I have used fiber pots. They lasted 5 years so far. Really inexpensive and can get all kinds of sizes and configurations. I bought some 200 gal. Took a truck to a place that sells different types of soil by the tractor scoop. Way way cheaper than bags. Love your show man.
James, what if you shellac the heat treated pallets? Would that be a problem? Linseed oil?
💟💕♥️🤗😀💞💓❣️💗💖💝💘🥰❤️😘
What was the name of the citrus that was Mandarin - lemon - lime hybrid tree that chefs like?
Congrats Page
@8:05 into the video you point out the rusted "screws" in the metal bed. Those aren't screws, they are nuts and for under $5.00 you can buy a box of stainless steel nuts that will never rust. Replace the ones you have with stainless, or, just leave the rust which is a naturally occurring mineral
I like that this video isnt a plug for your own line of raised beds, but genuine and wholesome advice. Cheers!
bit of a plug
I think you should come up with a James Prigioni new gardener seed starter package. A few of your most favorite varieties for a new Gardener.
That's a great idea.
Tuck licking his chops thinking about eating the asparagus was all of us haha. Looks like a yummy harvest ahead!
Congratulations to the winner !
I love ALL The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni videos!
Let's Gooo!!! 😁🐕
@@jamesprigioniJames I found symphylans in my raised bed at the end of last season. About the same time you posted that you found some - what did you do? Would planting potatoes or flowers help the soil? I’m not sure what to do.
If you have an exposed edge on a metal raised bed, a pool noodle may help?
Yay, Tuck! ❤❤❤
Congratulations to the winner of last week's raised bed!
Or maybe some hose.
@@gwenkilby Good idea, more resistant to the elements.
we just built 2. of the basic raised beds out of cedar...they'll last quite abit longer. We're going to be making the PVC toppers too. Thats such a great idea, so versatile!
I always love a Tuck appearance! We just lost our best feline buddy a week ago and there is nothing like having a buddy like that to keep you company!! Thanks for the great content!!
I'm sorry about your buddy 💔❤💔
@@gwenkilby thanks!
Thanks for the garden bed give away and congrats to the winner!!!! God bless y'all and keep growing.
Congrats Pat! Happy gardening!💯
Sending love to Tuck 💯❣️❣️❣️❣️
Thanks again for sharing!
Congratulations to the winner of the raised bed.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤'s to Tuck!!!
I have 9 high metal raised beds (30-32 inches tall - from Birdies and Vego) and 10 regular galvanized metal raised beds (11-12 inches tall - no name from Amazon) in my 8500 square foot food forest. I bought all light and dark green, so they blend in better. Love that custom netting you are using in the metal raised beds. I saw that but didn't buy it. I use tulle (think bridal veil material if you are not familiar with tulle). It's so much cheaper than those custom covers and keeps the tiny pests out while letting sunshine and water in. I have also used plain wood and cedar raised beds in the past and still have 10 of them in use. I prefer the metal ones, especially the taller ones. I am 68 and they are great for senior citizens; you don't have to bend or crawl on the ground. to tend them. As always, thanks for the video, James. Happy growing!
Really useful video James, thank you!
❤❤❤ For Tuck & well done to him for picking the giveaway winner - congratulations Paj, wishing you more good luck with your gardening 👍🏻
Congratulations to the winner of the raise bed 🎉
Congrats to Padge! Enjoy your raised bed! 💜
Congrats to the winner! ☺
Thank you James and Tuck for the opportunity and the info on raised beds! 💕
Yay!!! Congrats to the winner of the raised bed!!!
In AZ, a Deaf girl I have been inspiring to try a garden designed a short raised bed using cedar cut at Home Depot plus 4 tan-colored, concrete, planter wall blocks joining the ends. No hammer and nails needed! Just assemble. Looks great and can be easily added to make various shapes and designs.
I’d love to see pictures of hers. ❤
@@nat76hill she sent me a photo of it. It is wonderful and I am not sure how to share it with others though as I live in WA state and thus cannot upload to my TH-cam the video. However, I believe if you look up the Home Depot blocks and then use imagination for 2 cedar planks on top of each other, you may have an idea how nice it looks! Her brother in law had made one like this, who lives near her mom, and he has had very good luck in Arizona with this method for over a year.
Now she and I are looking at how to water well and not on the leaves, perhaps with a timer and irrigation tubing. I am very proud of her as she is a city girl in the country and growing a tomato plant for her mom even though she herself hates tomatoes. :)
Congratulations Patch, happy growing! ❤ Tuck ❤wooden raised beds! Had them since 2004, just love the natural look! ❤ Mental ones too, have 3-different brands & happy with them all! Have galvanized bushel bins too! And a old horse trough! Variety is the spice of life! ❤🐾🐾❤️
I love all raised beds because I garden in a wheelchair. Your channel has always offered such great information and ideas. Love Tuck ❤❤❤❤
Congrats Paj on your new bed.
I think Tuck want to give away a seed starting kit.
Congrats to the winner!! Hi Tuck ♥🥬
My favorite raised beds in farming country - animal feeders and waterers. Expensive when new, but sometimes you can find used ones. Last almost forever!
Agreed. I got one about 10 years ago and it's still in great shape. A couple of years ago I bought another one at Home Depot when it was on sale for HALF PRICE! I couldn't pass that up.
Congrats Paj. Thanks James for sharing all the pros and cons of raised beds. ❤❤❤❤ for Tuck
CONGRATULATIONS to the winner 💖
nice video, glad you're showing the pro's and con's of all the types of beds you can get. A lot of the videos out there just taught the most expensive stuff you can buy as if it's the best for anyone. Not all of us want 3' tall metal beds
Congrats on winning your bed pai❤🎉
You have kept your word to do container gardening this season..kudos for that. My garden consists of dollar store stackables, big hardware store buckets, and two small elevated cedar beds. Container gardening has your Food Forest looking clean and ready for a bountiful harvest!💕💕💕💕💕
I use many of your techniques in our raised bed gardens here in East Tennessee. We use concrete blocks, 2 high, stacked, no mortar. We are going into our fifth year with them. No rust. No rot. And they stand up well when hit by a new zero turn mower.
Further north in WI...same iuse of concrete blocks but frost heave messes up walls, I have to restack every few years. But I dont have to buy new wood !
Do you have a problem with ants?
Good to know we're in southeastern Kentucky. This will be my first time gardening & I'm so excited!
We in South FL got metal hurricane shutters for free last year. Our raised beds are producing well both last year and this. Arugula, Celery, tons of tomatoes, basil, even had watermelon ! Still going strong this summer.
Let's Gooo!!!
Congrats, Patch!
Repurpose an old leaky garden hose to use as an edge protector. Slit along its length. It'll hold up to UV and time.
Tuck must be so healthy eating fresh veggies!❤❤❤ Thank you, James. 🎉
Ya gotta be careful with pallet wood. Sometimes they are treated with chemicals.
Lol...that's my mom that won the give away. If anyone cares. Her name is Paj but pronounced Page like a book. She got super excited and sent me this video since we do gardening and said check out the video. 😂
Thank you, son!
Extra hugs and kisses for Tuck! He's such a good dog.
Congrats to the winner!!
I love your videos and Tuck! Congrats to the winner! 😊❤
We gathered free heat treated pallets and nailed them together, as is, to make square raised beds. Lined the beds to contain the materials and filled with tree branches and chunk’s. Then soil, compost, peat moss and such. I’m able to stand by the raised beds to plant and harvest. Being in my 70’s, stooping or kneeling is no longer an option so the 4 pallet beds we have work great. We’re able to eat the produce directly from the garden!
Tuck is adorable. I love how he enjoys his vegetables. 😍 Great video, very nice to have the pros and cons of each type.
stone can come in many varieties, be it natural rocks, baked bricks or concrete!
might wanna cover that stuff in another video!
I really like the burnt wood bed. It’s more organic looking than metal.
Congratulations Patch!! Enjoy your Raised bed! :)
❤Tuck looks so alert and full of energy this spring, he seems like he's feeling good. I'm glad to see him happy!❤
Congratulations Paj. Thank you for another great video.❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤ for the Mighty Tuck, Precious Prince of Produce!
Built mine from discarded metal roofing sheets from a skip. Sanded off any rust plus some zinc paint. Lined with foam sheet from discarded fruit boxes plus old plastic film.
Basically free, 12 years ago and no sign of deterioration yet - still going strong.
Congrats, Paj!!!! 🎉
Congratulations to Pag! And 💕💕💕💕💕 to Tuck! This is a really good one on the pros and cons of the different raised beds. Ours are made by Vita, a resin key hole style we got on sale at Costco. They are 2’ high. And holding up well so far. My neighbor has the metal ones you have now. I really like the look, and all of the accessories that are available. Very cool!
Congrats Patz!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 woohoo good for you! I would like to see hand tools like pruners or your amazing fertilizer!!!
Congrats Paj
That was very informative and how exciting for Paj congrats!
Congratulations Paj 🎉
I stumbled upon your videos while looking for gardening tips. Just a quick thought. I think you're an amazing human being. Unfortunately u can't give someone too much praise without them thinking you're crazy. But I can read people well and you're a cut above. I see your passion and your joy when the little things go right. It's so true. You said it, so much goes wrong it's a blessing when things go right. It is such a joy to come home from this crazy world and watch your videos. You have great advice for us all. Stay just the way you are . People are so weird and judgemental. Don't let that bother you. Everyone wants to be a pro...follow your heart. Not theirs. God bless u. Thanks for your help.
James, you and Tuck rock. Thanks for the great content, I've learned so much from you, my garden is transformed!
Great video as always! Congrats to the giveaway winner! 💚🙌🏽
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
❤❤❤ congratulations
Your excitement is contagious James. Thank you for the great video. We have a freeze coming tonight in MA so I’ve got everything covered. I hope they live. ❤for Tuck.
Hi,
I live in an apartment, but I find your videos, refreshing.

Congrats to Paj Clackum!
Thank you for sharing James & Tuck! 😊
❤❤❤🐶🐾 Love to see little Tuck
Your food forest is going to look so good this spring and summer!
Congrats Paj!!! Nice job!!
❤❤❤ your knowledge is the only giveaway I need! Thanks for all you do! Hey Tuck!❤️❤️❤️
Your videos are always so educational. I always learn something new. Thank you for breaking this down at times I get so confused on what bed to buy and size and so on and so on. They are so many now to choose from it can get confusing. I was having issues with bugs on my veggies but since I bought the cover you mentioned in one of your videos - I no longer have any issues with bugs. Thank you so much!!! Love Tuck he's the best!!
Tuck is such a great friend...Thanks for the tips..best timing, about to redo in wood or going metal...have a great season Sir
Congratulations Pag!!
Congrats!!!
I used old cedar fencing that was being discarded. I had 2x4 s as well as the 6' x6" boards. I made my beds 18" high, with reinforced corners using the 4x4 posts. I have had these beds 5 years and are still in service.
Me too. Got mine at a construction surplus store near where I lived. Great bargain. Lasts forever.
Congratulations Patch
Congratulations 🎉
I love gardening in my method of full control and cheap cost of raised bed, we grow tons of food each year most of it for free. Hi Tuck
Congrats!!🌱🌱🌱
Congratulations Paj!
Thanks for another great video James and Tuck! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love you and Tuck! Wonderful video, James. Thank you! ❤❤❤❤🥕🥕🥕
My wife and I invested in the 10 in 1 vego bed. We got 3 of them. It’s been 3 weeks and we haven’t had any problems with them bending or anything. They felt flimsy at first but once you get soil in them and it packs in from watering they’re very strong and look great. The screws rusting was the only thing I could potentially see going wrong down the road. Were happy with them so far!
❤❤❤ for tuck. Another great video. Thank you
Congrats Pat 🎉
❤❤❤❤ Thank you for another video!! Always love them and look forward to the next!
Congrats to the winner 👍👍🙏
As always another awesome vid man. I love getting good ideas and sharing them eith people.
Peace N Love
Congratulation Pat
I use concrete blocks. I stack them tall enough to sit on. They have thermal mass, meaning they hold in heat to be released at night, and cold that is released during they day. Helps regulate the temperature of the soil.
CONGRATULATIONS
Good for you Paj ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for all the info❤🦋🙏🏻
congrats Paj and good gardening
❤❤❤❤Tuck❤❤❤
A heart for James too ❤😂 thank you for the great inspiration..this year will be our first year growing our garden.
It’s always great to watch ur food forest flourish. Thanks for sharing! ❤❤❤ Tuck!
Congratulations 😊
Congrats Padge! 😃❤👍
Another great video , thanks guys you’re great ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Super video James! Hope you don't get too cold down there tonight. We are expecting 24 degrees up here in Vermont 😢
Best overview of raised beds I've seen. Love Tuck ❤. Happy gardening.
Great video. Thanks for all the info. ❤❤❤
Thank for all of this helpful information. You are the best teacher. Tuck❤❤❤
Omgee....I have worked every day for the past week and half. I just came on here to see who won!! And saw my name...(yeah...spelled funny but pronounced page). Thank you for all the congratulations!!
I wanted to add...54 is my birthday...May 4th. I will be 55. 2 healed fractures in my spine along with Fibromyalgia. I am using grow bags on pallets this year to help alleviate some of the bending. I am soooo excited to win this awesome "real raised bed" and plan on building some with pallets as I collect them. I am so grateful and my little Henry (chiweenie) who will be in my modest garden with me this year!
