    Those are every Saturday night flashbacks! 😆😆😆 My mama made sure I had a fresh press every Sunday morning, so Saturday nights were hair therapy sessions as she called them. She took her time doing my hair, and she talked to me, like deep conversations about life, about the previous school week. I loved that time. Although I was an only child til 18, I enjoyed conversations with her where I had her undivided attention. No TV, just the radio playing low in the living room. We'd have to go turn it up and down depending on what was playing lol. Over 30 yrs since I got a relaxer and started doing my hair myself and I still wish I could go back to those Saturdays with my mom. 💗💗💗

    I just want to say, as a white woman who is an aspiring hairdresser that wants to learn everything about working with natural hair because it's underrepresented in the field as a whole, your videos stand apart from the rest. I hope to be a part of someday closing the gap in hair salons and "specializing" in natural hair. I want it to be normal for everyone of every color and hair type to go to the same salon to meet their hair needs and desires. I want to see an old white lady getting her roots touched in the chair next to a little black girl getting her first sew in. It's not like places like that don't exist, but its certainly not common either and I want to work towards it being the norm - where working with natural hair as a hairdresser isn't a "specialty" or something only hairdressers of color can do, but as much common knowledge as any other hair type. All the educational and tutorial videos I find usually speak directly to people of color, assuming the viewer has some basis of knowledge or experience to start with as an owner of natural hair themselves. Your videos are so helpful because you explain everything so clearly so that even someone like me with thin, fine, Caucasian hair can understand and learn from your videos to the benefit of their future natural-haired clients. So, thank you for being who you are.

      I used to go to the JC Penney salon before it closed down and it was a mixed salon. All different hair types but at the time, only the black hairdressers were able to do my relaxers. This was before I went natural. But it was cool seeing all races in one salon.

      @@PicturesqueBeauty98 it wasn't a stereotype. I never understood why ppl let what others so with their hair bother them. My hair used to be halfway down my back & 1 day I went to the salon after my FAV Cousin died & cut it AAAALL off. It must've been about half an inch long. When my family saw me, they dragged me to hell & back. They talked about me like I was a dead smashed dog in the street. I was so happy when I left the salon, I felt light & free, & I was so excited for them to see Me after. I was so sad after I chop it off that it sent me back into depression.
    Folks need to learn how to drink water & mind their business & BE KIND. Not everyone is bothered by cutting their hair off. & sometimes the hair needs to be cut so it can be healthy. Ppl associate long hair as being healthy when it can be the TOTAL opposite.

      With a story like yours, my focus would be on if you're mentally okay. Doing something like that after a traumatic event might lead to regret later, so I wouldn't talk down to someone who's cut a significant amount of their hair, but I'd ask them if they're truly happy with the new style and are certain it won't be something they regret (not just smiling to hide the regret from others so they don't hear "I told you so", or something similar that makes them feel worse and hide that regret even more). If they're truly confident in their decision, then the rest isn't my business and I'm happy they love their new style. I'm also truly sorry for your cousin's passing and I hope you're doing well.

      I relate so strongly to this! Always had long hair until college, and since then I choose to cut it off over and over again because I love short styles…. I'm growing it out now, but not for myself and my own peace of mind… No, I'm doing it for my family, so that I don't have to hear their mouths about it any longer! And that sucks, because I see a beautiful hairstyle like the one in this video and I WANT IT for myself! But I'm so petrified of all the noise from my family that I choose not to do what I want! And I hate that about myself!!! 😡

    • @sexytiffanymtsu
      @sexytiffanymtsu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

You absolutely slay everything you do but considering you slay every. single. bob, it's no wonder everyone wants one from you. They always look amazing and you can see the vision, every time you say what a client has asked for, you deliver. I can throw in 2 cents and say it's not just one ethnicity that places importance on not cutting it off. When I cut off 2 feet of the most unhealthy hair, my family was....not happy. But now it's almost as long again, but looking healthier than ever because I'm learning how to care for my curls, and how to use heat. I've visited the Caucasian hair pages for Curly Girls, and there's still just so much internalized crap coming out, because straight hair is still preferred over naturally curly hair, or not making a big change in Caucasian hair as well. I have beautiful curls. But only get hair compliments if I've taken heat to it, or put it in a vintage style. It took years and a huge chop to undo the damage I'd done. So thank you DTH and everyone on the comments for having a positive place to go to learn more about hair. Because all hair is good hair. And if you hate your hair, you're hating a part of yourself.

You come across as very accepting and letting people live their lives and make their own decisions is something that shines through in every video. Furthermore, I just like seeing the things you do with hair. I’m mixed race, black mother who grew up in the Caribbean, but I was raised in northern Europe. On my mother’s island, most people are natural (although nobody refers to it that way), but they do like their rollers and braids. I referenced your DIY haircut video on Friday. My ends needed to be trimmed. That video was so helpful.
    Oh, and I’m using actual hair shears now and not kitchen scissors ✂️ ☺️

    After watching your videos, I started just washing my hair daily and letting it air dry. I also put castor oil on my scalp after the shower. My hair grew so long! I get a haircut and overall color every 6 weeks too (brown, close to my natural color). I’m so thankful I found your channel. It seriously helped me repair my hair after years of dying it bleach blonde.

    Dear Kee, I just wanted to pop in and say that I love your content!! Even though I have straight hair, I discovered your channel during quarantine and your soothing way of narrating through the videos (plus your positivity) really helped with my anxiety. As I've been following you for quite some time now, I've noticed that you worry a lot about the importance of keeping the hair moisturized, and recently I've been concerned about something that I wanted to ask you regarding that. Do you have any tips to keep your hair and scalp healthy while swimming regularly? I started going to swim for 30 minutes 2-3 times a week back in October, and ever since I've noticed that my hair has grown quite weak. I know chlorine is possibly the closest chemical to bleach there is, but I'm still hoping to find some tips that will stop it from completely ruining my hair. Sorry for the length of the comment, and thank you in advance!! Big hug!

      Hi beautiful! I also swim a few times a week and I actually wear a swim cap and it works really well. I put on a satin scarf 1st and then the swim cap and make sure that it is over my ears and all the air is pushed out of the swim cap. Pull the cap down low over your ears that helps a lot. I will send you the link right now. Make sure you also deep condition every time you wash your hair and use a really really thin layer of Jamaican black Castor oil on your roots especially when you are wearing ponytails because it can be very heavy.

    Hey Kee!!! I love your videos and they are so inspiring. I actually trimmed my ends after watching your video and it really helped. I was so proud of myself! 😌 I have a question (if you could please help me🙏🏾) my daughter is 2 and she has A LOT of hair and wash/ styling day is a hassle bc her curls are so tight and she has a big afro. I wanted to know if you could recommend something that could soften her hair to make it so less traumatizing for her and me. It literally takes me hours because I try my best to be as gentle as possible. But she hates it.🥴I’m open to all ideas. Thanks so much!!!
