    I have ADHD and meditate an hour a day. Its been pretty damn helpful.
    Its difficult especially if you have adhd but ultimately you do have the ability to do it.
    The pain of unmanaged adhd is way worse than the discomfort of meditating at first.

      If i may ask, how do you meditate or what meditation practice do you use?
      i tried so many...laying down,sitting,breath counting...just focusing on breathing, sounds...i just don't seem to find one that works for me.

      I would seriously consider vipassana, it’s sort of like a yoga nedra, the mind is occupied by bringing your awareness to sensations in the body, I am fully ADHD myself and after experimenting with different meditations, vipassana worked, the other thing is to not give up, keep meditating daily , it will happen, good luck

    Sound meditation is one of the best for us ADHDers. Our brain is wired to jump from one thing to another. There’s a meditation where you go to somewhere that’s busy like a park or a restaurant; you sit there and try to notice as many sounds as possible. Don’t define any sound just listen to everything. “Car passing” “baby crying” “dog barking” etc.
    The goal here is to exhaust your brain to the point where it has nothing to latch onto like negative and intrusive thoughts. If this doesn’t work don’t give up. There are hundreds of techniques to quite the mind so continue to search until you find your practice.

      oh wow I didn't know that this was meditation! I use this method everytime I can't sleep at night because my brain gets really loud and it helps! Now im gonna try this for my daily meditation ❤️

    whenever i meditate, i go into this half-sleep state and start hallucinating sounds, images, textures, feelings… almost like a dream without being asleep. but i feel like i’m “cheating,” because i’m not experiencing this beautiful “zen” moment. anyone else feel this way???

      The problem isn’t that you aren’t experiencing zen, it’s that you WANT to. Meditation is to let go of wanting to achieve zen, THATS when you achieve it.

    The mistake here is that you meditate with a goal in mind. You want a certain experience. And you judge yourself by comparing your experience to those goals.
    Meditation has no goals. Its not supposed to lead to a certain state. All thats needed is to sit down and try to be mindful of conciousness. If that works and leads to a beautiful state or if you cant focus for a second and feel uncomfortable doesnt matter. All is conciousness.

    Your voice alone put me into a meditation state! I was experiencing alot anxiety last night and your video popped up on my phone. I closed my eyes and listened to your voice amd it calmed me down so I could sleep. So thank you!😊 Please continue to do these type of talking videos with background music

    I had gone through 3 meditation videos and stopped within 20 seconds of each before I found this. I was feeling disappointed in myself in being unable to "calm down" and tune in, and watching your video gave me hope. Just listening to your description of ND meditation was enough to calm me down so that I could find focus. I have ADHD & ASD, too. Thank you for sharing your insight, it has been incredibly helpful!

For those whom your methods don't ring true, there's plenty of methods and thoughts to chomp on and find something that works for them. ❤

    For me sitting still and meditating is a struggle. But I find moving meditation practices helps me find that calm. I started practicing tai chi. Tai chi allows me to have a focus on the flow of the movement which reigns in the brain chaos while practicing breathing techniques. The longer you practice the movement flows smoothly and you can relax into that body mind experience. I think some probably find that with yoga. I also like to try to visualize the natural world and use breathing to “change” the visualization. So if I’m visualizing a forest, my inhale and exhale pulls and push’s the trees. If I’m visualizing a body of water, I imagine that my breathing makes the water ripple or create waves. I’m still trying to figure it out but physically moving in a flowing way helps put me into a quiet place.

    Whenever I try meditating. My brain either wanders to like 200000 different things or a legit fall asleep or fall into this half sleep where I'm daydreaming

    aum meditation is great for adhd as well. There’s so many different ways to meditate and some will suit you while others won’t, take some time to explore different types to find what works for you!

    Thank you... I've been doing meditation for a couple of years now and only recently found out that I have ADD. And now sooo many things make sense! I never understood the "having no thoughts". The brain has one job: which is Thinking. So letting it think and starting to observe the flow, just felt much more natural than to force an alternate state of mind.
    I also struggle with focus meditation (samatha / shine) when the focus is one thing only like the breath. I tried different practices and like you I find focusing on sounds great. Also: my personal favourite is body scan meditation, because I can shift my awareness to different body parts or a form of Vipassana practice, the Open Awareness Meditation, that also allows the awareness to drift to different sensations. I found both approaches very helpful.

    You know what's the worst feeling? The realization that no one understand or empathize your pain. not your family, siblings, parents and friends. Hell, not even doctors. in 3rd world country like mine, doc doesn't even know what adhd means. You are the patient, you are your own doctor. Sometime i feel like i should leave me family and stay alone for at least 1 year. I want to be that selfish. i don't want external chaos. My internal chaos is already ruining my life.

    Meditating is so difficult. To just sit still and listen to a guided meditation or try it myself and not be overwhelmed by my thoughts. I found that focused activities and movements help me so much more find that stillness. I love yoga as a daily mindfullness activity. I found that when i do yoga (especially a guided class) I at a certain point get so focused on doing the movements and breathing that I 'forget' to think. I also found a love for gardening. I sadly don't get to to this currently though. Gardening gives me sensory stimulation and movement (depending on the task), but it's also very calming for me to be in nature, hear birds and touch plants/ground. especially menial tasks that don't require a lot of brain work. And again I often get focused on the task so my brain goes quiet. I really found that doing physical movements or simple menial tasks (sometimes laborous though) that don't require me trying to force my brain to work, to think etc. Things that keep my body or hands occupied and put my focus on my body or my task, are relatively simple and sometimes even continuesly repeated help me calm donw so much and find stillness. Examples: doing a certain order of yoga poses x amount of times and really focussing on that great stretch I feel. Planting a bunch of seeds in tiny trays (filling the trays with soil, adding the seeds, covering, watering), pruning a tree, digginy holes etc.

      The trick is to force yourself to do it anyways, regardless of how difficult it is or how bad you don't want to do it.

      I need help with this sm, I have adhd and get distracted so badly when I try to study and end up drifting off and start crying bc I have to try and read smth a thousand times without getting it but I forced myself to get through three pages. Still hardly anything with the time I had but it worked but I don’t do it enough and it’s really bad bc it effects my school work

      Have you tried transcendental meditation? I also have ADHD but it’s the only method that works the best for me.

      @Lnyc14 it's been a while since my comment and I have learned a lot more. Get ready for a very long comment haha. Recently I've been finding that not forcing myself to do something makes it easier and to 'just get the work done, how doesnt matter'. I used to always tell myself 'go study, you need to study' over and over which made it even harder and even if i did, I would restart studying the same chapter 5x because i wasnt happy with the method i was using or it was boring. So I've been working more on simple transition and it not needing to be perfect. I basically try to work it in my routine. So I wake up on time, get ready, eat breakfast and go study (on a free day). I try not to think too much about it, or what i 'have' to do. Simply open my tablet and open my notes for the subject. I honestly don't really read books if I can help it. I'll use summaries and digital flashcards from other students (previous years). Or I'll let chatgpt help me. I've used it to make short summaries, flashcards of books that I can import and to just ask questions or generate images. It is a learning curve as you have to be specific and clear in what you ask. Also doing as much active learning as possible. I found that using a shorter summary from other students works best. I'll use my tablet and pen to make notes. I prefer a shorter summary as I'll be more often left wondering about what a word means or need an example and 60 pages is easier than 190. I use an app with integrated AI. So I'll read through it. I'll highlight any important parts or concepts and more often than not I'll have to use the chat assistant (in app) or chatgpt to ask what a concept means or to clarify and give an example. Then I'll write it down with my pen on the notes. If I really do need to write myself, I'll either make it really fun or super simple. If I have a lot of time and I'm really bored with the subject, I'll make really nice looking mindmips and if I have little time, I make them super simple ether using my tablet or laptop app. The thing is, when I'm unhappy with it or unsure, I tell myself to just finish it. Don't start again, but just finish it and go through the material at least once in whatever way I've chosen. If it's hard to start, set a timer for 5 to 15 minutes. Preferably a visual one so you can see the time pass. Tell yourself you just want (not need) to work for that time and if you truly want, you can stop when it ends. More often than not, you'll want to keep working cause you're over the bump. I don't use pomodoro as getting started is the hardest for me and I don't want to break my concentration. I'll usually take a little break every 1-2 hours when I feel I need it. Even set a timer for that so you don't get stuck in the break and preferably don't go on social media or whatever you tend to get stuck doing. If you can, study with someone else or just people around you in a library. If you're unable to do that, use a 'study with me' video on TH-cam. I like to use one that's 1-2 hours, has lofi music and where I can actually see the person working (not just the desk and hands) cause it feels like someone's with me. I'll purposely play the video on my phone, so I can't use it. You're still gonna have hard days and days that it won't work, but you have to learn that this is the reality. Do not hold yourself to other people's standards. My friends can easily study 10+ hours a day while I'm incredibly proud if I did 6 hours of relatively focused work on a free day. I'm proud if I even got 1 hour done on a busy day. I'll tell myself 'you did something' on days where I wasted half the day and did less than I wanted, cause I also could've done nothing. And on days I did nothing of what I wanted, I tell myself that it's okay and I probably needed the rest or I might have done something else less important that needed to be done like cleaning my room. I hope this helps in some way!!

    Intrusive images can be really distracting. I can have like whole scenes play out in my mind when I close my eyes (sometimes when they are open to too) . I think the CPTSD and PTSD plays a role in this, and our creative visual minds can really amplify it all.
    I have that thing where I hear music playing in sounds like a fan noise. So when meditating I will put on a large fan and focus my attention to the sound it makes and the music within it, the ambient sound of the fan also blocks out external noises.

      OMG I have the fan noise thing. Like, I'll be lying in bed and think I hear music, but then I listen a bit more and it's just my partner breathing next to me and my brain filling in the blanks. I get the same thing with the sound of the motorway outside (we live close enough to it that there is a constant background hum of traffic all day and night), for example.

    for me cooking something i that requires time and concentration and nice textures and i have time and preace at home to cook is my meditation because i get completely enveloped in the task in a natural way that i ve never been able to achieve in meditation
    especially with this very capitalist way we're looking at meditation practices these days where everyone is always telling you to meditate and meditate for 10 mins everyday to be more efficient and prductive at work and control your mind and blah blah blah like

    I also get distracted by visuals my eyes closed. I twice tried to meditate like 5 years ago and around 2 years ago but both times I felt so bad, nearly terrible cause I didn’t reach that blank space and focus. Now I won’t give up and try my best, now that I’m aware of ADHD.

    I like how you use the easy access to visualisation for your meditation. When I started I found the onslaught of pictures my brain would show me uncomfortable and distracting. It's usually really fast, like mutliple pictures per second of very randomn things, and only slows down a couple of minutes into the meditation. But with practice I've been able to create more distance to the automatic visualisations and - most importantly - stopped judging myself. Now when I close my eyes and the imaginery starts flashing I think of my brain as an excited little puppy that just wants to show me all the beautiful things it collected and created, while my eyes were open.

    Honey. Meditation is not about not to think. Is about observing your thoughts and breathing with them . And that is only one of the forms of meditation. Meditation also happens when you are present doing a task or when you are enyoing moments, foods, activities etc.. also to meditate dosent necessarily have to have an objective. You dont have to feel calm o relaxed afterwards. Thank u to talk about your experience and I really feel what your are saying about the flow state. Is not that you can not meditate is that the concept of meditation that you had was not right 🤭🪷 you can meditate by moving your body, by eating, by painting. What you found is your own practice of meditation. That is the real meditation practice. You don't have to turn off your toughts. ✨☺️☺️☺️🤭 just be with them.

    I struggle so much with distractibility - I am autistic as well, so that part of my brain craves routine and structure and order, but my ADHD side can't stick at anything for long enough that it becomes a routine. I tried mindfulness meditation and constantly found my attention pulled all over the place by sounds or random intrusive thoughts.

    Tried Lo-Fi beats and just walking around and when thoughts come in I have the thought then try and focus to the beat of the music like counting the time signature and honesty feels like the first time I took ADHD meds atm

    i have never felt so seen. yes to the music sounds with words ❤ i listen to it when i do my islamic prayers(so i dont feel anxious and be hyper aware of my surroundings) 😂 and i also listen to it to help me fall asleep. thank you for the video ❤

    I grappled with these same problems too. Compounded by other experiences.
    Ultimately I found that:
    Moving meditations (especially tai chi)
    And sound meditations
    (Especially singing bowls)
    Are the best for me.
    Especially when these things finish it’s insane how “empty” my thoughts are. But when I try to meditate the traditional way as you said where the goal is to just stop thinking of course it doesn’t work at all.

    I meditate while drawing in "time travel" haha. I recommend the book the zen of seeing drawing it helped me more with observation than conventional Theravada meditation

    Thank you for this video. Meditation for spiritual purposes, I feel Super guilty about it bc 1. Christians "don't meditate" 🙄 2. Unrealistic expectations on myself from religious society, my thoughts; etc.

    You guys are worried about your minds, but I'm worried about my body! I always feel a bloody strong urge to itch or move. I get aches, too, so I have to move. I feel suffocated if I close my mouth. My eyes start to hurt, so I have to open them. I get phlegm in my throat, so I have to clear it. I even feel the strong urge to fart! It's impossible for me to meditate without moving my body. I'm at ease mentally, my thoughts don't run all over the place, but my body is uncontrollable. 😢😢😢 I really want to cry as I type this.

    I need to do this more but for me a focus meditation helps me with my eyes open all i know is i have ADHD cause as an adult its hard get checked out and get actual true help like most places of lacking mental help across the board no matter what country we live in.
    When i take 3 objects and only focus on one object my vision blurs where the only thing that exists is the object which helps my own focus because all outside objects turn into a spinning vortex where thr center is the object only

    Hello I'm another woman with ADHD and autism, diagonsed last year (I was 22). I'm taking antidepressives and ADHD meds but I feel that I still need more to be regulated. I'm curious about how is your morning routine. Meditation has been imposible for years, I like the ideas that you've given. In your video about breathwork you recommended a video of 20'. Does it count as meditation?

    Meditation has been helpful but yeah i can only half way meditate which is still better than none at all

      Easy enough, since souls aren't actually real. Recognising that the mind is what the brain does is an important step towards understanding how our behaviour, our thoughts and feelings, even the ones we don't want - like intrusive thoughts and images - are all shaped by the brain.

    got halfway through your video in a meditative state and then got distracted. Maybe I'm adhd I don't know. There are so many hints but I don't wanna self diagnose.

    I always thought meditation was fake and I used working out as my “meditation” because of my adhd making my head rapid fire thoughts I guess I just have to work on it

    I find that vaping helps. The nicotine takes me to a space where I become clear, thoughtless, my inner voice is completely silenced. Intense exercise, like kick boxing helps me achieve this state too.

      Whether you’re blowing trees, staring at trees, or blowing nicotine. Staring at trees helps me especially the leaves in the wind on a sunny day

      In the short term vaping will help. In the long term nicotine makes ADHD worse.

      @@chrisvaccaro229I can agree I did take any kind of nicotine products (Vaping, smoking cigs, vaporizing Tabbaco, chewing Tabbaco, nicotine gums, snus, nicotine patches) and I can say that it is true that at the beginning nicotine helps. But especially for people with adhd it is a pretty dangerous move as you will most likely get addicted. When you are addicted nicotine will probably not decrease your stress level rather it will increase it by a lot. At some point there is no benefit with smoking anymore and you won’t get away that easily from your addiction. So in my personal opinion I cannot recommend this tho I can’t stop anyone.

    Its actually pretty common to be able to imagine, aphantasia (the word for those who can't visualize images in their minds) is less common in people.
