In this video, I take you through a day in the life with my three high-energy working line dogs-a German Shepherd, a Malinois, and a Labrador. We start our day with a 45-minute off-leash morning exploration walk, followed by a 15-minute chuck-it session to keep my dogs fit and mentally sharp. I also show you how I use Ruff Dawg toys and Petcot dog beds for their rest breaks in the backyard, along with some of my favorite dog food brands like Honest Kitchen and Steve’s Raw for their meals.
I’ll walk you through our obedience training sessions, where I use N&D Maxi Giant kibble as rewards, and dive into our tug and bitework training. You'll see how I incorporate different tools like tug toys, bite wedges, and frisbees to keep my dogs engaged, agile, and focused.
Towards the end of the video, we move into frisbee training, emphasizing the importance of mixing in simple obedience commands to maintain their focus even during play. I'll also discuss how these activities help keep them in top physical and mental condition.
If you're interested in learning more about dog training, check out my full 5.5-hour course on Sit Stay Learn, covering everything from basic to advanced training techniques.
Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed the video, can you do me a big favor and hit the like button? Cheers! 😊
Nate is a great trainer, and those dogs you own live a life fulfilled. I only have 1/2 hour a day of vigorous play m-f. Saturdays and Sundays about 1 1/2 hours.
Thanks, I appreciate it. 1/2 hour a day is better than what most people do. And an hour and a half on the weekends is great. Thanks for sharing! 😁
I try to do exactly what Nate taught me with great results. I'm waiting for his school in Florida.
Thanks! :)
Yay! A new video from you is always a treat! Maverick has gotten so big :) It's pretty cool to see your dogs having fun and getting a ton of exercise. Love your dedication to your pups and to teaching us how to do the same.
@@moonchild1710 Thanks! Yeah, Maverick grew so fast and he’s still growing. He’s a really nice pup! 😁
My working dog gets an half hour to two hour long walk each morning. These walks include on leash time, off leash time, fetch, sometimes tug, and always food training stuff with whatever is needed that walk. She then gets a morning meal after about a ten thru thirty min cool down from the walk. She often gets another play or training session mid day if we can fit it in. She then has rest until after the human dinner time where she gets an evening structured shorter walk and then a training session back at the house. Or occasionally training on the walk. Then an evening meal and chill time after that.
Our older dog has basically the same schedule but walks are shorter, always on leash, and less structured. And she doesn’t get play or training factored in to her day ever cause all she wants to do is sleep.
Another excellent schedule. That’s exactly what a working dog needs. 😁
Thanks for the vid, dude. I've learnt a heck of a lot from you so far.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching and commenting. It’s truly appreciated. 😁
@@NateSchoemer Best channel on you tube.
I'm at the luring phase now. The trickiest thing I'm finding is that my 9 week old isn't that motivated by kibble, so I need to use higher value treats. Problem is, he'll get too used to that and not respond at all to kibble. Also, it's not good for his health to eat those fatty treats! 😄 How to find the right balance?
Nice video. I’m kinda all over the place as a trainer. This will help remind me that I need a routine thanks
Thank you! 😁
I'm going to be posting my morning routine whenever I get to work lol I was trying to find some new videos this morning this one was a good one man
This is awesome!! Thank you for making/posting this video- love it! Excited to incorporate some of this into my dog's day
Thanks! I’m happy you enjoyed the video. 😁
Would love a vlog series, thank you for sharing
@@h1dd3n5h0t5 That’s a good idea. That could be a great way to answers a lot of dog training questions that people have as well. 😁
Great schedule! ❤️💞
Thank you! 😁
Great to see your daily routine. Interesting to see that you give the first meal quite late. My dog sometimes is not so food orentied, which makes training difficult. But in my case he's had his first meal already. Will try out the first meal & obedience training combination!
Thanks! Let me know how the change goes. 😁
Love your routine and dedication to your pups. Some might think your dedication stems from your profession. But I would say your dedication stems from your love of dogs, passion in the training and sharing your knowledge.
Our routine starts after ours' and their breakfast and I have showered. That is the cue for "grooming time". I groom both dogs, my husband's WL German Shepherd, Ilita age 3, and my Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Rusty, age 2.5 yrs. My husband trains his dog and I train mine. So after grooming, Rusty and I have his session in the house. He has his Advanced Trick Dog title and so we are working on Expert level now.
After this is their morning walk around our property of 20 acres so lots of room to run, play or investigate. This is off leash although they are conditioned to e-collars in the advent of some untoward circumstance occurs, although their recall is superb. They have an evening walk as well which is pretty much the same. Either walk can have obedience thrown in at random.
If it is a work day for us, they accompany us on our jobs taking advantage of the down time to have a morning nap in the truck unless the neighborhood seems to be needing vigilance.
Afternoons are varied in that Ilita will go with my husband on whatever he is doing, everything from wood splitting to snow removal.
Rusty stays with me doing whatever be it gardening or outdoor tasks in good weather, taking an extended nap if I am doing housework or office work inside.
We are blessed that both dogs have wonderful "off switches" and are perfectly content to rest until and whenever we are up and going again.
If we have errands in town, they go with us. We will take them into any stores which allow dogs and they have become wonderful ambassadors demonstrating the positive power of training. To anyone asking I ALWAYS recommend Nate Schoemer. Rusty and I have worked with Nate now close to 2 years and we have the wonderful dogs we have today due to his training and encouragement.
Thank you! Love hearing about your routine with Ilita and Rusty-they’re so lucky to have such a dedicated team! You’ve both come so far, and it’s awesome seeing the bond you’ve built and all the training you’ve done.
And I really appreciate the shout-out! It’s been a pleasure working with you and Rusty these past couple of years. Keep up the amazing work-you’re both inspiring!
3:29 I laughed so hard 🤣😂🤣😂

Yesss been waiting for a vid like thisss 🔥
@@TrickDogLucy-19 Thanks! I hope you enjoyed it. 😁
they have an amazing life
I usually take my dog for an 1 hour walk in the morning, then some structured play/ tugging in the midday/afternoon and a 20-30 minute night walk before we sleep. 1 day a week i switch the 1 hour walk to 30 minute walk and 1-1.5 hours at the dog park. I go at hours where there is max 1-2 small dogs in so no issues usually.
That’s excellent. What breed is your dog?
@@NateSchoemer I have a working line labrador mixed probably with border collie. Thank you for asking! 😁
@@The.Vikingr That’s a great combo. I bet your dog’s a lot of fun to train and work with. I appreciate you sharing as well. Cheers!
Hey Nate! Just wanted to thank you for all your incredible content - your guidance has truly helped me train dogs from scratch! Your tips have been a game changer in my work. I was wondering if there’s any way to connect even more, maybe through online classes or other ways to talk to you directly? Would love to learn more from you!

3 walks aday betwen 10-12 miles in total for a fully grown GSD. First meal is in the track around 9-10 am, next meal are treats in the obedience training, early evening. So actually no food in the bowl at home at all. In betwen all that he is chilling and just hanging out and around in the yard.
You have a GSD, a BM and a ?? He seems so nice and eager to train! :)
That’s an excellent schedule. Are you tracking for fun or you preparing for competition?
The red dog is a fox red British lab. 🐶
@@NateSchoemer Call it what ever you like. :) - I call it engaging with my best buddy. I've been competing for the fun of it for the last 40 odd years and hope to continue with that to the end of days.
Very interesting to see a red labrador, I've never seen one before, but he looks very nice and keen.
Amazing video thank you. ❤
Can you please do a new video on your markers. I've noticed you've changed your yes marker to terminal marker
Amazing and so inspiring. I have 2 dogs, so out of curiosity what are your other dogs doing when you’re working with one? Long sit, on a leash, crated? I know this prob depends if you’re working at home or in a public space. Love all of your info! Thank you
Also do you have any videos about resource guarding or dominance behaviors and training for that?
Do you let your dogs play tug o war with one another?
Is that Maverick from the earlier videos?😊
Is the first off leash walk in the morning on your property or do you take them somewhere else to run and play fetch?
It’s a field down the street from my house. Maybe one day I’ll have a yard that big for the dogs. 😁
Missing you.
I know I’ve been slacking on posting content, but hopefully, I can start getting more videos up soon. What did you think of the course From Novice to Pro: The Ultimate Guide to Dog Training? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers!
@@NateSchoemer It's awesome. I rated it and left a comment for you. Hope Maverick is doing good.
hey Nate, gorgeous dogs. do you offer any form of in person apprenticeship or shadow program for aspiring trainers?
Thanks! I'm in the middle of moving right now, but once I’m settled in-depending on when our house sells-I plan to take on a few new apprentices. 😁
Where can I find the new training videos you mention?

Nate, would the course you highlight in this video go in depth about what to do when training and building a dog for PSA? Or is it more geared towards pet dog obedience? I'd love to see the names of the modules before purchasing to at least know what I'm getting myself into haha
@@LimitlessJayson Thanks! It’s not specific to PSA. You can see what’s in the course by clicking on the link in the description. Plus, there’s a 30 day money back guarantee. 😁

Is advisable to do any exercise after having food... Food/Treats they ate during obedience training?
Yea, you don’t want to exercise your dog right after eating. 1-2 hour break is recommended. My dogs get about a 55-minute to an hour break before exercise after obedience training. Since I train each dog individually for obedience and the following exercise, the time between sessions naturally provides a sufficient rest period. Here’s an example:
- Arih’s training: 10 minutes
- Switching dogs: 5 minutes
- Charlie’s training: 10 minutes
- Switching dogs: 5 minutes
- Maverick’s training: 10 minutes
- Prepping for the next activity and traveling to the new location: 20-25 minutes
By the time I start bite-work training with Arih, she’s already had about 55 minutes to an hour of rest since her obedience session.
Where did you buy your Kong? Thanks

Glad you found the link. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
Damn makes me feel like my dog doesn't get enough even though I well know he is LOL
WLGSD 7mo, he gets 2 club training sessions including bitework a week
Daily he gets 3 5min food training sessions, 1-2 confidence building sessions w/ toy & maybe we'll practice some OB in a pet friendly store.. Some days he runs around for 30 minutes with his Jolly ball.. But he gets multiple hours of breaks in between most of this stuff lol i can't imagine going back to back to back to back
Sounds like your pup has an awesome schedule. I only do the back to back, because that’s what my schedule currently allows. We work with what we have. 😁
😍
Your black dog is a German Shepherd, correct? What type of German Shepherd? We have a rescue puppy who’s mom was part German Shepherd and his color pattern is like your black dog
