Wise words on watering down the “special year” sovereigns🙆♂️. Still can’t beat the color of the older sovs.😍. Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas 🎅.
I fall into the I don't care, lowest spot price possible, CGT exempt category. I never look at anything I've bought after initially checking the order.
If I'm going to spend a bunch of money on a gold sovereign, I want it to have the color of gold. Not a copper round. I'm looking forward to 2026 when they switch back, and I'll be a buyer again.
I wouldn't mind some of the newer Sovereigns but not a fan of the Rose Gold. Personally, I also really like the history of the older coins. Oldest one I have is from 1850, the Samurai were still around. But if I have a choice between old gold and new gold and the price is the same. I'll take old gold every day.
Nice video mate! Personally I prefer the older style colour so looking forward to what the mint come up with for the 2026 version. Currently waiting on 2 x mixed dates full and 2 x half mixed dates sovereigns rocking up from Atkinsons! Merry Christmas 👍
The other point about the older sovs is being able to assign the 'collector' label to yourself for official means. I was looking to grab myself one for xmas but Chards have some real good deals on the 1/4 Tudor Beasts atm (not much more than a sov) so grabbed a Bull for the collection instead.
I have just started my sovereign journey of collecting last month so excuse my ignorance. Being a novice I tentatively bought some quarter sovereigns (2017) and some Hatton war 1/4 sovereigns. Any views/advice from Folk would be fully welcomed. Thanks in advance.
I bought the 2025 proof and the George IV where this year’s design came from. I do think this years special sovereign in pretty good because they’re pretty limited in mintage vs the coronation, platinum jubilee and memorial. The 1826 coin I got in that set is a beautiful gold colour it’s a shame the rose gold on the proof, I’m glad they’re changing but hope no special design again.
@@JamieSmithlovesJesus Yes, that was a cool set. So they gave you a nice example (within reason of course), good to hear. Something people do moan about.
I might sound like a sovereign snob for this, but I like sovs that were in circulation, pre-elizabeth, although gillicks are nice coins, the copper ones are too shiny like a proof, they don't seem to have any lustre, I don't seem to mind paying a few % above spot for something that ticks all the boxes of what I think makes a quality gold coin
Old coin is better, full of history, culture. I always like the feeling that I'm holding a gold coin that has been changing countless hands in the past.
Nice video ty:) I'm going have to save a few months but I want to get the 2024 or 2025 double sovereign and after save for the new type as a double sovereign (2026) as these seem like a neat coin in hand to own (my only sovereign is a copper color normal one:). And after that a 1 and 4 ducat they seem cool too:) Have a nice Christmas time Sovereign Saurus and everyone🙂
I have a Britannia and he has a big hat on his head that looks like a crown. Did you not watch the coronation ? Its all part of the ceremony being crowned.

Merry Xmas mate

ABSOLUTELY fully agree with you, me too👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It might well be the best stacking strategy 👍🏼

Also, not that shiny thing…instead the matte finish of the old traditional sovereigns and with the streamer in the helmet of St. George!
Technically the king is the front of the coin. Nice coins, I love your videos! 👍
Correct yes. Thanks for pointing out

I just got 10 (mixed dates) halves with Charly and 2024 on them.
Silly me.
Regards
@ blimey, that’s not exactly mixed 😅 I’ll let you know what I land! Cheers 👍
@@davidfarmer9118 1894 & 1907 half. 1892 & 1911 full 👍
They did 2025 St George proofs as well. Just to really squeeze the wallet if the completist.
Thank you I completely missed that

Yep, just bought 5 of them from Chards at best current price anywhere for that Tudor Beast coin😊😊
The '26 needs to be matte or silk finish as well like the old-school ones.
Yes they could still make a mess of it, let's hope
YELLOW GOLD YES!!!!!
🙏🏼
It looks like a proof coin. I like the screw top capsule
Yeah the capsules are pretty fancy, bit bulkier. The proof are more reflective. You'd be able to see them apart together
Hopefully the new gold sovs won't have the polished looking reflective background. Just like the older ones is the go.
Yeah they could still mess it up 🤣
Modern sovereigns and krugers are the same alloy and they are both very red compared to eagles.
It dont really matter sovereigns are sovereigns

It's a beautiful coin, Have mine. I was going to buy more but I decided this month to put more into the S&P 500, but will def buy January.
Got my first non rose gold Sov last week. 1891, haven't looked for a mint mark, have to do that.

Im thinking of swapping a 58 elizabeth normal sovereign for the 2025 proof shield half sov. Bad idea? 😅
I would keep the full sov if it was me

Last of the Rose gold sovereigns (for now) 😁
Yeah I wonder what will be the next "twist" they come up with
buy what you like ... the platinum jubilee for me was special ,the coronation again special the rest not so much

I've been reading both bullish and bearish predictions for gold in 2025. What's your forecast?
Nobody knows mate its like predicting the stock market
I'm very confused by that 2025 sovereign. It's not lustrous. It has proof/mirrored fields. How is it not a proof?
I’m guessing you’ve never seen a proof sovereign? The finish is obviously bullion standard

Charles was not crowned. That?
Is why he Does it not have Have one.
I have a Britannia and he has a big hat on his head that looks like a crown. Did you not watch the coronation ? Its all part of the ceremony being crowned.
He was very much crowned. I watched the bishop put the circular gold thing on his head.
