  • What I like most about these apps is how they make parts of my job go faster so I can concentrate on the filmmaking aspects.
I don't work for any of these companies. These are merely apps that are in my kit. They are all available for iOS. Some are available on other platforms as well.
    Apps I discuss:
    - MovieSlate8
    - ScriptE
    - Scriptation
    - ScriptCalc
    - QTake Monitor
    - Vuer
    - Zoe Log
    - Unity Comm
    - MS Word
    - MS Excel
    - Notability
    - Adobe Scan
    - Adobe Acrobat
    - Artemis
    - Google Drive
    - Dropbox
    - OneDrive
Inadvertently, the app Tyme was left out. It's a task timer that is invaluable during prep. Projects can be set up with Tasks and sub-tasks. The timer updates across devices. If you want it to, it can sync with your calendar, placing the times you worked on particular tasks. Your data can be exported in a few formats if you need to submit how you spend your prep to payroll or your producers.

Good idea. Which ones should I prioritize?

@@seanpollock2792 I'd love to see onscreen walkthroughs of lining the script, like with MovieSlate8 and Scriptation, and creating the facing pages. Logging takes and lining the script are the biggest analog tasks that I have struggled to replace with a feasible digital workflow. Every time I've tried to go digital with my script notes, I feel like it just slows me down or isn't as flexible as I need so I end up going back to handwritten. Very helpful topic, thank you!

@@kathrynprice4146 The show I’m on now is wrapping up in several weeks. If I have time between then and my next show I’ll see if I can put some vids together. Thx

@@kathrynprice4146 Scriptation has added a lot of great tutorial videos on their TH-cam channel. Check them out. I'm working on some MovieSlate 8 vids. Hope to post them soon.

Hi! I’m a Script Supervisor from the Philippines and I’m about to start using Scriptation for production. Well I think its really useful plus its a good choice if transitioning to paperless on-set. I’m kinda curious with the ‘Q Take’ app coz I’ve been also figuring out on how will I get a live preview of the playbacks in my iPad for a less-hustle work. Ugh. Thanks for this though! 🙂

Hi. Scriptation is a great app. Many directors and dept heads use it too. With QTake, you wouldn't have it as part of your kit. QTake Monitor is an app that works only if the crew member in charge of playback uses the QTake system. The show I'm on currently uses it but I've been on others that use the Teredek system. Ideally you'd be on a production with proper monitors that have a hardwire feed. The image is sharper and has less chance of having delay issues. These wifi apps are good in a pinch and for getting an occasional screengrab.
