you choke. Vito is a special player, I wish he had been able to continue his legacy, thanks for highlighting such a great solo.
Impressive! 🤯👍 I love the solo to "Don't say it's over" 😃
Cool! Love Vito!
First time listening to this masterpiece 👌
Ben Eller does a great take on it, as well. Check out the solo in another one of their songs called "Wait". It's another modern classic and right of passage for any would be shredders.
Well done! I enjoyed watching your learning process and how it came out
Amazing job ✌️😵💫
Excellent job!! Vito is still one of my favs! Now do some Lynch!
You are actually really good at guitar :D
Sad that Vito hasn't been active in many years . I like to still hear his unique style and genius musical talent.❤

One of the greatest guitar solos of all time
Oh yea, been there…this one is a finger twister…took me about a month, on and off…well done Mike👍
Great effort man! Vito was a beast! You came very close relatively fast, I think the last phrase was lacking a note b/f the tap, but what do I know? I have been attempting this solo for years.
I jumped ahead to 1:04! VERY IMPRESSIVE, guitar boy!!
Do you warm up everytime before you play? Love the channel and appreciate the content
I gotta get back to learning this solo, arguably his best solo on record.
You did great man!

Do the Bleed the Freak solo like this
Just being able to play it is impressive. Trying to do it in an hour is really tense
i think the only one "simple" solo from white lion is from till death do us a part
Really good ear to be able to pull it off in this amount of time
Itd take me about triple this long lol
Of course, this means you have to do the solo for "Wait" next.....Good luck! :)
You get a Gold Star.
I really want a Tramp Stamp.. hehe.
@@TheArtofGuitar I see what you did there, Mike Tramp, White Lion...very good punmaster.
What string are you using Mike?
This song is played with a Transtrem putting it up F#
Yep, but not doing that. hehe
You did an awesome job figuring it out . This solo is probably as close to perfection as one could get, Vito exudes pure joy for the instrument here.
Dang it Vito
Portnoy learning 'Pneuma' is an epic video.
🎶👍🎵💕
How strong is your music theory? Seems like you were struggling to find notes in the key. Anyway, well done on a one hour blitz!

I agree. I've commented on so many Vito videos saying how other players fabricate their solos, but Vito designed his. He's a damned Guitarchitect.
I don’t know if you agree with this, but I look at David Gilmour in the same way
Your nuts. He's a virtuous. Harder to play for me than eddie yngwie or randy
If you're not playing this on a headless guitar, are you really playing it? Lol.
