Oh my gods I L O V E D this video!!! Like, I don't care about Gloria at all- she seems like I would not enjoy her, but this video was, to quote Justin, "chef's kiss"! In your live deckbuilding and archetype videos, the focus is always on the "end product", which is super annoying if you're not already familiar with a certain character/build. You actually started with starting deck, you explained reasons, cards you considered, and alternatives for if someone doesn't have certain sets. And then describing every upgrade/removal- just, the whole video was everything I ever wanted! Obviously this wouldn't actually happen, but I'd love to see a video like this for every single character. While I don't personally care much about Gloria, it was a good choice since she doesn't have any other videos and currently no cycle with which to "guide" her deck construction. For characters that you should do, the characters with "funky" mechanics- or really, anyone where the limited card pool of just the core and their cycle was not enough to properly show off how they're actually supposed to play- Patrice, Safina, Joe, 50 card Mandy, Diana(?), etc.
Thanks for the comment! Because I'm looking at continuing this series on my own for the majority of it, I think it's entirely possible to get through every investigator.
First of all this is a great guide because of how you show your thinking and almost choices. Love to see it. For Gloria, I’d suggest that this deck is optimized for a clue role in two player. If you get to three or four, someone else is likely Harvey or Trish or Mandy, so your role shifts more to support and management. I that case, I strongly recommend upgrading scrying and skipping sixth sense, using the extra XP on Twila. With Twila down, scrying never runs out, and with scrying and Alyssa, you have more cards to find to gain control. You can still nab clues with your 5 book in down time. Bigger player count also makes her basement more useful because you cycle the mythic deck more. Which in turn makes scroll of secrets great as draw because you can discard a weakness. Hope you can find the time to do more of these!
If you are using the taboo list I would suggest using the 'scroll of secrets' instead of the 'scroll of prophecies'. Since the taboo makes it fast, you can get 3 'draws' for 1 action and 1 resource. If you later choose to upgrade it then you also get some synergy with Glorias ability. Without the taboo list I 100% agree that scroll of secrets is not worth it.
Really like this. One of the challenges I always have with the Starter Guides is missing out on other cycles cool cards for investigators. This fixes that!
This is so cool, this deck list looks pretty solid and a really fun way to play Gloria, the Justin way! I really look forward to the innsmouth investigators.
24:01 I don't understand why you would generally use Alyssa Graham in the upkeep phase. Using her at the end of the mythos/beginning of the investigation phases means that you have the same information, but can plan a full player cycle ahead for it. (Even if you're routinely drawing encounter cards during the investigation phase (Delve Too Deep, Drawn to the Flame, etc, thus 'ruining' the top of the encounter deck for the next mythos), with those things it'd be even *more* valuable to know what's coming well ahead of time.)
Truth be told, I use her at the upkeep phase mostly out of convenience due to keeping the camera on the players while we're recording. Using her at the end of the mythos phase definitely allows you to plan better, it's true, so I should've recommended that window instead. But... with that said, I generally use Gloria's ability less as something to plan ahead for and more as a mythos deck smoother, so that's why her ability falls into the upkeep phase by default for me unless I have something that wants to trigger (Drawn to the Flame, Under Surveillance, etc).
This would be a fantastic series if you can squeeze more into your busy schedule. I particularly like the alternative options because one of our players just started his collection and I don't always have good ideas for what he can use instead when net decking. Love the insights and the way the slides were organized.
Love this kind of content..thanks for your time making it. Including the upgrade path is key. This kind of content takes time, so do it when you feel inspired not when you feel you have to.
Would be neat to see your take on an improvised minds eye Patrice deck. It really feels like the way to go with her, once you get cornered/Recall the future her tests are really consistent. getting nothing left to lose is actually not terrible here as it helps cycle for your discard cards/jumpstarts your resources.
My Gloria deck used her Int to get clues and her Arcane Slots for sealing tokens and other utility stuff. I did the Stargazing thing with her too to try to game my weakness. Sword Cane made me feel invincible. Using my Int for clues let me use all those utility Arcane slot things I never get to play cause I need the slot for 6th Sense.
In my opinion having only two copies of clue grabbing spells is not enough to provide consistency. I'd replace Armageddon with RoS or C~. I'd even be so scared of not drawing them early that Arcane Initiate would be added to the deck. Cool tip: After creating a deck draw some starting hands using arkhamdb. Draw and draw and see if you are happy with what you are getting and what would be next cards to be drawn. It helps discovering weaknesses in deck list. That being said, was a pleasure to watch, thanks for the vid.
Very fair, I however have only ever ran two copies of clue getting spells in my Gloria decks because her high book score makes it so she can do fine without a clue getting spell if she hasn't drawn one yet. As I've said in this video, I am very much a low to the ground deck builder, so that's why I include the alternative slide and why comments like this are helpful.
@@PlayingBoardGames Sounds legit, although maybe it's me being worried so much about bad bag pulls, but her 4 on book (can't remember what this stat is called, ever) is only 'good', not great, but for the standard difficulty may suffice.
Yeah, with Alyssa in play, her book becomes 5 which will work for the majority of locations for standard. Hard or higher, I think more clue spells in the deck would be better because you need much more focus there.
Sacrifice is an absurd card draw card for Gloria. You almost certainly want Scrying (3) and Scroll of Secrets (which is great card draw, too), and once those are out of ammo you can turn them into cards or resources--whatever you need. In a pinch, you can eat other things with it, as well.
Yeah, this could easily replace scroll of prophecy for card draw, and it open up the hand slots for scroll of secrets which can be used to put weaker cards on the top abd discard the more dangerous ones.
I always like deck tech videos! I'd be interested to see more of the legendary Double double Sefina and well maintained mark decks. I'm not sure if you have those decklists on your channel or arkhamdb
Hopefully it wouldn't be too much work to showcase Gloria with a different secondary class, assuming it's straight swaps. Although it would be interesting to see how the mystic cards would change with a different secondary class.
Here, you can have a Holy Hand Grenade deck I made for Sister Mary doing TCU. It is hilarious and almost practical. arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/30795/the-holy-hand-grenade-of-antioch-1.0
I would like to see your crafting on Patrice Hathaway ft. Summoned Hound(1) and A Chance Encounter(2) combo. It seems very nice to me take that additional action without having to shuffle the Weakness into your deck at all. But I can't get to wrap out the deck, how would it work if that's your only Ally? Or maybe you need Charisma first? Is it feasible?
It’s definitely feasible and it’s VERY fun. It takes a little bit to get going because you need the cards to line up, but that’s a fun mini-game with mulligans. When you get it online, it feels amazing. Even getting it midway through a scenario is great because the Hound “buys back” the action spent to play ACE(2). You aggressively mulligan for Hound and get rid of ACE(2) if it shows up. You’ll eventually line it up during a scenario. I personally wouldn’t run it as your only ally, but you can run more expendable allies (ie, not stat-boosts) and it works! Concede that Hound is your primary ally and be ready to throw others away.
