I bought a shift kit that goes to the shifter for 8bucks off of eBay took ten minutes to put in. It replaces the broken parts you needed.

The plastic button on my shifter broke, and every mechanic I went to said they would have to replace the whole apparatus like you're doing in this video. They all wanted to charge between $700 - $900 for the work. So I went to the local Walgreens, bought a roll of electrical tape for $5, and wrapped it around that broken button. Works as good as new.

YES!! When it comes to interior work, I ALWAYS wear gloves!! I tell people all the time, I handle grease, outdoor grime, and fluids with or without gloves, but people's dirt inside... totally skeeves me! Spilled drinks, mold, fuzzy food, etc. ... yeah, it all freaks me out. Heck, I'd handle bugs bare handed, before that funk too.

Ok Eric, I hope you read this.. 3 months ago, I had a neighbor w a 13 Sonic that wouldn't release the key when in park. It was out of factory warranty and it was also due for the recall on the ignition sw.. So we scheduled that BUT told them of the complaint of the key stuck in the cylinder. They said that the car would get new keys and would be reprogrammed, and that should do it. Low and behold, she got a call from Chevy saying that there was a problem with the module in the shifter assembly, that wasn't covered, and the cost of the repair was $ 486.00... Now I checked the trans module data for gear selection, and it said the correct PRNDL ranges. Chevy said that it needed the shifter as well as a recalibration for that new unit... Whatever they did, it did fix it, but I sure wish I'd seen your vid before we sent it there.

In order to replace the oxygen sensors on a 98 Ford Explorer you have to remove the center column to access the access panel for the connectors. That requires sitting in the back seat and grabbing the center column with both hands and pulling back towards you as hard as you can with all your weight. Then you get to remove the front passenger seat and push the front carpet over to the driver's side. Going back in is just as much fun.

Bought a new used car. Had to take my 2015 Kia soul to the dealership for inspection on a factory recall. Just so happened that morning I had flat tire. So I paid for an oil change and flat repair when I brought it in. They vacuum your car out when they do an oil change. My car only had gravel on the floor mats from my driveway. I'm not perfect but I'll will clean my car before taking it to a shop.
Used to do my own oil changes but the cost is about equal to paying someone to do it. I had the oil changed due to the fact I have no idea when it was last done. Friday buying a cabin filter.

One was talk to us viewers about what you were doing AND two was remember what you had to do next. I remembered that you had to put the screw in before snapping the cover on, but I wasn't distracted! That forgetting of what you had in mind before you began to talk gets worse slowly. 18:16 I did my research cause the VERY same thing happened to me. They purposely make the park so that it’s a lot of tension on the button eventually the button breaks and you have to take it to a shop I did and the part plus labor was over $600 I wasn’t having that. So I brought the part $80 and paid the man for half an hour of work and it took u less than 10 min to get it apart. So now that I’ve watched your video I hope to replace my own and share it with you ✊🏽

I learned to leave the keys in, ignition on and shifter in some gear, pull "starter relay" and most obvious chock the wheels. nothing like cycling the igntion and shifter 999 times.....
if it's going to take long, add charger/maintainer.

Must be one of those days. I put a new feed line on our TV antenna, 30 feet up and the roof is steep. My shins were burning at the end of the day I kept forgetting to bring things up with me.

I guess i shouldn't be shocked to see that you have to buy the WHOLE ASSEMBLY instead of just the switch that you need. $163.00 for that assembly is too high for me. I would have went to a pick and pull yard and got one for $20.00. Nice that the upper dash controls didn't have to come out to change the shifter. Great video.

    • @aussiebloke609
      @aussiebloke609 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Not only that, but $163 for a part made by Daewoo - since they're owned by GM since '01. Just imagine the "quality" - if that's the word. :-P

Maybe I'm missing something here, but all you needed to do was remove the top of the shifter and replace broken button with a replacment kit for less than $15! Now I see why some garages were charging there customers tons of money!

I'm assuming that vacuum pump is for when there is a lack of vacuum due to the turbo? That is if it is the 1.4 turbo. My cruze has the same pump that runs if I hit the brakes more than once or twice like in traffic or at a drive through.

    Eric,
Thank you for this video. Its hard to believe a broken shifter like that on only a 5 year old car. See what happens when 'actors' own these things - it would never happen to 'real people'. Curious how much that part was from GM.
    SMA#1
    God bless
    Paul
ps that stuff inside the shifter was the 'real people' liquid. And VW has had that kind of key for 20 years.
