I’m a crappie guy but I’ve been playing around with bucktail. The creativity and time you put into these dudes is unmatched! WE NEED MORE BUCKTAIL VIDEOS!!
That’ll work for sure!! I tie the same head also use the flathead jig mold too. It isn’t too big either. I’ll be throwing 3/4 and 1 ounce flathead jigs for walleye here on the Mississippi this week. One thing you will want though is a treble hook stinger off the back. A size 10 or 12 is what I use. A lot of time they will swipe or short strike the jigs, and the stinger will up your catch rate tremendously. I always just let the current, wind and depth dictate what size jig I need. Also don’t be shy with hook size either. 12 inch walleye will engulf a 3/4 ounce with a 4/0 hook all the time.
Yes, the eyes say yum yum! The peacock herl def finished it off very well, Nice job. FTR, I might mention - - I realize Sally Hansen is to finger nail polish that Band Aid to bandages. But, Sally’s HAN is typically prox $3.5 for .47 oz. whereas Dollar Tree’s Diamond Dry .44 oz or LA Colors Rapid Dry Topcoat .47 oz are both only $1.25. I’ve tested both latter brands seeing no difference in quality.
Oh yeah it'll catch. A little bright orange on the head belly would only help. They see green and orange best and they love that purple. We catch plenty in Spring on Erie with purple hair jigs with big black/white eyes. Jigs with no eyes get hit less.
Great tie and vid....loved listening to you think it through. That was a terrific addition. Maybe we should see more from The Tying Lab. ;) oh, and those lateral feathers.....a definite NO. 👍
Perhaps a live stream from the lab sometime - you guys can help me develop it as we go, that sounds like a blast! Thanks Rob! Glad you agree about the lateral feathers too 👊👊.
Walleye or not, that is outstanding!!! 👏🏻 Not a walleye expert but I’ve definitely caught em and I’d for sure try that in the northern lakes for the bigger Eyes… IF you could keep the Northerns off of it long enough! Down here, I see it as a striper magnet too! Like how u shared the decisions and turning points with us along the way… it seems often, the best ones are build-as-u-go, IMO anyway. Peacock was definitely a great addition! Love it in the tank!! 🥇
Thanks man! Was a pleasure walking through the decisions on camera. It’s cool when rough sketches develop and the end result turn out nice. Very satisfying! Those same tailwaters are also home to hybrids/wipers… wouldn’t hurt my feelings if one of them took a shot, in the event the walleyes pass. LOL!
Adam that jig is awesome. I will say speaking from experience that those feathers make the jig they will not last long due to the teeth on a walleye or sauger. I have tied many walleye/sauger jigs and when you factor in the cost of those feathers to me it isn't worth it. After testing my jigs in a tank and actual field testing them, buck tail is hard to beat. Also, faux buck tail is really good because it is tough as nails and will hold up to short strikes and those teeth! Other then that, that jig is a master piece. Well done.
Typical walleye jigs size depends on water depth and current. Rarely do I go above 3/8oz, some deeper waters might go up to a 1/2oz out of necessity. Standard is 1/8oz in spring to keep a slow moving bait, then moving on to 3/16 or 1/4oz. I almost strictly fish Walleye and Sauger in my area of Wi.
That would definitely crack some walleye in the Detroit river. I tie a similar pattern but not as fancy because it’s very common to snag and break the jig off. Hair, flash and a stinger tied in is plenty. Thanks for sharing 😃🎣🐟
No walleye in my neck of the woods either but you made an excellent jig. I mostly Bass fish but I could see a Red Fish smack that down here. You make wrapping an art form.
Gday Adam.. Bloody nice colour pattern would wreak havoc on a fish we have here in Australia named Barramundi...They are now stocking lakes in Florida with Barramundi.. Anyway that jig would definitely recommend action amonst those psychotic Barramundi...regards B.J.SCustom Baits Australia.
I only tie 1 style of walleye jig but it isn't like this. What you did was awesome!!!!! I love the hackle tail but thoes bugger packs aren't cheap, well done as always!!!!
Yup, this was… we’ll say… unconventional :). For some reason I thought those Bugger packs were like $10 each but looking back that wasn’t the case… more like $25. Super awesome feathers though! I think my two packages were Christmas presents so I didn’t feel it quite so bad, LOL! Thanks, as always, Dan! And great job on JigSquad the other night, it was a pleasure watching the show!
Curious as to your thinking regarding the paint pattern on the jig head. Fish generally are counter-shaded - being darker on their backs than their bellies. Yet the head in the video is contrary to this. Reason(s) for your choice?
A good observation, thanks! Honestly, no other reason besides the fact I wanted a predominantly chartreuse head and purple on the top may have run the risk of covering too much. To your point, this one could have been accomplished without the purple, or with the purple on top. Thanks for watching!
Don't know bout walleye but. Think it will work on spotted bass in Alabama. Don't think we have any walleye here or at least not that I know of. Have a great day
Hard to beat this one, the Ultra Minnow Head. I was always a sucker for round heads as well, so the Freestyle is another great choice. For smaller stuff, like 1/8-1/16 the Walleye Head is cool too!

Glad you enjoyed it man!
Great jig, love the purple and chartreuse color combination!! Nice profile!! That dog will hunt!! Thanks for sharing Adam!!
Thanks James! Glad you liked it man!
I just started tying myself to add to my plastics....bucktails....hair jigs.....and some hollow fleye tying......cool video man
Nice - all kinds of goodies to play with! Thx for the feedback!
Yeah, that'll work for sure Adam. My past experience walleye fishing has taught me they do like those really bright colors, another great build !!
Thanks Robert! I sure hope you’re right!

Thanks Lazur! Good call on the stinger for sure. Appreciate the feedback man!
I’am so glad you no on the two feathers on the side. Color pattern is awesome. Nice tie Adam and yes that will catch fish
Thanks Rich! I figured I’d have some “Amens” out there when I passed on the flank feathers. Glad you liked it!
I really enjoy how particular you are with your work. It shows in the finished result 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks man! I can be pretty anal, but in baitmaking I guess that's a good thing :)

Love it! I know so little about walleye, I’ll keep the orange in mind! Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Hell yea dude! Love it.. cool shout of for Spencer at river certified. Dude loves the Walters!
Yes he does! Spencer’s a stick for sure… can catch and cook with the best of em! Thanks for watching!

I quit tying feathers on my saltwater bucktails, they're great for stripers, they hold up fairly well but you get one bluefish and it's over
I really like it . Going to make me a few of those up tonight as soon as I get home from work .
Awesome, hope they work out well for you!!

Nice, thanks Patrick!
only fish walleye. just started to tie my own bucktails definitely putting this one in my arsenal..
Awesome to hear! Hope it catches you a boat-full!
Need more of these please!
Glad you dig it, thanks Jonny!
Nice color pattern, especially with the feathers.
Thanks man! They certainly made it didn’t they!? Appreciate the feedback man!
Adam am starting to go thru your Playlist and this could be addictive all stick with my original 36 👍
@@samuelschult985 hope you enjoy!!
I think it looks amazing!
Thx man!!

My pleasure Jack!

I appreciate that man, thanks!! I’ll take whatever bites!
I like it. Proven colors for my area. It will work.
Sweet, glad to hear it - Thanks Mark!
I like it. It’s not too big for walleye. I tie 3/4, and 1 oz., big bulky walleye jigs for Lake Erie. I think the stripers would eat it also! 👍👍
Sweet! Those same tailwaters have wipers as well - be nice to find one of them! Thx man!
Nice work and great pattern man! I am a walleye guy and I will be giving this one a go...
Richard from Kansas;)
Sweet, great to hear Richard! Appreciate the feedback my friend!
Walleye is one of our #1 targeted fish here in PA
Nice Jesse, awesome fish to chase!
Great job
Thank ya sir!
Love your work man learned about you on # jigsquad great work
Thanks man! Welcome to the channel!

Oooosh… barramundi… man, I would LOVE to catch one of those someday. Glad you liked build, and thanks for the kind words man!

brilliant !!!
Thanks man! That was a fun one! Love the ultra minnow profile with bucktail - definitely a match made in heaven!!
Hey Adam, if you ever find your way out in Colorado let me know. I’ll give you some spots for walleye.
Deal!
That's neat I Wana try this but don't know where to start
A vise, jig head, some thread, and your material of choice! After that you're just adding to the arsenal!
Curious as to your thinking regarding the paint pattern on the jig head. Fish generally are counter-shaded - being darker on their backs than their bellies. Yet the head in the video is contrary to this. Reason(s) for your choice?

Spotted bass could be ok too, LOL! Thanks man, appreciate you watching!
Just a thought, I finsh off the tying off thread in red, so it looks wounded when bouncing. Just me.
I dig that too, for sure! Didn’t do it here, but I love it on a lot of patterns! 👍👍
Now that I’ve seen the entire video and the test tank part, I’m positive that will catch a pike in a couple reservoirs near me.
Yup, I could see that too! Definite pike bait!
Parabéns ótimo trabalho!!
Obrigado meu amigo!
What is your favorite jig head mold for tying a casting Buck tail jig?

👍💯👏👏👏
Thank ya much!
Love your video's, but I closed my facebook page a couple of years ago! And that is why I'm not in your group.
Aaahhh, yeah - I get that! Lot of folks ditched FB. All the same, appreciate you watching as always!!
I just have one question…. What’s a walleye!? 🤣🤣🤣 don’t have those down here in Louisiana! 🤣🤣🤣
A mythical creature to be sure… said to have sharp teeth and delicious meat!
It should work well but could catch more than just walleyes..
Thanks man!! Appreciate that!
April Oh yah this is a year ago. I’m catching up lol
Yup, an oldie but a goodie!
That will catch fish.
Glad ya think so, thx!!
I'd eat it and I'm not even a fish
I’d call that a win!! Thx Steve!
What is your favorite jig head mold for tying a casting Buck tail jig?
Looks like YT duped this one, replied to the first!
