Damn this looks so good. My only reservation was a manual reel might be annoying to use. Hopefully there’s a bigger 100ft one variant soon. But for now I think this is the route I’m going! Thanks as always.
Manual reels are annoying, but one thing about them the hose reels in way more uniform and nice on them. Retractable ones being so much narrower they don’t reel in as uniform.
I have the same but different brand. Got it for $94 on sale 2 weeks ago. Already converted it to my Comet 1700 with their hose. If you let it unwind uncontrolled, lookout, it’s got some danger to it. Ask me how I know. Not much of a pain to Frankenstein but had to order npt 15mm connectors. Works great!👍🏽
Be careful with that as it’s not meant for pressure washers. I know a few who have had them blow up on them. This one is built for 4k PSI and meant for water. I do know many who used air hose reels and it’s working others not so much.
I purchased one of these back in June and am just now getting around to setting it up. The big issue is that the supplied male QD doesn't lock into the female on the reel. I have an email in to the manufacturer. I will have to try the leader hose trick once I get that fixed.
This is an issue across many quick connects. Many do not work with each other has to do with the diameter tolerances and even sometimes length. More than likely the included male quick connect is not the same company as the one on the reel. I have had several times some of the Amazon adapters won’t fit my MTM quick connects.
Are you saying you could use a 1/4 inch hose or a 3/8 I have a Cox reel MP - N - 350 and I actually have a 3/8 x 75 hose the connection on your video seems a lot different. Would love to discuss it more with you.
The Blushield hose I was using is 3/8, but 75ft wouldn’t fit here only 50ft would fit. If you have 1/4 hose probably would fit at least 60ft. All the fittings are standard 3/8 threading and quick disconnects. Most normal 1/4 hoses still use 3/8 threaded ends or they use m22 fittings like the Uberflex in the video. I have seen some 1/4 hoses have 1/4 fittings so it all depends on the one you have.
It’s rated for 4k PSI, but myself I never try to get within 20% of the max pressure. Depends on the gas pressure washer as well 3k psi and less it should work, it I have never run at that pressure to know. I stick around 1k psi for car washing.
It doesn’t fit perfect you would have to use the processes I used for the Uberflex in this video. The m22 area is too big to fit into the housing so you have to get inventive to hook it up.
That’s weird was it the Fixfans model? I know there are a few other brands out there that look the same, but don’t have that hook. If it is I would reach out to them.
@@CarsWithKeav Thanks for the reply, upon further research I've chosen the "Wojet" reel due to a bunch of recent reviews of the Fixfans inlet assembly failing, It's not an easy fix or an available part. The Wojet has a simple 3/8" inlet and with one M22 to 3/8" fitting one can fit the M22 from an Uberflex with no modifications and no bends. Thanks again for your videos sir!
I’ve used this reel for about a month. It leaks where the line connects to the reel on the U pipe that the m22 quick connect goes into. I recommend caulking or using some type of sealant below the threaded end that connects to the reel itself. Trust me, do it before you hook the hose up and get it wound. I’m still having trouble with mine. I truly regret it at this point.
@@CarsWithKeavyeah I tightened it too. There’s a review on Amazon where a guy bought 2 that leaked. It’s really hurting my business at this point. I like it other than that. I even tried putting a new O ring in it. Idk, I guess they can’t all be right. I’m just unlucky.

Nice informative video and as always love the outakes. Did you have a review on the BluShield Aramid Braided Rubber Pressure Washer Hose? Whats the main benefits over the uberflex? I have been looking at this retractable reel myself. The reel is priced well and the main thing i was looking at was the weight as well because it does not come in super heavy.
I actually did a video on that hose and compared it to Uberflex and other hoses as well. Main benefit is weight and diameter. ANother great benefit is it acts like a big heavy 3/8 just laying on the ground, but is much lighter and I think more flexible. th-cam.com/video/cuw8ps0h_XE/w-d-xo.html
@@CarsWithKeav Thanks for the video link i check it out. All the items are being documented in my mind lol until i can afford the upgrade as prioritizing other items. Though curious with the hose as paired with the reel is better. Cheers
@@ShasCarDetailing if looking at buying a hose and a reel this might be a better choice. amzn.to/3TTdOgV It’s a little more than the combo I made, but it’s all put together already and it’s a great brand.
@@CarsWithKeav do you know what the weight is? The reason being is i'm wanting to build some sort of cart that can house a pressure washer, reel and garden hose reel that i can lift in and out of my truck as i do not want it fixed down. So as i am lifting it up and down i am trying to shave of as much weight as possible. The manual cox reel comes in at 18 pounds which i prob attach the garden house but like the idea of a retractable for the pressure washer as was not too much heavier. However if that reel was over 30lbs i would not consider it and go with other reel if that makes sense. But yes i saw that reel and looks good but could not find out the weight?
@@ShasCarDetailing Scratch that I just checked and the listing says polyester so doesn’t sound like it’s the Kevlar hose. The fixfans I reviewed is 25 lbs as retractable will be heavier due to the mechanisms involved. A manual reel will be much lighter. On a cart hate to say it the Manual reels are going to fit way better. The retractable ones stick out to far in my opinion. Unless you can get it mounted inside and not hanging off the side.
Going to be honest I have no clue. It’s usually the reverse everybody wants to convert an air hose reel to pressure washer since they are so much cheaper. Most just hook up and hope and pray it works I know converting from air to water most change out some gaskets to better ones. The pressure washer reel might hold up without changing anything, but I can’t say for sure.
@@gearlstrickland3365 I mean it all depends on the reel. Some have quick connects built in and others have 3/8 npt. You would have to use air fittings and quick connects to get it to work.

I’ve been looking for a retractable hose reel. This looks easy enough too. Do you have to mount or can I sit it on the ground until I find the perfect wall spot?
Can you please help me to understand mounting this? Did you mount this into Sheetrock? All I have is sheetrock in my garage and I don't see how that will support this weight
My wall for the wash setup has no drywall it is all 1x12 boards and I lagged the bolts into that. If I’m drywall best to have really good anchors and two of the bolts in the stud. You could also anchor a wood board to the studs over the drywall to have something to lag into.
@@CarsWithKeav the reel came with these fat bolts that have a flat tip, and tight groves not like a wood screw has. Could I still use that mount the base into the 2x4 that is going to be screwed into the studs?
@@brandonnguyen1486 I used my own lag bolts. The mounting bracket is a bit too wide for a single 2x4 the holes would be too close to the edges or beyond the edges.
I have not had any back pressure issues and do not have any breaker or preventers. I have tried probably 20 different pressure washers without issue. Well either it hasn’t happened or it has and my piping was strong enough to withhold it.
After I get these new pressure reviews done I’m going to look into vacuum reels. Giraffe tools just came out with an all in one unit, but I have no idea how good. I’m also not that knowledgeable with vacuums so got to research before I start reviewing.
If I was running a 100 feet of Kobrajet blue jacket I would go with a cox real probably. 50 feet and a light hose retractable all the way for me. Nothing is better than an IK foamer that I have tried. As a sprayer I like the old Solo which they don’t sell anymore. You’ll just have to wait till November to find out about the new IK battery sprayer being delayed till 2025. 🤣🤣
It would not as the max rotations stop right around 60 feet. Even though it’s a smaller diameter it would still require the same amount of rotations. Somebody tried a 75ft hose and it left them with 10ft left to reel in.
Hey Keav, did you ever try the MTM Manual reel? Do they actually make there own or is it the same one a lot of people sell on amazon? Unfortunately I keep getting a leak on the swivel as I think the O-rings are not intended for high-pressure. I’ve replaced them and it still starts to leak again. I am unsure on that I know some have tried to turn air hose reels into poressure washer reels, but I never went down that path. I hear its better to stay closer to 800 PSI versus 1k PSI and you tend to have less issues. Maybe somebody in the comments will be able to help. I know I have seen many nightmares with parts blowing failing and leaking and a few where parts blew off. Many end up no longer connecting the pressure washer and just use the reel for the hose storage then take it out each time to use.

@@CarsWithKeav in the owners manual page 5 under item 4 they mentioned the usage of 65 foot hose to rotate to 22. probably you are right it may not take 10 more feet.
Yes it would, but it would need to be anchored to the reel somehow in order for the pulling and pulling to work or it’s just going to unwind like a tornado.
@@CarsWithKeav I am planning to use it with a power cable that is going to run along the ceiling and into the reel. So I would need to anchor the cable to the reel itself, or would the anchoring to the ceiling achieve the same effect?
@@Nick19837 Problem is you can’t anchor it to anything, but the reel. If you anchor to the wall it won’t retract it will just get stuck and not spin. Only way to get a power cord to work on a reel properly is with one designed for it so the cord can’t get all twisted up and you don’t have to unravel fully every time you want to use it’s biggest problem is not too many empty ones out there and they come with the cords already on the reel. I have been looking for a solution, but very few 12AWG power cord reels out there that are budget friendly. You could anchor it to the reel leaving a little slack unplug it the retract then plug back in, but the slack would have to be minimal as it will fling around when retracting and get caught on something or damaged by hitting things.

Manual reels are annoying, but one thing about them the hose reels in way more uniform and nice on them. Retractable ones being so much narrower they don’t reel in as uniform.
@@CarsWithKeav With this in mind, you are on team retractable or will you switch out the the manual reel in the future?
@@mytrung I’m always retractable if it is possible. As long as it can handle the pressure rating I’ll be using.

Works great!👍🏽
That’s quite a savings, what brand?
@@OldDetailer ReelWorks Air Hose Reel 3/8" Inch x 50' Foot Heavy Duty Industrial Max 300PSI Flex Hybrid Polymer Hose
@ cool believe it or not my cock’s real 3/8 x 50 actually holds 3/8 x 75
Can you use this reel with a gas power washer
It’s rated for 4k PSI, but myself I never try to get within 20% of the max pressure. Depends on the gas pressure washer as well 3k psi and less it should work, it I have never run at that pressure to know. I stick around 1k psi for car washing.
Will this reel work with the active 2.3 included hose?
It doesn’t fit perfect you would have to use the processes I used for the Uberflex in this video. The m22 area is too big to fit into the housing so you have to get inventive to hook it up.
My 100ft hose is now damaged, I would like to upgrade to 150 ft. Kevlar sounds good. Do you have a link ?
I have not been able to find one at 150ft. They have 200ft, but very very expensive.
My hose reel didn't come with the 3/8 hook quick connect for the hose.
That’s weird was it the Fixfans model? I know there are a few other brands out there that look the same, but don’t have that hook. If it is I would reach out to them.
Does it have the option to mount it to a horizontal surface or is it only wall mountable? Thanks for the video, it's REALLY helpful.
It can be mounted horizontal based on my experience with it. The arm can be repositioned.
@@Thylacine1 Very nice! I’ll have to look into that one.
Weird have had this on the wall for 6 months so far and no leaks. I did take pliers and tighten that as much as I could before setting everything up.
@@vancelee3506 I’m sure the manufacturing tolerances are not the best. What about Teflon tape or plumbers putty on the threads? I know it’s a tight spot to do that.
this was made for detailing so i understand but I wish there was a 200ft 3/8 option so I didn't have to use a manual reel for my rig
Me too! I think it’s the amount of spring force needed to be able to retract that distance of hose?

@@CarsWithKeav thank you again brother for the reply love the videos
Keav is there anything thing you would have to do to a water hose reel to use it for a air hose reel?
Going to be honest I have no clue. It’s usually the reverse everybody wants to convert an air hose reel to pressure washer since they are so much cheaper. Most just hook up and hope and pray it works I know converting from air to water most change out some gaskets to better ones. The pressure washer reel might hold up without changing anything, but I can’t say for sure.
So you can use it or do you have to modify?
@@gearlstrickland3365 I mean it all depends on the reel. Some have quick connects built in and others have 3/8 npt. You would have to use air fittings and quick connects to get it to work.
Would love to know how that new Giraffe Retractable Pressure washer hose reel compares. (4000psi model) Seems to be the same concept for less money. Unsure if the hose included is a good quality. Would love for someone to review and let us know.
Made a video on that one here th-cam.com/video/xZhRynRcC1c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hKHzWdxBr7hxR3_c It’s okay kind of flimsy and the hose to me is no good to me. It’s about half the size and weight though which is nice. Only thing that sucks is they raised the price since the video it was only $125 then. The Fixfans is much more durable and will hold any hose you want easily. The work it takes for the Giraffe to use other hoses is a good bit. @@CarsWithKeav Ah, good to know. The new one seem to have a better hose. But the reel looks to be the same. So your review is still relevant. Thanks a bunch.
@@david-iam No problem.
Would I be able to get away with a Adams 60ft hose using this?
Should fit that no problem. I still have room with my 50 foot in there.
Have you reviewed the 3/8 x 100' uberflex hose? Curious how it is vs kobrajet and blue shield
I have not yet, but sounds like something to look into.
I’ve been looking for a retractable hose reel. This looks easy enough too. Do you have to mount or can I sit it on the ground until I find the perfect wall spot?
It will need to be secured to something very heavy as the tension to unlock and pull the reel would make it impossible just sitting in the floor.
The mounting bracket is a bit too wide for a single 2x4 the holes would be too close to the edges or beyond the edges.
do you have a vacuum breaker or backflow preventer at the spigot/hose bib? do you get any back pressure of water squirting out at any couplers?
I have not had any back pressure issues and do not have any breaker or preventers. I have tried probably 20 different pressure washers without issue. Well either it hasn’t happened or it has and my piping was strong enough to withhold it.
I would love to find an affordable DIY 1.5 inch 50 foot vacuum hose reel.

Hello ... any idea if 1/4 hose 100ft would retract properly on this reel ?? .. Thanks !!
I built a pressure washer set up using the Merlin retractable air hose reel from Harbor freight. Unfortunately I keep getting a leak on the swivel as I think the O-rings are not intended for high-pressure. I’ve replaced them and it still starts to leak again. Can you or anyone recommend a replacement swivel or some other way to deal with this? TIA.
Many end up no longer connecting the pressure washer and just use the reel for the hose storage then take it out each time to use.
thank you for all the testing. What quick connect you used for the Aramid to the reel quick connect. female 3/8 to what? NPT? by the way hard to find 50 footer one.. only 75. I am going to test your idea that 75f can fit. Also 23 turns is the max this can be wound. will not go more 🙂
I used female 3/8 not to 3/8 male plug QD. It should fit only thing I’m not sure about is will 23 rotations be enough for 75 foot to reel in.
@@CarsWithKeav in the owners manual page 5 under item 4 they mentioned the usage of 65 foot hose to rotate to 22. probably you are right it may not take 10 more feet.
@@nick-3808 You get to be the guy that proves them wrong now!
If I used this with a hose that's not connected to the supply line on the reel unit, will the retraction system still work?
