      Heavy as 10lbs? Or heavier?

    • @strangerthingsaresaid7655
      @strangerthingsaresaid7655 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +33

      @AMcG-hf6yx 10lbs is way too light. If you can do 8-10 reps easily then it's too light. Make the weight heavy enough that you can barely do 8-10 reps. Make sure your form is good so you don't hurt yourself.

    • @SM-se3hz
      @SM-se3hz 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +18

      @@AMcG-hf6yx It depends on the specific exercise/body part. The smaller the muscle group the lower the weight is going to be. 10 lb may be on the heavier side for some doing a bicep curl, but would not be heavy for a squat for example…in my opinion 😊 I have worked my way up to squatting a 40 lb dumbbell for reps.

    • @jillshorten3457
      @jillshorten3457 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +21

      @@AMcG-hf6yx get some guidance on the right posture and movements for lifting too. Then start light and work your way up. For most of my life I was told that women should not lift heavy, because we would “bulk up.” We were told to use very light weights and do more reps. This is total bullshit. I lift as heavy as I can, almost to failure, multiple times a week. Feeling strong at 58 is incredible and part of my nursing home prevention program 😉 also less saggy crepey skin since I have muscles now!

      I found Angie at 41 after a lifetime of working outdoors. Just took my one year progress photo and was shocked. I know that term is used a lot, but really, I was shocked at the improvement after just one year of a consistent routine with Vitamin C, Tretinion, more consistent weight training, and cutting the unnecessary sugars in our silly American foods. I also had just one BBL/Moxi. Angie gave me hope that I really could reverse the damage and she gave the tools on how to do it. I feel better than I have in years. Thanks, Angie!!!

      @goldenyearsacres9163 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      You are correct. I grew up in Florida seeing my mom & aunt sunbathing with baby oil with iodine mixed in it. I wasn't much better with spf 4 with hours outside with freckles & skin that burned & stayed pink, but never really tanned. I am regretting it badly in my 50's. I look 10 yrs older than my peers. After using retinol on my face it made all the actinic keratosis on my face turn bright pink which made my complexion look worse, not better. I haven't found aging to be enjoyable in the least. Seems everyone choice I made in my youth has come back to bite me in my 50's. It makes me dread my 60's & 70's.

Thank you! But, saving my bones due to your sharing the bone scan info, that was amazing. I pushed to get the dexa scan done at 54 and discovered, of course, osteopenia already. Be careful! Excess of (excellent) cosmetic actives can cause chronical inflammation which eventually destroys collagen and results in creepy skin. And the worst part is that inflamed skin looks plumbed so most people tend to continue to overuse the ingredients that are destroying their skin. Certainly a problem when overusing retinoids

    Im 69 and got crepey skin on my arms 2 yrs ago. I have always lifted weights and still do. I have used all three of those lotions. The retinol in the gold bond irritated the inside of my elbow. Even if I avoided that area it still found its way there. The Amlactin smells so bad I only used it a couple of times. (but if I knew it definatley would work I would go back to it!) I am surprised you recommend the bottle with pump of alpha hydroxy knowing how thick it is. I have just less than a half a bottle left and even after days of leaving it upside down it still wont come to the top, so I guess I have to cut the bottle. Ill never buy it again for that reason. Who has time for that? I also find it hard to believe anyone in their forties would have crepey skin unless they went through early menopause. I also tried beef tallow, nothing. Hate castor oil it is stickly, gross and it stains! Wish I could find something that really worked. Oh and I now tend to look at womens arms at the gym (over 60ish) and thin women have crepey skin and heavy women have lumpy arms so really we are doomed)

      @barbarafairbanks4578 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @rosedeleon9390
      I'm with you, but a good decade+ older😅.
      I have crepiness only on the lily-white inner areas of my arms. I figure it's from low (maybe no?😮) estrogen at this pt. (breezed thru menopause late at 58).
      Have done resistance training & aerobics & running since my early 30's. Now in my 70's and lifting (relatively) - key word there 'relatively' - heavy💪 (which TBH a well-muscled gym 'bro' would scoff at)😗
      Been taking 5g/day creatine Monohydrate for well over 6 yrs. I think it does help to plump up muscles, like biceps - thus the skin appears tighter over the muscle.
      Nevertheless I do have some crepiness on innermost part of my biceps - while mid & outer biceps - skin looks firm there.
      Crepiness on insides of arms began seriously - I'd say - 3 yrs ago.
      I do not have crepiness anywhere else but in the low muscle tone - somewhat flabby, inside areas of my arms.
      What IS that muscle supposed to BE there? Inside of triceps? I've never been able to get that area 'muscle' to respond to any resistance movement. I think maybe there IS no muscle left there? - and thus the flabby unsupported, crepey skin is the
      result?😳
      Well... actually 😒 I do see there is some crepiness on my relaxed calf muscles - which I just ck'd, lol 😂- but that does not bother me like my arms do - as cannot see them without a concerted effort, and don't go around in shorts so no one else sees that crepiness, either - therefore - is non-existant 😅
      But would love to go bare armed in the sumner🫤
      I was going to try Oneskin body cream - they (OS company) says that bc it has peptides that it solves crepiness.
      However, it's very pricey AND after reading customer reviews, have come to the conclusion that it supposedly solves crepiness is nothing more than marketing language to sell the product.
      ...just as we see for a retinol cream; a ceremide cream; a glycolic acid cream, and now a Peptide cream - none of these do any more, IMO, than temporarily improve appearance by way of moisturization.
      Turns out, NONE of these molecules are small enough to penetrate to the dermis, where it could make a difference.
      And that, imo, also includes Peptides.
      I am considering trying a derma pen on my inner arms - possibly a derma pen with addition of a retinol, or peptide serum that could actually penetrate below the epidermal layer with use of the needles opening up holes in the epidermis to help these actives' molecules to penetrate.
      Even damaging the epidermis with a derma needle without using
      an active to stimulate estrogen/elastin/collegen - will still stimulate the body to increase those molecules that we need in order to firm the skin & improve texture - even without benefit of using an active to penetrate down to the dermal layer.
      That's my last resort🙄
      Anyhow...having tried everything else- included my Omniluxe LED devices on my arms - nothing has helped any more than the effect of temporary mousturizatiin - including taking hyaluronic acid supplements - which is supposed to increase internal skin moisture. Nothing!

    I can vouch for the impact of estrogen alone. I underwent a stem cell transplant for blood cancer which included chemotherapy that pretty much nuked my ovaries at 37. I noticed crepey skin immediately. It was like night and day difference with the abrupt loss of endogenous estrogen with my ovaries at 37- the women in my family have menopause around 50-52. I saw the impact happen so fast. With HRT, I’ve been able to see my skin come back again and be less crepey. It’s pretty amazing what topical estrogen does as well- I’ve been using it on my face and it’s very impactful.

    I am so glad that you talked about nutrition. I truly believe everything starts with diet. I lost my mom in 2019 and then my brother to COVID in 2020. I went through an intense, deep depression and I barely ate. As a result, I lost over a hundred pounds in less than a year (I was very heavy). This caused incredibly damaging results... Extreme hair loss, tons of crepey skin, wrinkles, etc. Once this happened, it is very difficult to get back to healthy. I'm STILL trying to fix my hair loss and it's stopped falling out but it's very slow to grow back. Most channels seem to only want to sell products and I totally understand! But it's just REALLY great to hear you mention this❤

    You solved the mystery of why my face turned tawny after a couple of years of retin A. I take a lot of supplements, including vitamin A. Clearly the retin A pushed me over the top of too much. Now I only use retinaldehyde three times a week on my neck and have retained a normal complexion color.

    Something to always think about with any treatment after the age of 50 is, at least for me, its about slowing the aging of my skin. Its not about looking 30 again. Even if I don't see reversal, for most things I know I am changing what my skin will look like in 10 yrs. I think of all the things I should have done ten years ago and didn't and then I ask myself, what will I regret not doing today? Sunscreen is the best example of this. We can sometimes see very little difference over time and think that was a waste but that's because we are not thinking about what the results would be had we done nothing. This video really drives home that message❤

    One of the advantages of having extremely pale Irish skin-I burn so easily I've always had to cover and protect my skin, so no crepeyness at all at 56. And we get sun so infrequently in Ireland it's easy enough to avoid sun damage anyway.

    I'll just keep a bottle of The Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid next to me when I'm watching TV.. It's like water and I'll just put it on my arms and hand, legs when I think of it. I really keeps skin smooth. Sometimes I'll put a nice moisturizer on top of it. It's really helped with age spots on my hands and arms, and crepey skin.And I'll take regular body moisturizer and add some Lactic Acid from The Ordinary to it.

    something else to consider is "shrinking" after menopause. Some women tend to loose height , as I have at 72, and the skin is no longer stretched on the taller frame. It has no where to go but to bunch up on the shorter frame and look crepey. Bummer!!

    At 62 I didn't have crepey skin at all. At 71 I have some on my arms and knees. Several things kept it away until now. First, listen to Angie when she says to stop sun bathing! I grew up at the beach and was burned or tan all the time. BUT, in my early 30s, I started avoiding the sun. Next, I went on bioidentical HRT when menopause started and I've stayed on it, so I'm getting some estrogen. I have also been applying a ceramide lotion to my body daily for the past 30 years. I recently started using a retinol lotion for the crepey skin I have now. After watching this video I'm going to get serious with my red light panel.😅

    Thank you for sharing! I also use my prescription retin A from my dermatologist. My dermatologist suggested I use my Retin A on my hands and fore arms because she said it helps to prevent the blueish bruising marks we all get as we get older. She also said the prescription Retin A is safe to use on the body.

    • @barbarafairbanks4578
      @barbarafairbanks4578 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I tried using retin A
      (tret.) A teensy amount of tret. mixed with moisturizer, every night, on insides of my arms to try to address crepiness there.
      After about 2 weeks - no discernable lessening of crepiness, but did develop a troublesome & irritating red rash in the areas where applied.
      So, I stopped the Retin A, and the rash disappeared. It had to be the tretinoin causing the rash because that same moisturizer used without Tret. has never been an issue when used on my arms
      Angie has said not to use Tretinoin on body skin because the body stores vita. A there - but apparently not on the face-?
      This sounds illogical to me - but I figure Angie is right because she researches before she advises. She wouldn't say this unless she knew it to be true, imo.
      I am now wondering if a build-up of vitamin A on my arms is what caused the rash I experienced there with Tret.
      Idk how long you have been using Retin A on your body? (especially backs of hands - I tried that also, and my hands became even more dry & wrinkly).
      It's interesting to me that perhaps some can use Tret on their body skin to good effect - as in your case - but for me it acted adversely .
      There is a YT influencer who was also using Retin A mixed with moisturizer cream on her arms (inside areas which, like mine, were crepey.)
      And, like you, she was advised to do this by her Derm.
      She had just begun doing this & demoed it in a video last year - but there seems to be no follow-up on her channel for what results she might have gotten. No idea if this was successful for her🤷‍♀️
      I've been using Omniluxe face, decollette & hands LED devices for nearly 2 years now. Angie's influence!
      I've had very little, if any, crepiness on my face - not that I can discern, anyway - but lots of sun damage on my chest - skin that's firm looking, but always very dry looking & I guess the dry-skin crepiness there is more from excessive past sun exposure than anything else .
      The appearance of my face & hands have improved with the Omniluxe - AND especially after using Green tea Maysama serum on skin before using my LED devices. (Which I recently began using - am now on my 2nd bottle of Maysama serum and have noticed such an improvement in appearance of my skin - I don't want to ever be without it. While I am not plagued by crepuness on my face or neck using Masayma with my LED devices really gives my skin a more hydrated look.
      There may be a slight improvement on chest, but is hard to tell & I don't take photo's (also using Maysama there, plus face, neck, and hands.)
      But its hard to tell, re my chest - I think nothing short of a lazer resurfacing on my chest will ever make much difference there, unfortunately.
      My neck seems fine - skin there is good & can use full Tret there with no ill effects.
      Of note - I am in mid 70's now. I seriously baked in CA sun through teens & early adulthood WITH an aluminum reflector!
      But, the kicker is that I always wore foundation on face & neck. But on chest, arms legs, etc. I used baby oil & iodine to tan.
      I think the fact that my facial skin was excessively oily and I never went outside without opaque make-up on face & neck...
      that actually saved those areas from sun damage - even though I was trying to bake my face tan with a suntan reflector!
      But the inside areas of my arms are embarrassingly crepey! I'm talking about the lily-white ( & slightly flabby) areas that are definitely not sun damaged.
      I have good muscle tone on my arms from lifting weights with no flabby or creepiness. But my inner arms are very crepey. So I think it's most likely from loss of estrogen, plus low muscle tone in those areas.
      Even the inner bicep area is crepey - but outer bicep is firm with no crepiness.
      I have been supplementing with
      5g/day creatine Monohydrate for 6 years now - and I do think it has helped to retain moisture in my muscles which helps to plump up their appearance.
      I've used all the creams that Angie talks about in this video, plus others from Paula's choice. They improve the appearance, but as for actually improving texture or firming skin in that area - no - it's a no go - as soon as the moisturizing effect of the creams wears off crepiness is more apparent
      I've tried wrapping my Omniluxe face & neck devices around those areas of my arms - did this consistently for 6 wks - only effect was that it wore down my batteries on my devices that much faster. I found myself recharging one device or another nearly every day.
      My last resort... using a derma pen on those areas of my arms. I've never even felt any temptation to use a derma pen on my face or neck because those areas are firm - n9 crepiness so far...
      But for my arms - derma rolling is the only thing I haven't tried there yet. If I begin soon...maybe by summer I can go sleeveless 😅

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Great question! I wish I knew the answer to it but there are so many different lasers for different things so one won't be "the best" overall but might be the best for one specific thing. I've heard that Halo is the best for sun damage but I haven't done it so I really can't say... It would be fun to have different body parts done with different lasers to compare!

      @ Thanks for the reply!!! The whole landscape of lasers is so confusing right now.
      You might also want to investigate the difference between retinols and retinoids. I am not an expert, but my friends who seem to know more that are involved in esthetics, say that retinols are largely ineffective. On their recommendation I have just been mixing in Tret with my lotion and have achieved (I think) great results.

    I'm 46 with very dry and sensitive skin. Have been using body lotions since I can remember. I think I always have at least 5 at any given time. If you're sensitive to chemical exfoliation like me but not sensitive to scrubbing, scrubbing gloves in the shower are perfect and they massage your skin. You can find delicate gloves ore more rough ones. Also consider using shower oils instead of soap or at least some gentle moisturising shower gels.
