  • Winter time is often flatter seas time as well. The Eastern Blue Groper is a residental species but most often fished for in the winter months. They can be caught every month f the year but generally targeted in the cooler months. I hooked this big blue of 10-11kg which took a decent run. The running ball sinker slid up the line and over the FG and leader join. When I tried to wind back the last few metres I coud not do it because the sinker was stuck! If you wndered why I had such a long length of line from the rod top to the fish it was because i could not wind on any more line.
    It was fantastic landing this big blue and then releasing it.

    I'm a spearo and I can assure you there are big grouper at every spot in Sydney some times seems they out number all the other reef species

  • @TrailerYacht

    Its amazing how common these big blueys are now. I'm a scuba diver we see them all the time in these spots. They are extremely common now. If you turn a sea urchin over for a groper, you'll have a new friend for life !

    • @lauchlanguddy1004
      @lauchlanguddy1004 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes plenty now but spearing nearly extincted them in the 60's

      @@lauchlanguddy1004 - SPEARFISHING caused the population to crash. Once SPEARFISHING for groper was banned, the population rapidly rebounded and they're abundant now. Put on a mask and have a look for yourself. Perfectly legal to LINEFISH for them and invite one home for dinner if you want. Don't feel guilty about it. They are not endangered or threatened any more.

    Hello Alex.I use the blackfish rubber stoppers between my fg and hook knot so my sinker just runs between them ..Cheap and stops sinker doing that.Large and x large sizes suit most line classes.stm tackle.cheers

    When you've pulled your umpteenth fish out the water and dragged it across rocks and man handled it for a photo, do you ever think "what the fuck am I doing?" 😂

    nice fish. and good job on an eggbeater. Knew blokes who would target them. got them double size but with an alvey, 80 and a broom handle. These were strong guys and they really worked for their fish.

    Good on ya Alex. I’ve never caught a big Blue and probably never will. It’s rare for me to throw back a good fish, but I think if I caught a Blue like that I’d let it swim another day - beautiful fish 👍🏻

    Not sure about putting it in that first pond... Looked like it would have been way warmer than the sea...but great work for releasing it.

    It concerns me when I catch blues that their guts protude at least 60mm out the butthole sometimes I catch 7 blues a session rarely but occasionally so I just want them to survive and I'm land based so I don't think it's barotrauma I'm on the east coast down south

    • @mawfish1
      @mawfish1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hope you're reconsidering now the ban has come in. Damaging six blues in a session is pretty off.

  • @lauchlanguddy1004

    yes no net, removes scales and slime, not good for survival.

      @@AlexBellissimo Do you trust this Minister. . . Canned grouper with the stroke of a pen. . . No science, no stock analysis. . . NOTHING. . . . . Only 4600 signatures on a website is all it took
      If she deams that rock fishing is too much of a risk to grouper stocks IT IS ALL OVER.

    Where i catch squid i sometimes see them swim past on the the ledge very early mornings and calm conditions never fished for them.
