    Is there a vacuum in the crankcase when the car is running any you take off the oil cap?

  • @fcbotieno
    @fcbotieno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A sometimes unnoticed remedy of having the catch can on the hot side of the air system is oil suction directly from the valve cover. This is what causes oil in the intercooler. When in boost especially hard left corning the turbo sucks in oil from the valve cover via the crankcase pipe that goes to the side of the turbo inlet.

    How the pcv works on th B7, when idle, in a vacuum state, the pistons suck air(through air intake system) and crankcase vapors through the diaphragm valve(pcv) atop the valve cover into the intake manifold.
    When in boost, the diaphragm closes off the intake manifold side and crankcase vapors get routed and sucked through the turbo inlet via the the flex aluminum crankcase vent pipe which connects to the valve cover.
    As you can imagine, having the turbo in boost sucking in all that air under high pressure, it will suck small amounts of oil as well, very little at a time, but ALL the time in boost so it adds up. Low oil levels because the oil is going into the intake system, pooling in the intercoolers and then burnt in the engine out the exhaust.

    • @Chamo-zh1co
      @Chamo-zh1co 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So permanently closing air travel in between crankcase and intake manifold wouldn't that choke idling or in longer period of time even blow rear main seal?

    • @fcbotieno
      @fcbotieno 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chamo-zh1co yes exactly. Although from experience the turbo seals will give before the main seals. When the turbo seals get compromised, you will see oil smoke out the exhaust at idle(and all other rpms, just very noticeable especially at idle).
      The oil return from the turbo to crankcase, returns by gravity only, so when there is back pressure from blocking all the crank pressure, the crank pressure blocks the turbo oil return line forcing the oil through the turbo seals, and then out the exhaust as ALOT of smoke.

    • @fcbotieno
      @fcbotieno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chamo-zh1co the idle itself won't suffer per say, but the crank pressure will not be adequately relieved. This is what will blow seals in the long run.
      Running blocker plates and catch cans is a delicate setup that has to take alot of scenarios into account.

  • @Chamo-zh1co
    @Chamo-zh1co 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Installing oil catch can is fine like you did but undersized hose diameter and blocking lines from crankcase to intake manifold possibly can blow rear main seal isn't that true?

    Hi I had a audi a4 b7 2.0tfsi same as your red audi. Can you tell me the advantage of pcv delete with catch can installed, and dis advantage. Engine, turbo and oil consumption.? Do youb recommend this to make engine better and last longer. Some youtube vloger not to advice pcv delete and catch can, some would recommend, so which is better?

    • @fcbotieno
      @fcbotieno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its best to supplement the oem system. Meaning leave the pcv on, and put two catch cans on either side. In between the valve cover and turbo as in the video, as well as in between the pcv and the intake manifold.

    • @fcbotieno
      @fcbotieno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aydendeuchant9165 same concept as the other side. Pcv to catch can, catch can to intake manifold.
      Where the other side would be valve cover to catch can, catch can to turbo inlet.

  • @bike23august

    The reason why the cstch can only catches water is bcs the catch can doesn't work 100% its actually useless.. i ran on my 2.0 tfsi 2 catchcans and still you can see the line going back to intake is oily inside .. i run them vent to atmosphere and i block the intake side. Thats the only way you know the oil doesn't go back to intake

    • @fcbotieno
      @fcbotieno 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you vent under your hood? This will get sucked into the cabin air system and you'll be smelling exhaust fumes inside the car particularly while at stand still.
      A good vent to atmosphere idea would be to route both pcv side(after blocking off the intake manifold end) and turbo inlet side(after blocking off the small opening at back off the turbo the inlet) into a small pipe welded into the exhaust system at exactly 45°. The angle follows air flow principles where it will not allow exhaust flowing back up the pipe into the crankcase. This is further supplemented the faster the exhaust rushes by, it creates a vacuum sucking the crankcase gases out.
