At first you listen to the lick in the exercise and think, it's not difficult and then you take a look a closer look at how you're supposed to change lead fingers throughout the riff. Then you realize, holy h*ll it's not easy 😀
the real lesson hidden behind the pattern. 👌

Instead of a metronome, I use several 5-minute-long drum loops with slowly increasing tempo - like 10 - 20 bpm over those 5 minutes. I have 4/4 and 3/4, but it can easily created in a DAW using automation to achieve a steeper or flatter curve. I always start really slow, but the speed increases quite fast. So, when I start making mistakes I rewind the file a little and start over. This way, I can seamlessly gain speed without stopping to tune the metronome. I can recommend that. On the first day, I start with the first file, and after some time, I get to the third one, which I am not able to finish. The next day, I start with the second and usually get to the fourth ... etc. It is much more natural to increase the speed continuously instead of stopping and jumping. I got those files from my guitar teacher some 20 years ago and still use them.

Another brilliant lesson. Deceptively simple, yet very effective. I love exercises like this. They get your fingers moving efficiently while helping cement a scale into your ears' "muscle memory". Chromatic, one finger per fret, patterns may help your technique but they aren't very "musical".

Using this middle finger root note technique, I am alternating between the G and B strings still playing notes from the key of Em and alternating between the 2 strings and moving forward and backwards playing 1 lick on the G string then the B string lick starting at the beginning then moving forward up the fretboard repeating the patterns and its helping with memorization of where the notes and positions/patterns from the key of Em are. Once I get them faster and cleaner, I will be adding more strings. Like you said, do this on other strings. You could also do this with Dm and Bm etc. Killer exercise brother.
