I just booked my first gig as a script supervisor. I’m transitioning from being a 1st AD, and this is a whole new learning curve. Challenge accepted!

Hi Matt, are you based in the UK? How did your first gig go?

Timothy, first, I really enjoyed your tutorial. You seem like a great guy!
Now. Can you point me to a link for the paper forms you used in the tutorial please?

What is the digital program you utilize for the breakdown?

What program do you use for script supervising?

Do you know the name of the software that Tim Hunt uses? Or any inexpensive software that I can look into?

+The Cutback Kidd Most professional script supervisors use a program called "ScriptE" (www.scriptesystems.com). I love it -- but it's not for beginners or for the faint of heart. It's expensive and complicated to learn, but once you know your way around the program, it saves you countless hours of time and effort. Just about every script supervisor I know uses ScriptE and having it is often a prerequisite for many TV jobs, especially if you're working 2nd unit. The few who don't use ScriptE tend to go for Peter Skarratt's custom templates (peterskarratt.com/) which are less expensive, but still requires you to own and know how to use FileMaker Pro. IMPORTANT NOTE: Until you've mastered the art of script supervision with pencil and paper DO NOT go digital. You will crash and burn. It happened to me and I've seen it happen to others. You can't learn a complicated software program while you're learning a complicated job. Get at least 2 years of experience under your belt doing continuity the "old school" way before you invest in any software solution.

Thank you for replying Mr. Hunt. I ended up doing it the old-school way after reading some books and just diving in. The great thing is I was a student working on student films, but even then I gained the utmost respect for Script/Continuity Supervisors. You are a true group of unsung heroes, hats off!

The program has a monthly subscription option now and a student (watermarked) version. I have found pen and paper now is not accepted but do as many short films as you can then invest

Software is expensive. You could try subscribing to Celtx because you can use the reports for script supervision

Hi Claudia. I never uploaded a transcript. But you should be able to use youtube's auto generator in the settings.

No offence... but as a DP, I couldn't help but notice the mike transmitter antenna sticking up from behind you.

None taken. That's his chord for his glasses. We used an overhead mike.

@@FilmmakerDen Ha! That's not the cord for my glasses. That's the cord for the stopwatch I've got around my neck. I agree it's annoying though. If I were the script supervisor of this video, I would have had it fixed. 😄
