    If you notice the sentry post at Queens House. It's a silent post. So no slamming of boots or making noise. Ex guards

    Why don't 'parents' hold their childrens hands anymore ? Around 'on duty soldiers', especially on Royal duties, is not a kids play area. I am a UK Army veteran myself, who almost did 'Royal Duties' in the Summer of 1973. We were just training for it, when I was posted to West Germany.

    I was at the Tower of London just after 10 on Wednesday morning. I left about 1 and missed this. I will make sure I arrive later the next time I go.

    At one time you had to be 6 foot to join the Guards Regiments. Now, it looks like they have tiny children in uniform.

    I don't think it's tight the public comes right up to the space of the soldiers, especially on ceremonially duty. It doesnt happen abroad.

    It looks to me as if the little boy threw the Sergeant out of his routine. I wonder what would have happened should the little boy have approached the group of the Sergeant. How would he and his group have reacted? These soldiers are famous for their non-reaction when standing on guard outside… Their black shoes look very uncomfortable and stiff to me.

    Why has the Sgt's rifle not got its bayonet fitted ?

      In the guards, usually SNCO+ do not have their bayonet fixed. Unless your the Coldstream guards who have their lance corporals bayonets unfixed for reliefs.

      The Sergeant of The Guard has to accompany inspecting Officers plus entourage, ie The RSM, Drill Sgt, Sgt in Waiting etc in close knit, tight ranks. Think of it as ancient health and safety :)

      @@michaelprobert4014 That’s because he is carrying his sword in his right hand (the only way to carry) and thus swinging his left arm. The guardsmen have left shouldered rifles so are swinging their right arm.
