  • Hello everyone! Thought I'd do another accommodation review video and this is one from my recent travels around Scotland. I've been in many Holiday Inn Express hotels before but there was something special about this one - the view!
    Have a look and let me know if you'd stay here and whether you think it's worth the money.
    Thanks as always guys for taking the time to watch my videos. All likes, comments, subs are massively appreciated and it really encourages me to make more content for you all to enjoy.
    Cheers for now.

    Ah great to see this pop up tonight! Aye, Dublin hotels are ridiculously expensive, the number of times I've found cheap flights and then realised I can't afford to stay over! Looks like a pretty good deal here though, I'll bear it in mind! Some hotels around the world charge £50 for the breakfast alone :D

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Steve, don’t know about you but I find Aberdeen hotels in-particular are better value than other Scottish cities for comparable dates. I gave up on Dublin in the end and, like I said, it was cheaper to get a flight + hotel somewhere else!

      Probably good value because of the amount so offshore traffic arriving and departing - Aberdeen is the only year-round UK destination from my local airport - Norwich - which is also very busy for the rigs, but not much else!

    I’ve increasingly been using Holiday Inn Express for a while over Premier Inn and now try my best to use them whenever I can. The hotels, staff and service are pretty consistently good. Sadly not the case with PI who also have some hotels that are pretty long in the tooth. I believe HIE are a class above. Great review as always.

    I have stayed in a couple of Holiday inn Express hotels. Last time booked 4 nights near ramsgate for £212 total. Premier inn close by was £210 for 4 nights so staying at the Holiday inn Express was a no brainer. Im mean breakfast for both of us for 4 days would have been £80 in the premier inn. Really great staff and good food during the stay. Enjoyed your video

    Enjoyed this, we’ve stayed at quite a few Holiday Inns, both the normal ones and the Express ones. We’ve found the breakfast is more extensive at the normal ones, but an advantage of the Expresses is that they actively encourage you to take some food for later which is quite rare! I think it’s because people might be in a hurry so they can just grab what they want and take it to eat elsewhere.

    Oh my god this is the hotel I use the most when I go offshore! I find it better value as you get the breakfast which you don’t get with Premier Inn. Plus you get points which you can use for future stays. Remember everything there is priced for the offshore worker. You would know if there issues with flights offshore as that hotel would be rammed full with oil workers at the bar!! The staff have always been superb in there, and believe me they put up with a lot in there

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Small world and all that Walter! Interesting comment this and presumably why there does seem to be lots more hotels around here than I would otherwise have expected. Yes very quiet when I was there and cheap considering it was also a Saturday night. But like you say, if it’s for the workers I can see why and it’s probably not the place you want to go to for a weekend break either.

    That's good value for that Holiday Inn Express particularly at an Airport. Just paid over £200 for 2 nights just outside of Bristol this weekend (yes bank hol weekend but still a bit steep). It was 50% to more than 100% more to stay in the city! Not worth the money my end I must say. Your hotel looked more modern than the one I was in. Mine needed a bit of a refresh. Was your breakfast hot? Mine didn't quite get to that standard but was acceptable none the less and it's good that it's included with the room.

    Wow. 54 quid including breakfast is fantastic value. We have a campervan and this year the nightly fees are £42 a night. This does NOT include breakfast. So if we buy items to cook for breakfast and the cost of gas or electricity for cooking it and our time spent over our stove this difference is negligible. If we camp but wander down to a local eatery and purchase a breakfast then I reckon it would more. So thanks for the review.
    On a general note thanks for your reviews on all your travel vlogs they are informative and entertaining. We particularly appreciate your time spent on long distance coach journeys ,getting a numb bum so we don't have too. Hero. Lol. Again appreciate your time effort and commitment 👍👍👍👍

      Hi Ed, well many thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I had this same quandary a few years back and had several camper vans. Honestly, they were just money pits really, the whole thing just got more and more expensive and I’m not surprised to hear the price of pitching up on campsites these days. I just thought I good get a room in a budget hotel for around the same price with a decent bed and, importantly, a good, private, shower. I’d never go back to camper vans now but, then again, for some people it’s a lifestyle choice and I wish them all the best on that. Cheers 😊👍

    Another good review but one with which I can supply a little bit of history. I worked for Holiday Inns back in the late 70's for what was then the CHIC division, which operated the first H I Hotels in the UK, about 6 properties then, within which Aberdeen was their first Scottish hotel location. H I was then, a new concept to the usual UK Hotel operational style, now recognisable everywhere across the UK.
    H I Aberdeen had its advantages for the rest of the group, as the company Inspectors always started at Aberdeen and by the time that "nit-picking team" arrived at my workplace at HI Heathrow, we were all well aware of what aspects they scored badly and what they rated highly; of course we always had perfect scores!!!
    Your rate of £50 for the day isn't bad but obviously driven by Head Office policies; there are some Hotels both chain and independently owned that may charge lower, but it is always dependent on location too.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Iain, I’m sure you can tell me that yep, location is a major factor in the pricing. I stayed in Mexico City last year with Holiday Inn - really cheap (I just used points for a whole week) but I’ve found this year, bargains with IHG are hard to come by. £50 though like I said, I’d quite happily stay here again especially with the breakfast included. 👍

      I do prefer the beds in a Premierinn, you know what you’re going to get every time. Actually somewhere I’d like to review is a Premierinn Hub - they have been excellent in my experience, especially the soundproofing. The only other thing I maybe should’ve mentioned is loyalty. You can get IHG points with Holiday Inn and there’s no loyalty with PI (as far as I’m aware). Cheers John 👍
