The producers took the wrong lessons from Angelina negotiating for the rice. The reason why it's iconic is because Angelina lacked the self awareness in thinking getting rice would help her win the game when it was just another example of Angelina's transparent game which everyone clocked and wouldn't vote for in the FTC.
One of my favorite aspects of Chris’ FTC performance is that right before FTC he told Twila he wasn’t gonna take shit from the jury and would stand his ground and that she should do the same. Eliza asked her question, to which Twila fought back and Chris IMMEDIATELY started ass kissing
Their friendship is really sweet. I genuinely love the post-merge of Cook Islands mostly for the really interesting social dynamics happening in and around that friendship.
I like how Todd says "oh no he's catching up" and that doesn't trigger Genre Bear to think "hey that kinda sounds like he thought I was pretty stupid until that point"
Such a shame Angelina low-balled her getting rice for the entire tribe. It could have got her some extra jury votes if she decided to bring it up at any round within the game.
I feel like Wendell’s speech before giving Laurel his immunity idol at the final five of Ghost Island should be an honourable mention given Laurel became the 11th member of the jury and cast the winning vote for him.
I really hope she make final 3 so we can watch the jury rip her to shreds 😂😂😂 she will take credit for literally every single move of the season and think she’s Sandra plus Kim Spradlin plus Parvati
TBF Rick saw he had no adjency and knew it. So he did the only thing he could do. Be a true survivor.... with pazaz. Which is kinda genius, sadly it didn't quite work out. You walk the tight rope of failing one time and everyone gets rid of you cause you obviously have become a threat. So good on him for realizing he had only one route to victory, through sheer showmanship, confidence and immunities. Just his luck/skill ran out too early.
I honestly never considered Yule giving Penner his hat that bad of pandering. He just put it on his seat before the jury even came in. If Jeff hadn’t brought it up, Penner never would’ve known who gave him the hat
Wait! Angelina got rice for the tribe?!? How did we not know this?! 🤦🏻♀️ I do love how Davey calls her out that telling people all the time about her selfless act, makes it NOT selfless.
Never thought about it before but do you thing Rick Devins level of flashiness helped that other guy win since he did such a good job of lowering the accomplishments of the other FTC finalists?
I don’t get why Angelina was so hated by the jury. She got rice for the entire tribe and was totally selfless about it afterwards as Davie stated. That’s all in addition to her underrated and understated move of climbing 100 feet up a ladder to get an idol and wholesomely giving “idols” to her enemies. I want a petition for Luke to add Angelina to the list of heroic people doing heroic things alongside Candice.
i think only heroes are eligible for that. which angelina wasn't. she might've done one heroic thing, but she only did it to score points with the jury. and it doesn't excuse how she played the majority of the game. if someone like russell did something heroic, would you call him a hero? no you wouldn't
Speaking of Yul and Jonathan, the biggest reason he cut him at the final 7 was because Adam straight up told Yul that he would never vote for him to win if he didn't cut Jonathan that round. Lo and behold Yul did, and Adam gave Yul a decisive vote.
Angelina's negotiating reminds me of a creed song 'myyyy sack-of-rice' *edit for context* There was somewhat successful song in early 2000s by Creed called 'My sacrifice' and it's funny bc Angelina thinks she sacrificed for the team to get the sack of rice.
Competing over who is first in the comments is like competing over who gets to vote first...it doesnt matter...Jeff is going to read the votes in the order he wishes LOL
I wonder if Chris ever considered finishing his final tribal with a digestible rhyme. Something like “If the betrayal stings, don’t clip my wings” I don’t know, is still a relevant reference
I literally finished watching Vanuatu today. I had no doubts that Chris is going to be number one. Still waiting for him to get an Oscar for this performance
Angelina’s negotiation always makes me cringe so hard - not for the pandering, but for the fact that she offered SO much when she almost certainly could’ve just sat out from the challenge. Love her but that was sooo painful 😭
As over the top as Devens was with the pandering I do think the fact that he was stuck with the rest of the EOE folk for so long is what made him the fave despite his weak gameplay is what gave him the popularity. I mean Chris pops up for the last 4 days and wins based on that alone. Think it would have been super difficult for anyone not voted out to win that mess with such a large advantage the returnee has with the jury
Imagine if in Survivor 50, there's a final 3 with Venus, Courtney Yates, and Angelina. Courtney: Did you win immunity? Angelina: No, but I got our whole tribe rice. Courtney: Yeah, but now 'm 43 now and still winning immunity. Did you win immunity, though? Angelina: No, but I got us more rice than anyone was ever given before in the history of the show. Venus: Please, both of y'all ain't got nothing on me. I'm the one who made every big move made this season.
A quick and probably forgotten moment: Carl saying “bing!” After idol nullifying Dan out. He tried to take credit for the blindside, which just made him a bigger target. I’m thinking dude save that piece of parchment and take credit at final 3, what are you doing
Ok our negotiations professor at Yale was world class lol. He may be the first person you wanna vote off the island but he’s actually a pretty big deal around there
@@IdoledOut This cool to have you comment on my comment! I don’t know if you’ve ever done this, but I do have an idea for a video the best finale tribal council performance that resulted in a loss! Have you ever made that video?
I don’t really feel like that was jury pandering at all. I felt like that was her talking about something that was important and a real issue that women face today in the real world.
Huh, first time I heard about Angelina sacrificing so that the tribe would get rice. Shocking! What are you going to tell me next, that somebody voted out her mother at tribal?
Rick Devins not having agency in the game is more of a condemnation of everyone else's game around him just trying to get by with the modern Survivor strategy of voting people off who are good at things and hoping that they are the least worst choice at FTC.
Was she really pretending? I feel like her talking about women’s rights was something outside of the game, especially considering the jury up to that point had more men than women (not saying men don’t care about women’s rights either but they’re not going to care as much while playing a game of survivor).
Interestingly, Angelina didn't get a single jury vote. The jury hated her, didn't respect her game apparently. I thought she played a respectable game.
There was this guy in the french survivor that won because he gave his reward (one Chocolate Pear) to everyone else to share... While the other finalist... stole them all 10 bananas 😂🍌 That's the french bananagate
Saying Devins was pandering by winning immunity and playing idols is such a crazy accusation to make. What did you want him to do, let them vote him out without fighting? He did what he needed to do to get further in the game and he’s just got a lot of riz so he was funny sooooooo idk what y’all are saying right now
Wait did Angelina get them rice??? I don't remember that. That's like all of Cierra's blood vs. water game like she didn't get purpled but I can't remember anything iconic those two girls did.
I really disagree with Devens and Yul as pandering. Devens was being funny and entertaining. As for Yul, I don't think giving Penner his hat back was to gain his vote although, as he stated it could have impacted that. Yul made deals with others to get their votes like voting out Penner to get Adam's vote. I view it as just good jury management. I guess what's considered pandering is subjective.
Angelina's insistence on the rice is annoying because I think we've all known someone who does the tactic of "Doing something for you, so you'll repay them later. Instead of it coming off as a good action made for the tribe and everyone stomachs, she quickly showboats constantly. It's fine to remember it for final tribal, but to bring it up so much really shows it was for the sake getting a favour later, or she is just one of those people who seems think small things are big things and brags about it (Or to show off her 'top tier negotiation skills' that she got from a class) It also left a mark on the franchise leading to sacrificing your chance at immunity for rice. Glad to see nobody stood for it the recent season. maybe that will make the producers think twice.(Though admittedly Jeff stabbing the bag that one time was funny)
The producers took the wrong lessons from Angelina negotiating for the rice. Yeah, you just have to know who you're talking to and Jean-Robert had the biggest ego of anyone, so he stroked it, that's all it took to get his vote.
