Also very little understanding of the actual engineering that goes into the products just reading the spec sheet over 10 minutes. Very apparent when these guys started reviewing electric cars but not understanding anything about cars. I think its great to have channels showing and reviewing products. I think the "technical" aspect comes from the fact that they're reviewing mostly tech-products (phones, laptops etc). I know most of them don't get very technical in the details, but that would possibly result in very long videos, and also the majority of the audience wouldn't understand that anyway. But those more technical channels do exist too, they're just smaller with lesser views. Laws of the nature.

    when i was in prison i genuinely had many “ I wish I could google that right now” extremely frustrating moments lol. Very much like “I must know the answer, expeditiously!” Specifically once I was reading a book and read the name Zanzibar and really wanted to know what present-day Zanzibar was called… I had to wait hours until my Rec time to use my 15 min phone call, to call my mom and ask her to google it for me 😩 it was satisfying yet anticlimactic at the same time.

    The CAT VR set up reminds me of the CNC machines we had at my polytech.
    They weren't for students to use. That would be silly, they're too big and expensive for a student to break. Their real purpose was to show off how advanced and highly resourced the school was to media, politicians, donors, and of course the prospective students at an open day (I was fooled.) The open days were the only time I ever saw them run.

    • @wedgeoflemon
      @wedgeoflemon 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +52

      There's a massive machining marketing channel, Titans of CNC, that was built by an ex-con that supposedly learned in there. Very pull yourself up by the bootstraps coded. I think certain trades like that are a common push, because the pay vs skill gap is insane so they need to force people into it. I loved machining, but I was very naive to think it'd pay and I'd be able to make more than weapon components to bomb other countries.

    • @NoSkates
      @NoSkates 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +37

      @@wedgeoflemon I recognised that too, and pivoted my study towards Civil Engineering. I'm stuck behind a computer drawing sewer pipes in AutoCAD, but at least I can pay rent without "borrowing" money from the parents.

    A friend of mine works as a teacher in a british prison (not this one, but one under the same state). The efforts to educate/train prisoners to help them get jobs after release are sincere, and the jobs they're being prepped for are not just exploitative minimum-wage stuff either. Thankfully, this kind of rehabilitation is one area that a decade plus of ill-founded austerity has yet to strip away.
    However, on the other hand...
    Literally everyone she works with in there is clearly neurodivergent and would not have ended up imprisoned had they been better supported in school, rather than being written off because of their class and chucked into a harsh world undiagnosed and unsupported.
    EDIT: Originally incorrectly stated that UK prisoners don't do free work. I mean, they don't technically work for *free* but it is an exploitatively low wage. However - prisoners in the UK are required to either work or be in education, and *are paid for being in education as well*.

    Its so funny because I imagine a lot of these security measures exist to curb smuggling shit into the prison but the most common mule to smuggle shit is a prison guard who's able to circumvent all these fancy bullshit tech measures.
    A complete waste of money.

    The fact that they have the same type of door they use in zoos speaks to the amt of dehumanization that prisoners go through. It’s like, the moment u commit a felony, no matter how small or inconsequential (not that I think anyone deserves this type of dehumanization), they become a savage animal that can’t be trusted with themselves
