    Best video so far on the nitty gritty of starting snappies by seed. I love that you got to the point without a lot of fluff of unimportant talk. I like that you pointed out the lighting situation and avoiding leggy seedlings. When to pinch them off. I found you knowledgeable and articulate. Thanks for pointing out difference of using potting soil vs seed starting soil and the water requirement. Temp. requirement. etc. Thank you very much.

    Thank you! Now I know why some of my snapdragons were bent. This year, I'll do a better job of corralling them. I did want to say that I've been doing the dry to wet bottom watering thing using seed starting mix and it has worked fine as far as I can tell. I mean, I may yet lose all my seedlings, but they are ok so far. Snapdragons are super easy to root. If you wait to pinch them until they are a little bigger, you can root the pinched part and have twice the snapdragons.

    This year I put my snap seeds in the fridge and they did germinate better. I will definitely experiment more with chilling seeds. I have been gardening for about 5 years so I am still learning. I live a couple hours east of you so I am always curious to how your plants do. Lol. I have started costa summer lavender 3, madam butterfly bronze with white, Potomac apple blossom & Potomac royal. I love snapdragons!

    Thank you again. I had an early bloom from a volunteer snapdragon and allowed a couple of stalks to go to seed. Took those seeds last week and seeded them and they already germinated. So exciting. Absolutely love snaps. Looking forward to your seedling update. Cause I make sure that I am on the right track with mine.

    Thank you so much for this video! I am hoping to do snapdragons this year and now I know I need to start the seed ASAP!! I am finding your videos very interesting because I live in North TX, zone 7b/8a, closer to Wichita Falls than DFW. I think our zones are similar for growing many plants, though my area is more arid, and the soil is slightly alkaline. I did want to say regarding "cold stratification," I understand now, stratification requires moisture. Seeds stored in a fridge are not being cold stratified unless they are in contact with a moist medium, such as in a wet paper towel or some damp sand, starting mix or potting soil. If that's wrong please let me know. I do store my all my seeds in a refrigerator year round trying to get them to last longer. Thank you again! I will be watching!

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes adding moisture helps especially if your fridge is very dry!

    Excellent content. I didn't know about the different types of snapdragons and different growing conditions. Last winter I tried snapdragons from seed using the outdoor winter sowing method (zone 7b). They took a long time to germinate and weren't ready to plant in garden untilheat of the summer. They survived the summer and in fall I got a few blooms. I left them in over the winter and now they look very robust. Hoping I get some flowers. Don't have any idea what variety they were but after watching your video I think I would do best with the fall planted varieties.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
