I'm with the Chilliwack Retro Computer Club that put on that vintage computer festival on the 4th floor. In previous years, we were occupying the hallway on the 3rd floor, with a focus on retro computer gaming. Because it's been so popular, and we've been able to keep expanding, we were able to do an actual mini-vintage computer festival with guests from outside the club, including some guest speakers! I believe this is the first vintage computer festival we've had in western Canada in decades! I had a couple tables in the adjoining room with PC compatibles and some Tandy systems, and we even had some DooM multiplayer LAN games going! There were a couple NABU machines set up (one of them at 5:27), which was a uniquely Canadian system that unfortunately never really took off. Somebody recently found a warehouse with some pallets of that machine, and so they've been making a comeback in the vintage computer community over the past couple of years! Klyball, one of the club members, has been actively involved with designing a new floppy controller for it, and somebody else has brought back the NABU network that they were meant to dial into! We had a VERY good turnout this year, even by ourselves up on the 4th floor!
Awesome stuff John I love the channel. Us teachers really have to enjoy our summer to get ready to do it all over again this next school year. Take Care and God Bless.
Hey, I made it into the video! I'm that guy in line at the beginning! Over the last year I obtained an Atari 7800 so that was on my radar at an expo for the first time. Managed to get Food Fight and Centipede. I was also on the look out for Atari Lynx but I only saw one booth with two games that were in box and out of my price range. Gamedeals' liquidation sale is always a highlight but I only got three games from it this year. I've been using it to pad out my PS2, Xbox and PS3 collections for years but I'm running out of cheap titles to get. Still the selection was great! I was thinking that if someone bought one of those systems or an Xbox 360 at the show they could easily grab a dozen good titles from that table alone to start their collection. My brother actually had the better score this year. I tend to buy a lot of cheaper games while he's pickier and will get only a few pricier ones. He got Trails of Cold Steel II for the PS3 and Yggdra Union for the PSP - two games that had been on his radar for years. So we had a great time as usual and will be back next year!
Hey John, I was at your booth and I bought a Genesis cartridge and some ROMs on a USB stick. I just want to say that I played all your games on my Steam Deck, and they were glorious. I was on my porch, drinking a beer, and just having a complete blast. Thank you for showing some love to us PC gamers.
Hi John! Thanks for spending the time to chat with me! I appreciate getting the button and being able to purchase and play your games. Hopefully I'll be able to meet you again next year. Awesome video; my wife was really interested in your video because I only took pictures so she got a better understanding of the the retro videogame expo was about. Cheers!
As always John. So amazing to see videos like this. Always, whenever I watch these types of videos, I always wish I could have been there, but, sadly know that I cant, but your videos are so amazingly shot that it feels like I am there with you. Scouring the tables and seeing what's on offer to maybe purchase and take home to play. Also amazingly friendly people there too as always seems to be in that environment. Thank you for experiencing it with me John.
I live in BC, about five hours from New West, this province has a MASSIVE retro gaming scene. John Ferguson is really the face of that scene here and the amount of HappyConsoleGamer shirt-wearing people I've seen out in the wild has surprised me.
Thanks for the video of the retro computer setup. I only got to attend virtually, but I was stoked to see the NABU PC at 3:50. I'll be presenting at Southern Fried Gaming Expo. Would be great to see you there!
I wish we had a show like that on the east coast of Canada. Google maps says that New Westminster is a 55 hour drive, and that is going through the USA.
I wish we had more vintage computer festivals in Western Canada, but most of them are in the states. In previous years, we (the Chilliwack Retro Computer Club) were in the hallway on the 3rd floor, but the retro computer section has been so popular that the VRGE organizers were gracious enough to let us put on our own mini-vintage computer festival up on the 4th floor! John didn't show it on the video (he might have taken it while we were still getting set up), but we had another room on the side with several more displays, including two of my own tables with a few Tandy systems, some Macintosh's, and other PC compatibles that we were running some DooM multiplayer on.
Never been to Vancouver, But Victoria, BC has some great retro games stores as well! Maybe even come more Eastward, dare I say Edmonton, AB... 😂 Beauty video as always!
I remember one year you bought a lot of snacks and you did a video with your wife trying them. I really enjoyed that video but, man, I wanted some junk food after watching that. 😂😂
John, you can finally start collecting the bilingual (French Canadian) versions of Sega games... and, also, the variant covers with Canadian spellings! (Parlor vs. Parlour, etc.)
Did the retro computer floor have computers ready for purchase? In short it would be cool to buy a computer good to go to play windows 95/98 games alot of times the ones you get off line work but you run into issues later on
I live in Canada and you guys have way better pricing than here. We pay about $15 US more on games. Prime example is tmnt tit. I see that about $45-$50 US so that’s about $75 CAD but tmnt tit is more than $75. It’s about $80-$100 CAD. Plus Canada’s a sinking ship I’m glad.y on my way out ahaha

Thank you for the comment and additional info about your club. It is most appreciated.
Us Canadians love our Retro 😁

The immortal John Hancock heads to Canada for the convention/expo

Looked awesome there. One thing i notice is I don't see any Phillips CDi. That is my dream console to have.

There is a great show in Toronto I hear and want to attend it some day.
@@johnhancockretro Yeah, Toronto is only 16.5 hours west of me. I'd love to see a major show in Halifax, but Nova Scotia is kinda small.

Spaceballs is getting a sequel😮😮
Amazing
Those X68000 monitors have a look of ED-209 about them. Love it
You have 20 seconds to comply lol.
That halo 2 hat is amaaaazing

Yep those are snacks are goo.
It's pretty dead where I am in Canada. I doubt you have even given two thoughts about travelling to Saskatchewan for your gaming pleasures.
Vive le Québec Libre !
I'm soooooo dizzy after watching this 😵🥴😖

big NES fan here
Are you coming through to Calgary?
That N-Gage was $300 Loose?!? 😳
It was not a stock N Gage(was modified to play games) and the first model is hard to find in good shape anymore.

The space was for display and free play but I am sure the club who put it on could point you in a direction to purchase somewhere
I didnt named it... but i think it was there.... :-)
