That whole situation really sucks. I've been running 4 quarts of the synchromesh since i put the trans in my car and I haven't heard any weird noises. But I will say that sometimes it REALLY doesn't want to go into reverse
Great info, I have heard that the '01 and '02 models tend to have more issues than the '03 and '04. Also '05+ reportedly requires a lot more work to fit in a Panther. I am trying to decide now what to plan on doing to a used 3650 before putting it in the car. Might just buy a broke one and fix it, always wanted to learn transmissions anyway...
I swapped my 2011 CV LX with a T-45 from a 2000 Mustang GT. My 5th gear is noisy too, I just lived with it. About a month ago I upgraded to an MGW shifter since the cheap Amazon shifter I bought just was not cutting it anymore. Big difference, shifts much better but most importantly it significantly reduced the noise. Gear noise transmits thru the shift lever up into the interior. The MGW shifter must be designed with some sort of isolater to reduce the noise.
I have heard this before. Plus i welded on an extension tube to make the lever even longer, probably making the noise worse and more amplified. Thanks for the feedback. I will look into the MGW shifter.
I have an 04 mack 1 since 2007, around 2009 5th gear started that crunhing sound, worse when cold weather. Summertime its dead quiet. Ford rebuilt the trans 3 times under warranty and never solved the issue. Its still like that too this day but never has gotten worse.

Mine 05+ tr3650 have all sort of noises. After teardown we saw the internals look like new (46k miles on it). I'm use Valvoline Dex/Merc
