Love playing X Sonic despite not being good with him. He feels like a character with limitless potential that's only held back by your own skill. That, and he's got a lot of fun quirks and animation details, like being able to punt other players in co-op with his kick, or the special animation that plays when you fall from a high height without inputting another move. I think it'd be cool to see a whole level pack with levels designed specifically around X Sonic's moveset, cause I do feel like there are some levels (both fan-made and built-in) that work against his moveset a bit.
Great video, and glad to see someone being a little more in line with my own thoughts on X-Sonic (clearly very good, but seems like a bit much for me). I especially liked that map section in Black Core, I was a little disappointed you didn't have them for the other two stages. Also obviously I am not the algorithm, but I personally would not mind you using characters you like better for part 2, or if you do more of these.
The map was a pain to edit, because Premiere slowed to a crawl and constantly crashed when doing them. I was conscious about releasing this video within a strict timeframe, seeing as I'm about to go on vacation for a week. But yeah, I liked the idea of this (and looking at how quickly the views are going up on this, clearly other people do too!), so I'll definitely look at doing more of this after X Sonic!
i think this video shows, unintentionally, what makes x sonic so fun as a speedrun character. to go fast as him, you need to have aim, and it's relatively grounded compared to other characters. these are the same fundamentals as vanilla sonic, so it ends up making him a version of vanilla sonic that may be more intuitive and may be able to get better times, but is just as "balanced" (but it also shows why the thok doesn't work as well with automatic mode, and by proxy the zip dash)
Nice Runs! On Black Core zone, At the lava part There is a way to not use the gravity invert machine (Using wall runs, or any other way idk) and if you get enough speed, you can jump on one of those flying platforms without using a ring burst or having to jump on the lava.
This was a really fun change of pace. Speedrunning progression could be a really fun series to add to your channel... especially with characters you don't hate...
Honestly surprised u found him this hard to use. Haven’t played srb2 in like half a year and he felt really natural to use with a bit of a learning curve the first few zones. This coming from a casual player who has no interest in attempting the best times.
Great work! Seeing someone learning to speedrun is quite inspiring. I also speedrun SRB2 quite often, as well as Sonic Advance 3 (even though I haven't touched that game in a while); they have basically been my go-to speedgames since mid-to-late 2022. I think you did yourself a disservice by choosing Run as one of your levels, because those problems applied to me as well while I was using other characters. I haven't played Sol Sestancia 1 in a while, but I remember Jungle Crash Site and the school level being more enjoyable to speedrun. From another Roger pack, you could have also chosen Angel Island Tour or Angel Island Run. Speaking of Angel Island, Nu Angel Island would have also been a good pick among the most popular speedrun levels for SRB2. I'd like to give you my personal reccommendations for when you come back, which are from rather niche level packs: First, we have Dangeroud Descent from Creative Worlds. Similar to your experience with Run, I had a very hard time grinding this level as X Sonic, but found it confortable, fun even, grinding it with other characters, especially with Xmomentum enabled. At the time of writing, Dangerous Descent is one of two levels I've grinded the most from that pack, due to most of the other levels being too easy to get lost in, or too time-consuming even if the way forward is clear. The other level I've grinded the most from Creative Worlds is Wondrous Windsock Act 1. Use any add-on that enables running on water and you can snap the level in half. The route is easy to practice, even with X Sonic, and runs are satisfying to pull off. And lastly, I reccommend the SRB2 Frontier level pack, which has the most expansive level design I've ever seen from the Message Board. Every level is a playground, even the shorter ones, and finding areas or routes you've missed on your last run through fills you with wonder. On the speedrunning side of things, this level pack made me fall in love with Xmomentum, and I highly reccomend loading it with this pack. Just... stay away from the Press Garden Cyberspace (unless you want to get enough emblems to unlock the secret level). That level is a huge pain, even when playing casually. Sorry for the long comment, but I really wanted to express my excitement for your entrance into speedrunning SRB2, because it can be really fun overall. Sure, there will be mistakes, skill issues, or entire sections or levels that can make you want to quit. However, the experience of learning and routing many of the best levels is very fun and the end result is really satisfying.
I think you'd be struggling less if you used custom one to zip dash so you can move the camera and redirect better. This video is unexpectedly good tho good job
Hey, thank you for using some of my clips in your video! I recommend trying the camera angle Strafe; it helps with zip dashes. You can make near-perfect turns with it. as for Ring burst I still learning how to use that right, so i can't say anything on that lmao Love your videos!
17:57 That's an X Sonic problem, I played SS2 with him for my first time and he gets knocked back by odd stuff such as Metal Sonics bullets which made that fight WAY harder than it actually should've been.
If you want to master X Sonic, you will need to wait a bit before you launch your zipdash, allowing the camera to keep up and being able to aim more easily, aka when you are in your drifting phase. Also play the X pack so thag you can play the x sonic tutorial.
At Sonic is a really fun character but the main issue that I have with the dash is it's not even really it's designed more like the fact that you have two buttons there are map to the same ability and both of them basically do the same thing the buttons are spin and custom one it would have been useful if a custom one actually gave you the ability lock in place and now you can aim whatever Direction you want to hit Dash in if you let go of the custom one button maybe custom one allow you to do something in the air like there is a ridiculous constantly pointing up and down every time it correctly you get some hot and you don't your ground pound into the ground either that or you could give the players to freedom to aim it best part of the ability don't really need to be a thing though just another idea but probably a reason why it's not designed that way all I'm saying is this what made the zip Dash be a bit easier to use actually give the buttons to some diversity instead of both of them doing the same exact thing I kind of wish zip jump was a little bit more responsive understand this build off of momentum where the ability fills a little inconsistent especially when trying to even jump on a wall to begin with let alone trying to Traverse the wall when you need even more speed to pull that off yeah but this is something that could be Master mostly by speedrunners so it may just be a me problem overall that's how I was designed to zip Dash spin button can the same custom one giving you control over it
If you're using a controller, my advice would be to switch to keyboard and mouse. Throughout all my time playing srb2, the thing that contributed most to my performance was making that change. It has a bit of a learning curve but it should save time overall when it comes to reaching the higher skill levels, that is of course if you aren't already at that level on controller. There are some really good controller players like particle as well as a really nice fellow I know personally called "Pierre", but the vast majority of high level srb2 players are on keyboard and mouse. As for maps that I would personally suggest to a beginner, try some of the stuff in "starshy stages", the maps are both decently engaging but also relatively easy.
X Sonic Tutorial (In X Pack) Says That Controller Is Heavily Recommended And Also I Need It To Play I'm A Mobile User And There Is A Bug On My Game That I Can't Move The Camera
So...let me get this straight, you don't like X Sonic and the whole speed-archtype characters because you don't know how to play with him and don't like playing that way? now that's a funny way to say skill issue and saying that you don't like playing sonic in general and judging by your little "review", i presume you haven't seen a SINGLE run of Super Mystic Sonic or even played as him, Because my brother, he is even more chaotic than X Sonic and makes X Sonic be a more friendly version of Super Mystic Sonic Damn...if you don't like the character at ALL just say it, it's not that hard to be honest you know?
I know you didn't intentionally clickbait but I kind of feel like that's what happened because you're not speed running SRB2 except for one level everything else is mods
Your opinion is completely invalid because that's literally every character in srb2 ever, adventure sonic spam the spindash, regular sonic spam the thok, your point makes no sense.

Eh he pretty low skill floor mid skill ceiling imo
SRB2 heroes and its obsession with noclimb walls
Nu angel island is perfect for him

JackalMan's finally goin through his SRB2 speedrun training arc! Your speedruns in this vid are actually really good btw!
i love how much effort you put into your videos, even though you sadly don’t get many views.
Nice Runs!

That is true ngl, he is not easy but not hard to learn,he is fun to play casually, but he has almost limitless potential for speedruns
12:51 msic kicking in right when level is finished just warms my inner perfectionist
