I started sleeping on my back after I saw your first video about it. It was great advice! I had deep chest creases from side sleeping. At 72 I thought erasing those wrinkles was impossible. Well, they are gone! Still sleeping on my back all the time. Thanks, Angie!

My chest wrinkles are gone, too, and they were deep creases. Exfoliating in a Epsom salt bath with an oil (coconut, castor...) and baking soda scrub will help moisturizers to absorb better and it helps to lighten sun damaged, spotted skin over time. Keeping your arms at your sides while sleeping is key especially if you have larger breasts and wrinkled cleavage. Been sleeping elevated, on my back for over a decade now because of migraines. I'm 55 (and a half) and have no migraines, no visible wrinkles, but laugh lines are there, because I smile A LOT 😁.

I was one of the viewers who did this and sent you pictures a few years ago! The difference is astounding! I look like I had eye surgery. My hooded eyes were greatly diminished and my eye bags are mostly gone, and they were huge before! I also notice that I breathe so much better, because my sinuses stay clearer. Best beauty advice I’ve ever used!

Rebecca Young I use a 10 inch wedge pillow with 2 pillows on top, like Angie did. I had to take Z-Quil the first week or so to fall asleep. Best decision ever! Started training myself to sleep on my back after watching one of your earlier videos. It immediately helped with my sinuses and shoulder, neck and hip pain. After a few months, I noticed that my smile lines were decreasing and my hooded eyes looked a little better. Thank you Angie for your advice! It's making a difference in my life every day. For those of you trying to get used to sleeping on your back: Try a smaller, 7" wedge. Try one pillow under your knees, another pillow on your chest (to hug), and a third pillow under your head (pull it up to touch both your cheeks -- like an airplane pillow). I find this so comfy, that I now wake up on my back, even if I fall asleep on my side! Once I found what was comfortable for me, it only took about a week to get used to sleeping on my back.

I will have to try adding more pillows like you did. I find I am sliding down my pillow and wake up at the bottim of the wedge. Or I have low back pain because there is a gap between my lower back and the narrow end of the wedge.

  • @CHRowan73
    @CHRowan73 5 ปีที่แล้ว +90

I recommend a pillow under the knees if someone is still having back pain when using the wedge. Elevating both my upper half and my knees, while it feels funny at first, really helps with pain and aging bodies.

I started sleeping on my back due to severe acid reflux. I started out using a wedge due to the fact my head needed to be elevated. It has made a world of difference with that issue. Another thing that helps to transition to sleeping on the back is a weighted blanket. It gives the feeling of security the way sleeping on your side or belly does. I was so happy to hear all of the anti-aging benefits that come with sleeping on the back. The benefits of it are endless!!

So for those of you who can't sleep on your back....Here's what my physical therapist recommends. Most people sleep on their left side. The heart side. Sleep on your left side with an elevated pillow but pretend like you have an orange in your right hand and place your right arm behind your back as if the orange was down by your butt. Your neck will thank you and you won't get wrinkles on your chest. I've been doing it for 10 years and I'm 54. I don't have one line down my chest and I don't wake up with neck pain. I appreciate Angies recommendation. I could just never sleep the way she does because of low back pain. I still love her advice!

I use the wedge pillow plus another pillow on top of that to stabilize my head. No joke, the first day I woke up from doing that my under eye puffiness was almost gone. I didn't have the chest wrinkles. After a couple of months of doing that my eye hoods are greatly pulled back to the point I haven't even gone in to update my Botox. Not going to lie it was quite a challenge the first week sleeping like that. I've been a dedicated stomach or side sleeper all my life. Sometimes I even contort a little with my body slightly side facing and my face up ha ha but I wouldn't recommend that (neck tweaks). It really does make a huge difference.

LOVE the wedge! No longer wake up with a puffy face and eyes and chest wrinkles are GONE! Use two pillows on top of the wedge. A soft flat one at my back and a firm, fuller one for my head. Before, every morning felt I needed to press a golf ball into my right glute to alleviate the pain and now my lower back and glutes are PAIN FREE! That was life changing!
Also, got one for my husband and his snoring has cut way back AND It’s saved him from needing a c-pap contraption to keep his breathing airways open! It DOES take a couple months getting used to but SOOO WORTH IT! Thanks Angie

Thank you Angie for doing this video. When I fell asleep on my recliner in front of the TV and then waking up in the morning, my back and neck didn't hurt and my hair wasn't flat on the sides. My face also looked better because I was getting the full benefit of my nighttime skincare routine because it's not rubbing off on my pillow! So sleeping on the recliner is how I trained myself to sleep on my back in my bed.

You’ve inspired me to do what my ENT doctor (she’s also a plastic surgeon) suggested to change to sleeping on my back! It prevents all that yuk sinus drainage into your sinus which is a large part of under eye bags. All the allergy yuk drains to your face while sleeping. I have allergy/sinus issues and my doctor told me that it’ll make a huge difference for waking up not congested and prevent aging my face with creases etc. I really didn’t believe her but now I’ve heard it in multiple places people and doctors. I’ve been wondering how to do it and now I feel confident I’ll be able to learn how. Thank you! Thank you!

Finally working on back seeping. Love your feline supervisor. :-) Mine, a 12+ lb. black boy, sleeps with me, keeps me company day in, day out, speaks when spoken to, and accompanies me on walks. Thank you, thank you for this video, Angie! Because of your recommendations, I bought the 10” wedge and the Your Face pillow. I couldn’t sleep on the wedge, even with extra pillows cupping my neck, so here was my solution and I am SO HAPPY with it!
I put the Your Face pillow on top of 1 “My Pillow” and 1 down pillow.
I use the wedge under my knees.
I have never had such good night sleeps, and I wake up in the same position.
I think I will also buy the wedge pillow cover because I find that it is very warm as is, and with the upcoming summer, it would be too hot to use.

I've done this for fifteen years now, and couldn't be more content: results pretty much the same as Angie's. I use an Ikea slatted bed base, and add some cushions. I find it a restful and pleasant position, but my younger self was a curled-up side sleeper. My 'hooded' and baggy eyes further improved - dramatically actually - due to menopause: my water retention seems to have been by and large hormonally driven. Prominent eye - visible white around the iris, making you look overly excited, or even 'hysterical' particularly in flash-lit pics - disappeared completely too, once menopause commenced. [no HRT/no procedures/plant-based]. It's not all downhill ladies :))

But I think the my face pillow could really help me switch. I can still easily snuggle to get sleepy and then move to my side and back sleep. Angie....you have the best videos. Those who suffer from GERD symptoms will most likely love that wedge pillow as it'll help that malady. I'll put a roll pillow (also found on Amazon) under my lower back which helps immensely. Great video as usual!!

I trained myself to sleep on my back 15 years ago. I don't have bags under my eyes either and I wonder if that's why! I can't sleep comfortably with my head elevated like you. I sleep in the 'flying Peter Pan' position though and put a large pillow under my knees (otherwise my back would hurt in the morning). One trick I used early on was to wear large post earrings- that way if I rolled over in my sleep they would be so uncomfortable that it woke me up and I'd roll onto my back again!!

This is a great video. I started waking up in the middle of the night chocking due to sleep apnea. I already struggle to sleep and cpap machines are kinda loud. My husband bought me a wedge pillow last Christmas and it has been extremely helpful. He said he doesn’t even hear me in bed anymore….and I no longer snore. I had a huge chest wrinkle for years….I can’t believe it’s gone, but it is. I still wake up on y side sometimes but I am going to look into the pillow you shared that stabilizes your head. I think that will definitely help. Glad I found your video noting the anti-aging and other benefits. There are so many!

After watching one of your older videos where you focused to sleep on the inclined pillow to help your eyes seem more open, I made the effort to sleep on my back and have seen some of my sleep wrinkles really diminish! I'm 37 and noticed some verticle creasing above my eyebrow. I was using a retinol serum to help ease it away, but it really improved after changing my sleep position. I actually purchased the Posture Pillow after seeing ads for it on IG, and now I have less sleep wwrinkles AND my neck feels soo much better than it has in a long time. Angie you are the best!

Thanks so much for the tip! Sleeping on your back really does help with facial puffiness & creases. I use a pregnancy pillow to not only prop me up but it sort of gives the upper body a hug so it holds me comfortably in place. It’s smaller than the pillow you got your daughter so you can still share a bed with someone!

I'm new...no clue how you showed up in my video feed, but glad you did. I am a side and stomach sleeper and my face will tell you so! I just had a lengthy incision from the inside corner of my eye to bottom of my cheek (nice curve design) due to skin cancer. On my left...the side I sleep on. Been using a wall of pillows and a neck pillow to keep from turning. Working ok if the neck pillow stays in place, but it easily slides off. So appreciate the tips and will order from your Amazon store in the morning...midnight here right now. Looking forward to going thru you videos....will be 73 in April and have a lot of undoing to do! Thank you!

I can attest to this; I stopped sleeping on my back about a year ago... I never realized people noticed the chest wrinkles, until someone pointed out that, after not seeing me for over a year- that the skin on my chest looked amazing. Weird compliment, but it was true! This is probably the most effective thing for my face and chest lines, other than serum hydration.

OMG, thank you for this video. After your many mentions in other videos of the benefits of back sleeping, I tried back sleeping and just couldn’t do it - so much so, that I turned into a stomach sleeper. I also tried searching the web for head pillows that would stop my head from turning to the side. Too many products, too many reviews, just way too confusing. So your specific product suggestions are a huge help. With my own pillows I tried to buttress everything including my head but my head kept turning to the side. After your tips in this video, I know better how to try it again. I sure would like fewer creases, higher lids and less eye bags, etc. Thanks again.

I tried to train myself to sleep on my back multiple times and it never worked until I used a wedge. It got rid of the back pain I suffered from every morning, it got rid of the stuffiness I had. And now I've added pillows under my knees and that helps a lot too. Still I do sleep on my side from times to time, when I can't get to sleep mostly. But I figure 80% of the time sleeping on my back should be good enough for all those healthcare issues Angie mentionned + for all the beauty related benefits too.

I had a breast surgery a year ago and was forced to sleep on my back. Fortunately we had a bed that adjusts so i dont need the wedge. Also i just kind of naturally fell into the peter pan pose while sleeping. It helps! I just recently got botox and restylane and the spa tech said to sleep on my back. Then just yesterday i had my second breast surgery...so sleeping on my back is a must! This time i bought myself the airplane neck pillow and it keeps my head in position. I plan to try to keep sleeping on my back and not revert back to being a side sleeper because of all the benefits!!! Thanks for such a great video on this subject Angie😍😙

Hi Angie: Thank you so much for this video. I follow a few people on TH-cam but because of the amount of research that you do, I trust your advice on eg skin care the most. You can’t argue with science and results!! Now this video I think will be a game changer for me. I have been having some sort of either allergic reaction or stress reaction over the past few months where I wake up in the night with my eyes itching and swelling. Because of my age, once the episode is over I’m left wth what look like water sacks under my eyes for a couple of weeks until they go away..its just where it settles now. I use cold packs, creams, lymphatic massage etc, but I think sleeping on my back will help a great deal. Wish me luck!! Thanks again....great video. Judy

I started sleeping on my back 10 years ago because of pain in my hips. I went through the same process as you, and even ended up with same pillow/wedge configuration you use so it obviously works. I don't do the Peter Pan thing with my legs. I use two standard memory foam pillows stacked under my knees, and I snug the bottom one right up under my butt. That serves a couple purposes. It prevents sliding down and side rolling. It also eliminates pressure on my hip (joints, ligaments, tendons) and my lower back. It's also a great position to reduce swelling in the knees, ankles and feet if someone has that problem. I've had women ask me why I don't have chest wrinkles and I had no idea. I had never connected it to sleeping on my back until today. I'm only 49, but I've never taken care of my skin, no sunscreen, etc. So I'm glad to learn I've at least been doing one beneficial thing for my skin all of these years.

Sleeping on my back has not only helped my jaw, I also noticed all the things you mention about less puffiness, dark circles and shoulder pain, and of course that wrinkle on the chest. It took some time to get used to, but eventually you do. Thanks for sharing Angie!

    Aaawwwww. . . sweet kitty!
I told my sister she needs that "C" shaped pillow!! She sleeps with like 7 or 9 pillows at night . .. !! I might like to try it also.
As a kid and into my 20s and probably early 30s, I slept on my back, (when it didn't really matter...lol) then I hurt my back and became a side sleeper. Now having turned 50 last year I am trying to sleep on my back again and I have been working on this for some time now. I do pretty good most nights, but there are those times when it is always just SO comfortable to roll over and snuggle in on my side!! LOL For years my husband slept on a wedge to help with snoring, and yes it did help, but then I bought a 6 inch wedge that goes between the mattress and box spring. (or on top of your mattress if you don't mind sleeping on foam) I know 6 inches isn't huge, but I think it helps. So now we both sleep on a little incline, and I also sleep with a couple pillows under my head and shoulders.
I really don't see a huge difference, hopefully I will with a little more time. Thanks Angie! Have a great day! XO

This is such great advice, Angie. It is an inexpensive, non-invasive, natural and reasonable option to slow down wrinkle formation. I didn't think it was possible after being a lifelong side-sleeper, but I have been able to sleep on my back for most of the last 2 nights. A couple of times I woke up and found myself on my side, so I forced myself back into position and was able to go back to sleep. I haven't purchased a wedge as of yet; I'm just trying it out with the pillows I currently own. I find it incredible that anyone would criticize this video. It's so simple and worth a try.

The only problem I had while sleeping on my back was breathing through my mouth and I don’t sleep as well. I googled this and there is a product they sell which keeps your mouth closed but cost around $1.00 per sticker/night. Instead I went to CVS and bought the 3M Nexcare gentle paper tape and now I purse my lips and place a tape vertically from my above my top lip to below my bottom lip and voila, I breath through my nose, a MUCH better sleep indeed! Note that the tape is quite sticky so I usually rip off a piece and then press it on my blanket a few times to reduce the stickiness and that works great. If needed, I can still breath through the sides of my mouth.

I do use it to sleep on my back but honestly I love it when I side sleep too. I just put my head on the raised part. I also don't use it flat on the bed. It took me exactly one night to get used to sleeping on my back! Never thought it possible.......however I do it differently. I sleep with a regular pillow under my head but I stack 2 large fluffy pillows under my knees to support my lower back. No back ache, no hip aches, no shoulder pain and no chest crease in the morning! I also don't have a problem with puffy eyes or dark circles either. I tend to smash the left side of my face into the pillow at night though so I think I might pick up the double bump pillow you recommend.
