    Jeffrey Combs actually wanted to make Shrane a member of the cast, not just a recurring character. Personally i think that would have been great.

    I really like the fact that Shran maintained extreme, and absolutely justified, skepticism until he verified with Tucker. The Andorians did not always play nice with Humans, but Shran had for damn sure come to respect them. That little detail is one of the points of fine writing this and other pre-enterprise Trek shows had. It is never about the spectacle, but about the little nuances that brought it all to life.

    • @TheAndroidNextDoor
      @TheAndroidNextDoor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I liked his reaction too when Tucker verified. He almost looked terrified as if he could ignore it as potential misinformation until Tucker verified he believed Soval. At that point, the third party both Vulcans and Andorians could, if not trust, at the very least respect, confirmed his worst fears.

    • @BlindDragoon
      @BlindDragoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      It really did play well to Archer and Tucker's character as commanders.
      The Andorians were known to be a distrusting species, both in Enterprise and in TOS, always looking to see how the other side might be trying to trick them, just in case.
      But Archer and Tucker had been nothing but forthcoming and truthful, even when it hurt their own causes and "allies" that when Tucker said he believed it, Shran instantly realized that Soval might be telling the truth as well.
      Shran knew the enterprise was a ship filled with integrity, and that integrity outweighed his distrust of Vulcans.

    My biggest regret is that Enterprise's best ongoing subplot never finished... this scene was one of the many steps showing how the Federation happened. Note, the Andorians did not respond until TRIP speaks up. Shran does NOT trust the Vulcans, but... he does trust Archer and Trip. Humans were the newcomers that got along with most everybody, humanity's entry into interstellar politics got old enemies talking again.... progress made... real peace achieved. Little by little, with steps like these, the Federation was forming. It progresses slowly over the seasons... and gets cut short when the show got cancelled. Too bad, this was the real plot of Enterprise imo.

    I just LOVE me some Star Trek cosmic nebulas, they're all so colorful, dense, and outright opaque, even up close ... so NOTHING like actual cosmic nebulas. Cosmic nebulas actually have a much lower density than our earthly air and would be absolutely invisible to the naked eye up close. No spaceship can hide in them anymore than we can hide in air. However, they're denser than the absolute vacuum of space and very large, which is why we call them nebulas.

    Shran: "Do you have...any idea what will happen when the IMPERIAL GUARD RETALIATES? IT WILL BE A DISASTER FOR BOTH OUR WORLDS!"
    Shran didn't want war and was smart enough to realize that a war between Andoria and Vulcan would only end in the blood, bones, and tears of both species.

    What I find interesting about this scene is that when Shran demands to know why Soval is betraying his own people by informing him of the impending invasion, Soval stubbornly adheres to the Vulcan philosophy of logic and come up with a practical response by saying that the Vulcans are counting on the element of surprise, and that meeting resistance would force them to reconsider.
    I feel like it would have been good growth for his character to come out and say that it was simply the right thing to do, that he wasn't doing this out of logic, but out of an emotional need to repay the debt that he owed Admiral Forrest for saving his life and as justice for being betrayed by his own government.
    His time living on Earth has affected him in more ways than one, and has even changed him for the better. Throughout the course of the show, he went from a politician who toed the party line of the Vulcan High Command to someone who gave tacit support for the Enterprise's mission, and finally defecting from his own people to do the right thing and attempt to stop an unjustified attack on another world.
    It would have been nice to see him come out and admit it, rather than adhere to that stubbornness that rivals that of a Tellarite. Logic may have saved the Vulcan people from destruction, but emotions like pride and arrogance still run rampant within their civilization, especially so in the 22nd Century, as we saw in this story arc. Even the Logic Extremists from Star Trek: Discovery were not immune to this.
    But if more Vulcans humbled themselves and admitted that sometimes their actions are borne not out of logic, but emotion, they could truly learn to balance emotion and logic. That way, they can still retain some emotion without letting it control them, to help them navigate situations with more nuance than before and make better choices. After all, the logical choice is not always the right one.

    I know it has been pointed out a million times, but why would an Andorian call a human "pink skin"? The Vulcans have the same skin colour, and the Andorians met them first. They would therefore have to call the Vulcans pink skins, and then, as the humans showed, come up with a new clever nickname, like "noobs" or something.

    • @theevilascotcompany9255
      @theevilascotcompany9255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, the Jefferies tube nomenclature came in the original series as a nod to Matt Jefferies. Jefferies was the design artist for the series who first thought of the tubes as crawlways or access tunnels to get from one maintenance area to another. See Memory Alpha for details.
