I am SO happy that this topic of of Mental health, Disabled Veteran status, and post service letting yourself go was brought up. Can't imagine this being OK discussion when I was in, but so happy that it is, that help is (slowly) getting better, and that Ones Ready and Mr. Koumalatsos has the balls, support and Wisdom to put this content out there.
what a phenomenal discussion this is....I asked my person what he 1st wanted to do when he comes back...he said sleep for 3 days...it made sense to me...the rest we'll play by ear....I suspect he'll want to eat all the fruit he can get hold of too. We chat about various things but anything "work" related is carefully mentioned...he finally tells me when his back hurts or if he is too tired to talk...it makes me so glad I'm a former AF brat ...we all have scars visible & invisible..you guys rock! all your information and conversation I suspect is more invaluable than you guys imagine
Nick proves the stereotype true: All MARSOC dudes/Raiders are huge beasts. SERIOUS NOTE: Yessss, when your physical equals/competitors are miserable, YOUR POSITIVE, "GIMME MORE" MENTAL ATTITUDE IS WHAT WINS THE GAME. Nick took that "pick yourself up by the bootstraps" attitude into his Veteran life and to others, and while tough love doesn't taste good to the person finding solace in Doritos, Pepsi and misery on the sofa, tough love is a freaking truth serum. Some people just don't want to take the medicine and *put in the work* to get better. As a civvie who lives by the same ethos as the three of you gents, I can tell you the scenario is the same with non-service-related challenges and mental, physical illness. 💪🏻🇺🇲💪🏻 Will share this episode, for sure.
48 min in his chat about empathy/sympathy, I see this so much in others with cancer. They need to be pet, they need it to become their 'who.' I fucking despise it. I eat it, it makes me work harder. I might die from it, but I am not a victim, and I don't need to be pet.
If you can pass the ASVAB for the AFSC, you’ll be able to do the math. But yes, pretty basic IMO. Think add or subtract 180 to figure reverse compass headings.

Nick obviously doesn't understand obesity. If he did, he would have a different view of things. Instead of calling them fat!
Very cool!
