      If you hadn't already put the brass plaque in it, you could have turned it into a lampshade. That would have been cool.

    Project for the leftover leaves: How about a tray! The bottom of the tray could be a flat resin 'board' and then add some wood on the sides for the handles. Not much turning but you could show us your carving skills whilst making the handles.

    • @slc1161
      @slc1161 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do a spring one with small twig pieces with buds. And some partially unwrapped leaves. Summer with all the leaves their normal color. Don't forget those annoying maple helicopter seeds too. Winter can be all dead twigs but some with tight buds. Use some of the white fake snow also.

    That's a beauty, Nick! And I'm *SO* glad you have a Ginkgo (often misspelt Gingko) tree (that's the 'funny leaf' you referred to). Ginkgos are my favourite trees - they're a unique living fossil. Not unlike myself.

    • @marshawargo7238
      @marshawargo7238 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I came to say that. That tree has 2 different shapes of leaves. & I think it's a Sycamore that has 3 different shapes of leaves (1 of them looks like a mitten) I'm also fond of Tulip Trees, I was 55 when I found out it even existed!

      Have you ever looked at the "tiny new leaves" that pop out in Springtime❓All
      perfectly formed ( like new-borns )?
      I make bookmarks with tiny maple leaves and oak leaves, and I noticed you have Japanese Maple trees. They are wonderful when their leaves first appear.❗I'm sure you have an abundance of shrubs and roses and even moss.
      I can't remember this minute, what the name is.....but there is a powder to preserve delicate flowers, (not as heavy as what you used). Glycerin also preserves leaves.
      I'd love to see more leaf projects.
      How about a "Wine" tray made with
      grape leaves and curly-cues. You are an artist❗.......I am just a thinker. Go forth
      and gather. 😑😉🖖🧝‍♀️

    Maybe next time you can do the leaves in UV resin for some layers and then pour regular resin over those layers. I wonder if that would work and keep the leaves from floating.

    • @jsharik2466
      @jsharik2466 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My thoughts exactly! Leaves on bottom, add a bit of resin, let it dry. Add a thin layer of resin and use it as a glue to hold the second bowl and patiently layer it up to the rim. But his result is beautiful!

    • @toddhudson4550
      @toddhudson4550 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@jsharik2466 I had thought of something similar. Would it work to start with the smaller bowl inverted, dip the leaves in resin, and layer them on, similar as paper mache? Then, once the leaves are built up to thickness desired, put this into the larger bowl and fill.

I stayed up late to watch this when I got the notification and I'm so happy I did because this is beautiful! I also love how the emblem looks like it's kinda floating in the bottom. Great project Nick!

    Stayed until the end. Loved how it turned out...no pun intended haha. Would make a awesome lamp idea. Next batch of leaves, crumble some up in resin and maybe make a night light or something with a light. I think it would look funky and maybe make the colors pop through with the light shining behind it. I'd love to have one of those. Could be used for Thanksgiving or any fall occasion.

    Absolutely worth it! I loved how this came out! Beautiful work! (Couldn't really tell much difference in the sound quality at the end, but then I'm just listening with little speakers in my laptop, which are not exactly top quality... 😉)

    Absolutely gorgeous! Brings aAutumn right into the home. I also enjoy your presentations of your sponsors. They’re the few commercials I don’t mind watching

    That is in my top 5 favorite creations you have made.. A thin dowel rod drilled through the lip of the smaller bowl then set on top of the larger bowl, then taped down so it don't shift would be my method.. OH!!! That one leaf is a "Ginkgo" It is one of the oldest tree species in the world second to conifers (Pine, spruce, cedar & fir).. loved watching & thank you for sharing...

    aww what a shame about the tape. can you repour resin again once you've taken that off? or will it always show the layers? no idea just wondering cos that would have made for an easier project

    I definitely think if you'd wanted to get that same glossy finish, you could probably just put gloss over it, right? I'm not savvy into all this wood, coating stuff but I'm sure I've seen people use a gloss coat or similar just to top off a great project. That or another thing layer of resin. Anyways, I think this project is one of my favorites of yours now, very stunning! I think it'd be a great bowl to eat roasted pumpkin seeds out of, you know, if resin was food safe LOL! Wonderful video again, I watched it all the way through! ❤️

    Always love your videos Nick but this one hit my ‘arrgh’ button as i kept yelling at you on the screen (you couldn’t hear me) “why didn’t you just pre pour an inch or 2 in the bottom of the big bowl wiff leaves innit then when cured sit the small bowl on that with some kinda weight in it THEN fill up the sides with more leaves n resin?”😆😀 great result anyway and yes you avoided a double-pour…

    Dude you feeling a little under the weather? You sound a little poorly. If so, get well soon my friend. Also I recommended you for a tv show (Handmade: Britains Best Woodworker) a while back. Did you hear anything in the end?

    This was a great project and I loved it! Instead of buffing and waxing the turned bits try brushing them with a super thin layer of resin. You'll get the shine. :) much love!!!

    Absolutely stunning! That bowl takes the cake. Would love to see more of those bowls made and available in your shop. It sort of reminds me of those wax paper leave preservations that we had to do when we were in kindergarten or 1st grade. But taken up to the max level.

    Probably a good idea to pick a vacuum dessicator. Could probably make do with just a basic vacuum chamber, which I seem to recall you already had. Low pressure will pull water vapour out of just about anything.

    Fun fact:
    The yellow fan leaves are from a tree called Ginkgo Biloba. It's a tree that's native to China but can be found other places. The Chinese have used it as part of traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Today people use it for memory support and brain health. The tree produces a nut that's edible in small amounts. The husk of the nut smells exactly like dog excrement when the nuts fall from the tree and the outer husk begins to rot. Ginkgo Biloba is also the last living species in the order of Ginkgoales. Which appeared about 300 million years ago.

    Could you not have simply done successive layered resin pours, to build up the bowl from the base??😂 Loved the contraption, nonetheless, beautiful bowl.

    Ginkgo biloba, that’s the name of that tree. 🌹❣️One of my favourite. The leaves are used in medicine. I think it’s supposed to promote brain health.
