I know they wanted to establish the character, but it seems to me that they made him a little bit too rigid in always picking the starfleet officer human. That would have been interesting. ^^

Miss this show. In my opinion, it’s unarguably one of the top 10, if not top 5, best episodic series in TV history. I would personally put it at the number one spot.
Just when you think Worf's "Die" line is stellar writing Q comes out with the book retort. BTFO. I had to pause to laugh when I rewatched the series on Netflix.
At the very end of this episode Q is right in that our Q learned a little humility and even gesture of honor: better if he should die over the entire crew. He may not be heroic, but he decided his life was not worth the entire Enterprise when they attempted to help and defend him and even attempt to rescue him.
Probably my favorite episode of the series. There are so many good scenes and they were able to create an hour's worth of dramatic tension without sinking to melodrama.
Q was such a great impact character played brilliantly by De lancie its hard to believe he only appeared in 6? out of 181 episodes. But he was there at start and end bookends just like the original star wars. We should be very thankful like the magic of the 4 in ABBA, never bettered, this group of actors, scripts and design worked so well and we have it forever to watch and appreciate. RIP Gene Roddenberry..
They were going to have him appear in several episodes per season, but it never worked out that way. I suppose the reason is because dealing with Q makes the rest of the galaxy seem like an ant farm.
I love the scene where Q describes sleep. Such a small thing, but many (including myself) just never think how alien a concept it would be to a being that does require it or that they might be frightened by the experience. Great job by the writers here.
they are human, and most humans can't control their instincts. q is not human, he has full memory of his identify and has just said he could have chosen any species, as long as they were mortal. So, unless there is not one species in the entire universe to which your assertion does not apply, then we could infer this wasn't part of his sentence. Hence I can only conclude he is not allowed to end his sentence short, otherwise he'd just find himself in another timeline where his suicide did not work. The best he could do is being reckless, which, to such a powerful being.. must be exceeeeeedingly difficult. : ) Sure, this is all just rationalizations on top of some script whose author would never conceive of such backgrounds. Nothing to take real life lessons from.
@Joe He wants to return to the continuum, correct? But they've sentenced him to live as a mortal creature. So there's only 1 way to return. Unless they lift it, which was what ultimately happened, iirc.
"What'll it be, Q? A human on a 23rd century starship full of creatures that generally DESPISE you? Or locked in stone inside a children's cartoon as a creature more fitting your... chaotic nature?" "Tough choice... Which one gives me more screen time? If I'm going to lament my existence, I want everyone to know it."
"I could've been gone. No more 'me'..." - Q learned that this is the fundamental dilemma of our entire existence. Animals are, on the average, far happier than humans, because they do not have the necessary perception to imagine themselves in a state of non-being (until shortly before the end comes). But we spend the vast majority of our life pondering this fact and do all in our power to ignore it whenever possible.
I love how both riker and picard couldn't hide their smiles :D riker like "dude, you're right, but really?" and picards like "Well....he's got a point" lol also: 3:49 - one of the few times where q was honest and humble
I have good news and bad news for you. ... The good news: You are immortal. The bad news: There is absolutely nothing you could ever do about it. Too bad! 😆 - D
As far as I remember, Q never lie. He kept certain things secret for the sake of amusement. But He never really need to lie in the first place. He doesn't need to really. He's an omnipotent being. He doesn't need to lie His way to make Enterprise crew do his bidding. He just.......make it so.
One thing I wish they could have done more on is explain what the deal is between Q and Guinan. I know they despise each other, but would be nice if they indulged the audience on what the history is between those two.
Pretty sure they explained this in one of the episodes, Q being an omnipotent being indulged himself by messing around with various races throughout the Universe, often in not-so-good ways and Guinan's race was one of them.
My heart bleeds for you, Q. I mean, sure, there's moments I can't help feeling a little sorry for him, despite everything, but at the end of the day he's still an egotistical jerk.
Well the Q continum is a static hell. Nothing moves, changes, evolves. Q said it, he already tried everything that can be done when your will define reality. And the Q who wanted to die in Voyager said it too, without something new or unexpected your get bored to death. I do not envy him.
"Die." - One of Worf's best delivered lines.

I know they wanted to establish the character, but it seems to me that they made him a little bit too rigid in always picking the starfleet officer human. They should really have gone oput there and picked between a smörgåsbord of different entities, they could still have John De Lancie playing the part, just with different make up. That would have been interesting. ^^
Yes, but they probably didn't want to go through with the expense of the constant changes just for one character.
But less recognizable. By having him in one form, one actor with the same look, we recognize him instantly as soon as he appears.
MetallSwede I personally think Q never was kicked out, nor had a real civil war, Q the omnipotence's just so happens to put Quinn a lock up renegade in a comet that just happened to fly right in the path of voyager??????? I think it was all a test, a ruse, he even tested Sisko, but seeing how easily he could manipulate Sisko wasn't worth his time.
@@jdb2002 Jeffrey Combs did it, I don't see why de Lancie wouldn't be able to. In DS9 he was both a Vorta and a Ferengi, and in Enterprise he was an Andorian. People would have recognized de Lancie's voice instantly no matter what makeup he was wearing.
Humans are his favorite; he deeply admires Picard,+. "Dressing up" as human is his way of indulging and connecting with his favorite.
Required reading for Q as a new human. "Everybody Poops".
awesome !!
HAHAHAHA!!!
And he thought having to bathe was bad lol humans call that a luxury
@@Darth_Supaku No thanks. I stink like a perfumed French fart factory.
...the fellas at the freakin FCC!
"Mr Worf, throw him in the brig."
The most satisfying order Picard ever gave.
GrandSupremeDaddyo SAME this shit is so funny. I pause to laugh all through tng
Is it a reference I don't get?
Absolutely. It’s almost not fair because Worf’s line is so good, but that book insult is incredible
At the very end of this episode Q is right in that our Q learned a little humility and even gesture of honor: better if he should die over the entire crew.
He may not be heroic, but he decided his life was not worth the entire Enterprise when they attempted to help and defend him and even attempt to rescue him.
2:30 Q: This is not a moment I've been looking forward to.
Guinan: Hello Q, Welcome to The View.
The Qew
AudioAndroid talking to babs endlessly would make him lose the fear of dying
Not even Q, hell, not even the Borg Queen, deserves THAT fate!
oh what fresh new hell is this??
How does one test is someone is human? Call Guinan, she can test.
She made her POINT...didn't she??
Surprised Q did not pay her a visit after he got his powers back.
JamesJ30t He learned a little humility.
Remember how terrified he was of her in Q Who. Even with his powers she's dangerous to him somehow.
Kevin Gomolchak Did they ever explain why exactly? It has been so long that I can not remember.
Worf: "Die"
Lolololol Badass-meter = %300
It’s a good thing Q didn’t choose a Changeling when he chose mortal form. Imagine the Dominion with his knowledge in the Great Link.
The are biologically immortal…he couldn’t. They don’t die unless killed, same as jellyfish and lobsters
Q: What must I do to convince you people?
Worf: Die.
Garrak: Mr. Worf, you're no fun at all.
Worf: Good.
Best one-liners.
Q to Worf - ". . . having to bathe??"
Worf: - "TOO BAD!!"
Q:"What must I do to convince you people? "
Worf: "Die"
"You get used to it".. Human life in a nutshell.
Also human death, though.
Probably my favorite episode of the series. There are so many good scenes and they were able to create an hour's worth of dramatic tension without sinking to melodrama.
He was perfect as q .. his line delivery.. virtuoso
Q: What must I do to convince you people?!
Worf: Die.
Picard: LOL.
"Eat any good books lately?" is such a banger of an insult.
Guinan has that "you like krabby patties don't you squidward" smirk
John de Lancie is a great actor.
You just hurt Q's ego. He feels unappreciated, with his avatar gathering all the favors.
"Too bad!" 😂
You took the words right out of my mouth! 😆😆
I love the scene where Q describes sleep. Such a small thing, but many (including myself) just never think how alien a concept it would be to a being that does require it or that they might be frightened by the experience. Great job by the writers here.
Why is Q so afraid of dying and even losing consciousness? Won't his sentence be complete then?
Marcos Marin Why do not all locked up criminals commit suicide? Why do most locked up criminals fear dying?
they are human, and most humans can't control their instincts. q is not human, he has full memory of his identify and has just said he could have chosen any species, as long as they were mortal.
Sure, this is all just rationalizations on top of some script whose author would never conceive of such backgrounds. Nothing to take real life lessons from.
@@amcmr2003 Q does not want to die. Quinn however does
@Joe
He wants to return to the continuum, correct? But they've sentenced him to live as a mortal creature. So there's only 1 way to return. Unless they lift it, which was what ultimately happened, iirc.
Q doesn't want to die. Simple as that.
Arguably one of TNG's greatest episodes.
“Die.”
Still hilarious.
"What'll it be, Q? A human on a 23rd century starship full of creatures that generally DESPISE you? Or locked in stone inside a children's cartoon as a creature more fitting your... chaotic nature?"
"Tough choice...
“Hey, I’m claustrophobic! I don’t like it in here!” 😂 Q is so petty and I love it
Anyone else notice worf did the Picard manveuer at 1:07
The magic that happens when you give up resistance and ego and joyfully, acceptingly throw your spirit to the crew. 😆
Q: What must I do to convince you people?
Worf: DIE!
Q: Oh, VERY clever, Worf! Eat any good books lately?
🤣🤣
I love how both riker and picard couldn't hide their smiles :D riker like "dude, you're right, but really?" and picards like "Well....he's got a point" lol also: 3:49 - one of the few times where q was honest and humble
"Too bad."
I've always wanted to say that to an immortal.
I have good news and bad news for you. ...
The good news: You are immortal.
The bad news: There is absolutely nothing you could ever do about it.
Too bad! 😆 - D
"Q I'm not your father confessor" -Picard, the cold fish
Best lines:
“Die”
“Eat any good books lately “
“HAVING TO BATH”
Of all the conversations, the ones with Worf are the best hahahaha
A Klingon with a sense of humor. Never knew they existed.
Worf, throw him in the brig!!!
DELIGHTED!!!
(Worf's favorite order ever given)
Picard: Warf throw him in the brig
Worf: delighted captain
When Worf says "Die," and Riker smiles a lot and Picard smiles just a tiny bit... please inject that directly into my veins.
Best Q episode, ever. Only Q moment coming close to this episode was when he appeared in the tub with Janeway.
As far as I remember, Q never lie. He kept certain things secret for the sake of amusement. But He never really need to lie in the first place. He doesn't need to really. He's an omnipotent being. He doesn't need to lie His way to make Enterprise crew do his bidding. He just.......make it so.
Picard: throw him in the brig
Inner worf: been waiting my whole career to do this
The character of Q is fascinating to me. What an idea. Kudos to the writers.
Q: "I could've been killed, if it hadn't been for Data"
Picard: "quite right, I'll have to reprimand him for that later"
When Worf said "Die", I cracked up!
"Eat any good books lately?" Yeah. That got me laughing.
Guinan loved every second of that.
"You will walk or I will carry you"
I wish to be carried by you Worf
The look on Picard's and Riker's faces... after Worf's DIE comment... priceless.
0:24 that explains why he’s not a “dragon chimera”.
I love how Data doesn't react at all to Guinan stabbing Q. He looked more fascinated than anything else. Like "Well, that happened."
'you can't do this to me jean luc!' 'I CAN' 'he can'
I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Q more perfectly than john. He was perfect.
Still is.
I thoroughly enjoyed Riker's and Picard's (more subtle) reaction to Worf's sense of humor
This one scene is chockfull of so many great lines and meme-able moments.
It's the origin of the Picard Facepalm for fricks-sake!
@@TheRealDescartes It's interesting that Q also seems afraid of her or imtimidated by her.
3:18 "Why Picard would make her a member of the crew and not ME?"
Q working at 10 Forward, now that would be hilarious.
2:35 The horror sting music that gets played when Guinan enters
WORF: "DIE"
Q: "Eat any good books lately?"
My heart bleeds for you, Q.
I mean, sure, there's moments I can't help feeling a little sorry for him, despite everything, but at the end of the day he's still an egotistical jerk.
You should see him in Equestria. He has matured quite a bit. ... Relatively speaking. 😎 ... For his species. 😜
@@Dowlphin Equestria as in Discord from MLP, or is that an actual Star Trek episode?
@@coralroper6876 Haha, no, that's not an actual Star Trek episode.
@@Dowlphin Just checking
Well the Q continum is a static hell. Nothing moves, changes, evolves. Q said it, he already tried everything that can be done when your will define reality. And the Q who wanted to die in Voyager said it too, without something new or unexpected your get bored to death. I do not envy him.
I love Guinans “Well, well, well” walk.
Picard: You want to be treated as a Human?
Q: Yes.
Picard: Fine, Mr. Worf...
Q: Wait what!?
Space the final frontier, these are the 11-pm to 7-am voyages of the Enterprise's Night Crew and it's continuing mission is to PARTAYYYY!!
