    Hey Patrick - reading your book now, love your work! What would you say to some sleep doctors that say the "TikTok trend" of mouth taping during sleep is dangerous? I'd like to start doing that because I do often wake up with a dry throat or mouth, but want to make sure I'm being safe.

    Yes - Buteyko IS THE BEST for FUNCTIONAL BREATHING - a foundation for the Breath. The same we need to have in physical work-outs. Corework for breathing! NOT Breath-work - sorrily we are not even told the differences.

    I fully agree with uising your nose to breath, but I see Patrick when he speaks takes breaths through his mouth? is it ok when talking?

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not ideal @grime7002 and Patrick works hard to nose breathe full time.
      Unfortunately, due to his own sinus issues and the effort of regular public speaking, sometimes mouth breathing is unavoidable.
      While he knows wonderful nose unblocking exercises (th-cam.com/video/cU4ls5ku4Rg/w-d-xo.html) that's not always possible mid-speech. 😀
      But that is part of all of our breathing journeys. We're not perfect and can never be, but as long as we know our breathing will fluctuate and try our best to do it right, we'll be fine.

  • @user-iu3go1qf8s

    I know this is excellent stuff but I can't do it!!! Any attention to my breathe makes my body panic. I'd love to be able to practice Buteyko breathing. I live in Ballymote Sligo. Are there any live classes I could attend to make sure I learn it correctly. I follow online but still the body panics. I taped my lips together many years ago and woke up in such a panic. But I do agree with the principles. How do I get to breathing less safely.

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi @user-iu3go1qf8s
      We offer live online Zoom classes for panic and anxiety sufferers through Buteyko Clinic International.
      buteykoclinic.com/clinic-with-patrick-mckeown/#
      Next class for Anxiety is on Wednesday 28 June, 3-5pm (London, UK time).
      It is difficult to do certain types of functional breathing for people prone to anxiety or panic disorder.
      We would usually advise those with the disorder to stay away from long breath hold exercises as they can instigate a panic attack.
      Also, taping the mouth can work on it's own but is mainly effective when combined with daily functional breathing exercises. Practicing the exercises daily should be the priority.
      Our breathe light exercise practiced twice daily at least (morning and evening) for 20-30 minutes should really help.
      It's about creating a tolerable 'air hunger' (the feeling that you need to breathe) without pushing you too far.
      th-cam.com/video/CdPpV32cM0I/w-d-xo.html
      Also, all exercises can be found on the OA app. Available to download here:
      📱 Android Play Store:
      play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oxygen.advantage
      📱 Apple store:

    Why is it that when we do some Wim Hof style breathing technique that we can feel a sense of calm after a few cycles?

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Obviously breathing varies from person to person
      @carl8568 but hyperventilation is a type of stressor on the body.
      So we might be surprised if people can find it calming or relaxing.
      We use different stressor exercises (e.g. long breath holds) to invoke positive physical changes. This is similar to those using hyperventilation for that same reason.
      While hyperventilation is not for everyone as it can be a very extreme stressor, those who can deal with it are often able to use it to make positive changes.
      Once you pass the point of fear with such things, it can be a very calming and uplifting experience, knowing your body is going to benefit.

    Hey Patrick! Quick question: Why should the BOLT score be 40 seconds at maximum? I've seen people online talking about the Buteyko Method saying that the Control Pause could be as high as 120 seconds (which is crazy). But i was thinking, why is it that more ins't better?

    • @lchris33
      @lchris33 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @OxygenAdvantage

      Hi Gabriel. The BOLT score at 40 seconds is just an indicator that you show no signs of dysfunctional breathing and breathing is optimal. It could be above 40, but it doesn't need to be. Try not to get too hung up on the BOLT score, it's just a measurement. What's more important is how you feel after the exercises. :)
