Interesting opening shot, Sodom and Gamorril Towers (as they were called in the early 70’s) lots of wild parties in those dorms. It’s nice to see the Band again! Been 17 years working abroad and little contact with my alma mater. There is no doubt that they are The Best Damn Band IN The Land! GO BUCKS!
Been watching these videos for years and they never get old! Question: is the solo sousaphone different every week? How do they chose who dots the script on field? Is it a departing senior or...?
Yes, the sousaphone player that dots the i is different each week. Only those that have played sousaphone for at least four years in the band are eligible.
Oh how I wish I'd been the one when the Michigan comes up. Many years ago, my Podiatrist did and What A Wow that was! He still plays in the Alumni Band every year!
@@moistpeanut5986 Oh, gotcha. Well this in particular is just a tradition of this specific school, but most schools have their own rituals and traditions that they pass down through the years. We do love our marching bands though lol. The styles really run the gamut. You should explore them, although you might find them all bizarre haha
it was originally a pre-practice music session to get the music engrained into their "skulls" but soon opened up to friends and family and turned into a little peprally or pre session for the game, wtv u wanna call it
I usually film with a GoPro or my iPhone, but for this game I switched to a DJI Pocket 2. I think I'll stick with this camera since it does a better job stabilizing the video indoors than my GoPro.
No matter how many of these I watch there’s always one thing that spoils the video…..one prick with a cellphone who just HAS to be in shot. All the damn time.
You can think the Junior High and high schools that young black women and men go to for not encouraging them to get into playing an instrument in a band. This is a college marching band, I hope you don't think that these individuals just stepped on campus and picked up an instrument and started playing it. You have to be good to get on this marching band and that means years of practice and performing in a marching band.
@@Cooliron24 Understood, although OSU did face allegations which included racial discrimination a few years ago. By the way, I know most black musicians choose to play for hbcu's.
@@jasond9826 it's not like that. I'm an Ohio native, and I love my state. We are so balanced in most places that it surprised me to see an imbalance in such a prominent place. It was just weird. The city, university, staff and teams are all like perfectly balanced without trying to. Do you get what I'm saying?
My goodness, amazingly boring. I guess, like my US grand children, hours of stupid practice and 95% never touch their instruments again once they finish school.
They're learning an instrument, learning camaraderie, discipline, and they seem to be having an awful lot of fun. What is your problem? Little bit of jealousy, eh?
What a fantastic group of individuals. Good luck in the future. Thanks mom & dad . And all the past music teachers who helped them along the way.
Loving these floor/field level vids from band members and friends/family!!! Keep em' coming! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That's our Best Damn Band In The Land. Nobody can't even get close they are the very best. Go Buckeyes.
The enthusiasm of the Americans is an emulation of great strengh when it's shared by an entire group.
By "enthusiasm" you mean the noise?
@@Freiya2011 planned focused enthusiasm ..as opposed to spontaneous enthusiasm yes ..noise

Ultimate in band nerd geekyness in all of its glory.
What a treat! Very talented band. Thanks for posting.
Just like being there! Thank you.
This video makes me want to learn how to play an instrument and go to Ohio State!
Hey, I can see me in this video! That was my first skull session;!!
My bad. Thought I had the Disney channel with those outfits, go Micky go.
This event was missing Mr. Bean, it would have been perfect.

As a non-American musician. This is such a bizarre part of American culture
Lol do you mean marching bands in general or this specific tradition?
@@you_can_call_me_T marching bands in general but specially this specific part of it.

Marching bands are incredibly entertaining and maybe it's just a cultural phenomenon you have not yet enjoyed.
Wow, you're not a musician if if you don't understand this ritual.
How on earth do you transport these instruments? Do they fold up or something? Whatever, must be a logistical challenge for someone...
Love watching this band but can you tell me what is meant by a "skull session"?
you ingrain the music into your skull before the game so you can focus on the visual marching
@@ratinfestation3964 had never heard of that but it makes sense!...than, you for responding!!

@@mulchsdad You may be pleased to know that it looks and sounds quite good in my opinion (and I'm really picky). Thanks for the reply

Some hat plumes are standing upright, others are lying flat. Any significance?
Sousaphone players push their plumes back to make room for their bells.
O hi i o it's off to the match we go ! More band men than spectators
Uniforms a bit OTT😮
